This is because in the late Ming Dynasty, after Zhang Xianzhong invaded Yucheng, he killed many people and left nine out of ten houses empty. There is a legend that "thousands of households are filled with ghosts singing".
There were too many dead bodies at that time to be disposed of, so they had to be buried directly on the hillside.
The entire Qixing Gang is filled with dense tombs, scattered straw mats, damaged thin-skinned coffins, and exposed rotting corpses...
It can be described as a hell on earth, the tragedy is horrific!
As a result, Qixinggang became a famous large-scale "mass grave" in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
There is a legend in the folk proverbs of Lao Chongqing that "Qixinggang is haunted", but it actually began to spread two to three hundred years ago.
So even in the Qing Dynasty, people in Chongqing would still habitually throw some ownerless corpses into Qixinggang...
Later, in the early years of the Republic of China, a certain mayor had to carry out extensive construction work around Qixinggang in order to open up a new urban area and build a main road in the Central District - which is today's Zhongshan 1st Road to Zhongshan 4th Road in Yuzhong District!
This requires the entire grave to be relocated.
As a result, the construction team dug up countless old bones nearby.
Especially on the hillside, there are layers of bones.
The rumor that "Qixinggang is haunted" was mentioned again, and for a while, the nearby residents were extremely frightened.
It was also a coincidence that several powerful monks happened to be passing through Yucheng.
Under their advice and guidance, a Bodhi Vajra Pagoda was built near Qixinggang!
It is used to save the undead and wild ghosts of the past generations, suppress evil and drive away disasters, and at the same time, it can also ward off evil and eliminate disasters for the living and achieve eternal peace.
Although in the following decades, when different upper-level officials asked the media to publicize it to ordinary people, they all said that this was feudal superstition and that there were no ghosts at all.
As for the construction of Bodhi Pagoda, it is just a kind of spiritual comfort and custom culture.
But in fact, for hundreds of years, the entire circle of practitioners in Yucheng and the southwest region has known that this place is indeed frighteningly heavy in yin energy!
But in most cases in ancient times, the living and the dead went their own way and lived in peace.
The massive construction project in the early years of the Republic of China, in addition to bringing new development to the city, may indeed have been destructive and led to some adverse consequences!
