The monk was speechless by his rebuke, his face flushed, and he couldn't speak properly. He stammered out a sentence and said: "You, you, you are so arrogant! A poor monk can't see the Tathagata or become a Buddha. You How can this sloppy Taoist become a Buddha if his whole body is dirty and smells bad?"
In a moment of impatience, he spoke indiscriminately, completely forgetting that Taoist practice is not for the purpose of becoming a Buddha.
Ye Wumian secretly said: "If a sloppy Taoist refutes this, how will this monk respond? I'm afraid he will be ashamed and embarrassed."
Unexpectedly, the sloppy Taoist didn't say that. He just smiled and said: "What's wrong with sloppy? Huineng, the sixth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, is still just a barbarian!" The "Tan Sutra" records that Hongren asked him: "You are from Lingnan." , and it is a scorpion, how can it be worthy of becoming a Buddha?" As a result, Huineng said: "Although people have north and south, Buddha nature has no north and south. The body of a scorpion is different from that of a monk, what is the difference in Buddha nature?"
From this point of view, I can also say that although people are sloppy and clean, the Buddha nature is not sloppy and clean. How come I, a sloppy person, cannot become a Buddha? As the saying goes, 'The relics are empty and empty, neither born nor destroyed, neither dirty nor pure, neither increasing nor decreasing. 'Since you are a monk, have you ever read this sentence in the Heart Sutra? "
"Buddha has no definite form."
As soon as these words came out, it was almost fatal. The monk was speechless and was stunned for a long time.
Ye Wumian looked at the slovenly Taoist, then at the monk, and saw that both of them looked strange, with a sense of being out of the world, but he didn't know who they were, and why they were here, so that he was lucky enough to be able to listen. Want this wonderful debate?
Of these two people, one is a monk, but his speech is focused on excerpts from the "Tao Te Ching" and advises people not to recite Buddhist scriptures; the other is a Taoist priest, who opens his mouth to "Vajra" and closes his mouth to "Altar", and seems to read the "Heart Sutra" at random.
Not to mention the sleepless nights, other people in the tavern had never seen this kind of cross-border debate on both sides.
While he was praising me all night long, the monk's face gradually became violent. His hands no longer clasped together, but formed palm prints. He looked at the slovenly Taoist and said, "You chant sutras and insult my Buddha. This poor monk can't bear it." , can only be saved by you. Look at the palm!"
Ye Wumian didn't recognize the palm strike, but some guests in the tavern recognized it and said: "It turns out to be a method passed down by Master Shenxiu of the Northern Sect of Zen. This palm is called 'Body is a Bodhi Tree'. But the details are It’s a little weird, a little different from my impression!”
The sloppy Taoist didn't dare to neglect the punch and palm, and hurriedly spat out the beef in his mouth to avoid the slap.
The wind from his palm blew up his two tentacles, which was especially fun.
The sloppy Taoist said angrily: "You bird monk, how dare you directly hit your Taoist master!"
There was no hesitation in his hand, and he discharged his palm diagonally to fight the monk. For a moment, no one could figure out what this palm was.
The monk suddenly made a move, gained the upper hand, and regained the place where he had failed in the debate. His face finally looked better, and he said with a sarcastic look: "In the past, Huangbo was lucky in Haichangyuan. Even Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty dared to do so." Beat me, today a poor monk beats you, a scornful Taoist who is wagging his lips and bulging his tongue, why can't he beat you?"
The monk acted like there was no one around, and in this tavern, you punched me and I slapped you, until the table overturned and the chairs overturned, the vegetable soup spilled, and the wine and meat fell to the floor. What a great fight!
Some of the captains in Jinyi drew their swords and shouted: "Niao Monk and Niao Dao dare to run wild here. Do you think they have any of my emperor's soldiers in their eyes? Go and fight outside!"
The sloppy Taoist listened to the advice. He grabbed the monk's hand and said, "Bald donkey, let's give the officials some face. How about we go outside and fight!"
Without waiting for the other party to reply, the sloppy Taoist greased the soles of his feet, and with a beautiful movement, he rushed out of the firewood gate and threw himself into the cold wind, as if he was running away.
The monk said angrily: "You rotten Taoist, if you can't beat me, just run away! You run very fast, and you have the guts to stop me!"
The zhenqi around him fluctuated and spread like water ripples. The monk also made a gust of wind and raised his body skills to chase after him, leaving only a room full of stunned drinkers.
These two outsiders should have devoted themselves to serving the Buddha and Taoist priests in temples and palaces, and each should have been a peaceful layman who had nothing to do with the world. They should not have such verbal disputes.
Just because of a disagreement, it turned into a fight of fists and kicked, breaking many things. Then, with the help of Colonel Jinyi's words, he got off the hill and ran out the door, leaving a mess on the ground and a few sighing boys, without paying even half a penny for the damage.
I even heard from the shopkeeper that the monk’s money for plain noodles and wine had not yet been settled!
By comparison, the rest of the lay people in the tavern seemed more like cultivators than these two. Under Jin Yiwei's lustful power, they all ate honestly and there was no lawsuit.
Among monks, Taoists and lay people, who is wise and who is despicable? Momentarily dazed.
Zhou Xian threw a piece of broken silver to the shopkeeper and said, "Take it, I'll wipe the butts of these two people."
The shopkeeper took the money and almost couldn't believe it. After I came back to my senses, I was extremely grateful.
He has seen a lot of bad guys on the ground. Among them, there are very few who are willing to pay for meals; the one who pays for others and also helps others to make up for the money is the only one who can't be found even with a lantern.
He was so flattered that he was about to kneel down to Zhou Xian on the spot, but was scolded by Zhou Xian, who made him retreat happily.
Zhou Xian sneered and commented on the monk: "This bald donkey can't stand up to others, so he fights and loses the dignity of a monk! Sure enough, what Su Dongpo said when he scolded the monk is right: If you are not poisonous, you will not be bald; if you are not bald, you will not be poisonous; if you turn poisonous, you will turn bald. Turn bald and turn poisonous.”
Ye Wumian had another idea: Although the Taoist was very aggressive and his refutations left people speechless, the monk adhered to his spiritual practice and criticized angrily, but it was not wrong.
As for hitting people, that's just a Buddhist method of "breaking people's attachments." There are countless eminent monks who beat people in history, at least there are a lot of them. For example, the monk mentioned Huang Bo's good luck, and Tokuyama Xuanjian and so on.
It is also worth mentioning that the term "knock on the head" comes from the method used by Buddhists to enlighten their disciples, and it literally means hitting the head with a stick.
The Buddha not only has kind eyebrows and kind eyes, but also has angry vajra eyes, and sometimes he also roars like a lion.
Ye Wumian studied Buddhism with the Shaolin lay disciple when he was a child. He is very familiar with this and is not surprised by it.
And what about the sloppy Taoist? It seems to be true, what he said in defense of himself was wonderful and impeccable, so Ye Wu Mian naturally didn't think there was anything wrong with him.
"Actually, the two monks just have different positions. Apart from not paying for breaking things, how can there be any absolute right or wrong?"
"Listening to the two of them debating, I had a vague feeling of enlightenment; watching the two of them in martial arts, I had a different feeling. Although in terms of movement and stillness, it was just the movement of the state, but each move was completely natural, as if It was taught directly by the founder and has never been influenced by commentators; as for its lightness skills, it is even more incredible. With my state of counter-passage and all my strength, I am afraid that I can catch up with the two of them?"
There was a burning feeling in his heart, and he thought to himself: "These two extraordinary people, why don't I catch up and take a look? Maybe I can catch something."
