The attack came so suddenly that when the first scream sounded from the track, all attempts at redemption were too late.
The Regent looked down at the flames, wondering how metal could burn.
He knew that the building itself would not catch fire, but that there would be combustible materials inside.
Still, it was eerie to watch smoke and flames pouring out of the cracks in the wall that surrounded him.
The wind could not carry away all the smoke, and a large amount of smoke clouds blocked the sky around the observation tower, allowing him to only see the nearest building.
“Do we know how much of the city is burning?”
he asked the guard at the table.
"There are only a few messages that indicate we have alerted the vast majority of people to go to their shelters."
"very good."
The regent nodded.
"very good."
It's worth it anyway, if the attackers are here to kill them, hiding in an underground shelter is no better than being herded together like cattle and slaughtered.
But it reduces chaos on the streets, and to some extent things move forward.
"Precautionary list one, sir."
Another guard said. He was wearing the same normal uniform as the former, and had a datapad tucked into his glove.
The regent glanced at the data board. The green lights of all shelters were locked.
"Very well. If the predators have made a condition, I hope they will inform me the moment those words come out of their mouths. Where is the bishop?"
Before the twelve guards present could respond, the bishop walked in.
"My lord, the barn to the west is on fire."
The regent closed his eyes and said nothing.
"Rand landed in the West End and began unloading heretics, monsters, machines and... god knows what else. They even started digging huge pits to drop the bodies of our people into."
"Did we send messages to other settlements?"
The bishop nodded.
"The warning news from Breathing City and Sanctuary City has just come."
He paused and looked at the domed glass wall of the tower with bloodshot eyes.
"Two cities are not going to have a better chance of defense than we do."
The Regent sighed.
"Where are the defense forces?"
"Some are gathering, others are heading to the shelter where their families are, and the watchers are organizing an evacuation to the shelter. Do we want them to evacuate their posts?"
"Not yet, send a message to the streets. After the shelter is locked, the guards and troops must gather at the designated fortress. We must fight back."
He looked at the two guards and cleared his throat.
"Keeping this in mind, could you give me a weapon, young man?"
The guard blinked.
"My...sir?"
"That's a nice pistol, thank you."
"Do you know how to fire a weapon, my lord?"
The regent forced a smile.
"I know. Now, Bishop, I need you to go to...Bishop?"
The bishop raised a trembling hand and pointed over the regent's shoulder.
Everyone in the room turned to see a giant vulture emerging from the smoke.
The dome that could have blocked all sound now had the gunship's engine flashing with a brown halo and sending out a huge amount of echo into the thickened glass.
They watched it climb, a winged ghost in the mist, until it hovered over the top, fire washing across the dome's surface like water, beautiful from below.
Then, the shocked regent watched as the gunboat's beak opened, forming a slope in the air, and two figures descended from the air.
The golden light in the hand of one of them struck a point with a savage attack, shattering the glass of the dome.
In the blink of an eye, the giant metal boot smashed a crack in the dome when it landed. The upper glass revealed lightning-like cracks, and razor-like diamonds were instantly scattered in the center of the room.
With the roar of the gunship's engine, the transparent barrier can no longer keep the room quiet.
The two people who jumped down fell for more than twenty meters before landing, and the sound of landing made the whole room tremble.
For a moment, they knelt in the dent they had made. Half-crouching in the crater, they looked slightly shorter, and the glass hailed against their armor, which was very pleasant.
Then they got up.
One person was carrying an oversized chain sword, and the other was holding a flash of golden light.
The two of them walked wildly, like wandering beasts, towards the long table, with every step erupting with the echo of ceramic steel pressing against steel.
The regent's two guards immediately opened fire.
Almost at the same moment, two armored warriors threw their weapons.
The one who died first had his chest pierced by a sword, and the one who died later had his head smashed into his chest by a chainsword, the activated saw teeth tearing at his flesh.
The shreds of flesh and blood spurted out behind the regent and bishop, and no one dared to touch them.
The regent pursed his lips and watched the two approaching.
"Why?"
he asked hissingly.
"Why are you here?"
"Wrong question."
Ciel answered with a laugh.
"We don't owe you any answers."
Talos told the old man.
The Regent raised his borrowed pistol and looked down the barrel.
The warriors were still coming toward them, and the bishop beside him crossed his fingers, trying to calm their trembling.
"The Emperor's blessing."
The bishop kept whispering.
"If he can."
Talos could barely contain his laughter.
"He shouldn't have sent you into this world in the first place."
Charles suddenly hesitated.
"brother."
He ignored the old man holding the gun.
"I got a signal from orbit that something wasn't right."
Talos turned to his brother.
"I heard it too, Satimus, drive the Black to the east corner of the spire, we need to return to the void immediately."
"As you command, my lord."
A crisp reply sounded, and a moment later the gunboat circled outside the dome, opening its hook-like beak like an eagle.
"The Emperor's blessing."
The Bishop whispered again, beginning to tremble.
Talos turned to the mortal.
"Okay, I admit that I was wrong. Under very accidental circumstances, he did protect you."
As the two Night Lords ran, they quickly recovered their weapons from the dead bodies, grabbed their own bolt guns and fired at the thickened glass.
Their armor crashed through the damaged barrier and disappeared in smoke.
The Regent watched their silhouettes disappear into the shadows within the gunship, not and could not blink.
"The Emperor's blessing."
The bishop said this for the third time, shocked by the shocking truth of these auspicious words.
Talos in the cabin held his head with his hands, pain now throbbing back and forth, squeezing his eyes outward.
Around him, the First Talon readied their weapons, standing upright and holding onto the handles as the gunship climbed back into the sky.
"What's on the track?"
Ciel asked confused.
"Is it the Imperial Navy?"
Selion asked with some unconfidence.
"No."
Talos suddenly raised his head and said with a hateful voice:
"The Cursed Echo has been ganged up on. It is the evil dog of the Corpse Emperor and the Origin Chapter."
