At that time, he didn't want to see his enlightenment, so he deliberately poisoned Bodhidharma. Without fear, he took dozens of poisons that penetrated the intestinal tract, and in the end, not only did he not die, but he was in high spirits and cultivated a golden body!"
"At that time, I was very puzzled. Why would the Bodhidharma monk, who was invulnerable to dozens of poisons, be afraid of a poisonous snake? Now it seems that everything makes sense."
Li Daoxuan nodded and thought about it at the same time.
Bodhidharma is the ancestor of the Zen sect in the Central Plains. He has also cultivated a golden body. His magical power is so high that he may have entered the realm of immortal gods above the realm of Yangshen. Even so, he still fell into the hands of Moro. It can be seen that The other party is indeed unfathomable.
Sanle continued: "Bodhidharma died at the hands of Moro, but Moro did not pay the price. He was seriously injured and rested for decades after that. It was not until the end of the Sui Dynasty that he came out to stir up trouble. .”
Li Daoxuan's heart moved. No wonder there was no trace of Moro religious activities before the end of the Sui Dynasty. It turned out that Moro was injured by Bodhidharma at that time and was in a dormant state.
"Master, what does this matter have to do with Maha?"
Sanle's eyes were very complicated and he sighed: "This brings us to the second sentence of Maha's poem."
"I met a monk on the river by chance and mistakenly formed a bond with Bodhi?"
"Exactly, the monk it met by chance on the river was Bodhidharma. As for the so-called Bodhi Destiny, it refers to the indestructible golden body left behind by Bodhidharma after his death."
Li Daoxuan had a flash of inspiration, and he suddenly thought of something, and asked in shock: "Could it be that Maha's golden body is Bodhidharma's body back then?"
If you put it this way, then many things can be explained clearly.
Why does Maha obviously not have the state of mind and virtue of an eminent monk, but he has vast Buddhist power and a golden body that countless Buddhist disciples will find difficult to achieve in their lifetimes?
Because Maha is simply Li Daitaojiang, stealing the fruits of Bodhidharma’s lifelong hard work!
Sure enough, Sanle nodded and said: "Little friend Li guessed right. When Bodhidharma fought with Moro on the Luo River, he was seriously injured and was dying. At this time, a poisonous snake crawled along the river and bit him completely to death. That poisonous snake was The Maha who dwells in the mysterious water."
"Then Moro had a sudden idea. He extracted the soul of the poisonous snake and transferred it to Bodhidharma's golden body in an attempt to cultivate a powerful subordinate and named him Maha, which means " It means immeasurable and great, and it is obvious that Moro had high hopes for it.”
"It's a pity that although Maha stole Bodhidharma's golden body, he was not as good as Bodhidharma after all. His realm slipped and he practiced hard for decades, and in the end he was only in the realm of Yangshen."
At this point, the origin of Maha's heels and feet has been fully explained. Li Daoxuan suddenly realized that he suddenly understood many details that were difficult to understand before.
For example, why does Maha's Diamond Dharma appear to have two sides, one side is compassionate like a Buddha, and the other side is evil like a demon.
For example, why is the opponent's golden body so hard, but he is a little afraid of the little white snake in his sleeve.
Now it seems that it is probably because Bodhidharma finally died in the mouth of a poisonous snake, so his golden body left a flaw, and was conquered by the poisonous snake. It can be said that one drink and one peck are the number of days.
Taizhen suddenly laughed and said: "No wonder there is an allusion in this world about returning to the west on foot. It seems that the Bodhidharma that Song Yun saw back then was not the real Bodhidharma, but the Maha who had been possessed by a poisonous snake."
The so-called "returning to the west with nothing but shoes" refers to the fact that after Bodhidharma's death, Song Yun, the envoy of the Eastern Wei Dynasty, was on his way back to Luojing from the Western Regions. He passed by Congling and saw Bodhidharma's bare feet, holding a tin staff in one hand and shoes in the other. Heading towards the Western Region.
After he returned to Beijing, he reported the matter to the emperor. All civil and military officials were shocked because Bodhidharma had died long ago and could not appear in Ciling.
Later, the emperor ordered people to dig up Bodhidharma's tomb and found that the coffin was empty except for one shoe.
This is the origin of returning to the west.
Sanle sighed: "Although Maha has occupied Bodhidharma's golden body, he is not happy because he can hear some kind of Sanskrit sound day and night. That is Bodhidharma's obsession. After resolving his obsession, he wanted to fulfill Bodhidharma's last wish and go to Lingshan Mountain in the West to search for the Tripitaka Sutra, but after twenty years of trekking, he could not find any trace."
"In the end, he gradually became crazy in the sound of chanting that lingered in his ears day and night. A unrestrained snake demon, he actually started to read Buddhist scriptures. In fact, he didn't like Buddhist scriptures, but doing so would make him feel better."
"Later, he completely lost himself and fell into the obsession of Bodhidharma. He made a great wish to spread Buddhism to the world even if he could not find the Tripitaka Sutra."
Taizhen suddenly asked: "Isn't this also a good thing for you Buddhists?"
Sanle smiled bitterly and said: "The female donor was joking. Maha inherited Bodhidharma's golden body and obsession, but he did not inherit Bodhidharma's cultivation, knowledge, tolerance, mind, compassion and superb Dharma. How can he inherit Bodhidharma?" Have such a heavy obsession?"
"That's why he is called the evil Buddha. He acts unscrupulously and has fallen into the devil's path."
Li Daoxuan couldn't help but nod when he thought of what Maha and his disciples had done. Indeed, although his goal was to promote Buddhism, his actions had already seriously deviated from Buddhism.
In order to save a pigeon being chased by an eagle, the Buddha did not hesitate to cut its meat and feed it to the eagle. His compassion moved the world, but Mahatma, on the other hand, completely regarded human life as nothing. From Turks to Chang'an, countless people were affected by him along the way. He was bewitched by the Sanskrit sounds and died.
Those who can make great aspirations must have matching inner cultivation and mind-set, such as Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva who vows not to become a Buddha until hell is empty.
If you have magical powers but no character, you will soon lose yourself under the pressure and go to extremes.
"Fortunately, before Maha died, he finally let go of his obsession, and then he came up with the last four sentences. For ninety years, the Sanskrit music has been filled with endless dreams. Now he is gone alone, counting three thousand."
Sanle clasped his hands together and sighed softly.
Li Daoxuan was slightly startled. He remembered Maha's last words before his death.
"Sanle, I have been reciting Buddhist scriptures for ninety years, but in the end I discovered that what I liked most was still the soft mud."

He felt a little sad in his heart. Maha was both lucky and unfortunate in his life. Fortunately, he easily obtained the golden body and most of the cultivation skills of a powerful Buddhist, and easily entered the realm of Yangshen, becoming one of the few strong men in the world.
Unfortunately, the obsession that comes with power made him gradually lose himself.
He thought of Maha's expression of relaxation and relief when his golden body was completely refined by the true fire of Samadhi. Perhaps that moment was the most relaxing moment for him in more than ninety years.

Sanle seemed to recall those long-lasting years. He looked complicated and said: "When Bodhidharma died, I was already the deputy leader of the Moro Religion. Moro was seriously injured, so I handed him over to him. I’ll teach.”
