My friend is a very strange person. But I still can't tell what she is.
-A bird, a bee, a sunflower or anything else, could have you.
But I felt like, even though we didn’t know each other, we seemed to understand each other. I am a sunflower and she is a birch.
Isn't this enough?
The day had passed and we could not continue our journey. Instead, we sat and hid on the periphery, peering curiously at the many people, collectively, as if we were hunters wandering along the herd's periphery.
But we don’t hunt. We hide. We avoid responsibility. We observe.
Are you afraid of your own kind, Birch? Or is there something more to it?
-I can't say.
It might just be something Himawari will never truly know. But as we sat under the tree and observed, something gradually dawned on me.
I already know I don't like heights.
Birch climbed up the tree and I rode on her back.
Have sunflowers grown so tall before?
I never knew it could climb so high, and the tree didn't seem to mind our interruption too much.
Having said that, the amount of sunlight we can collect here is not optimal.
-But my friend refuses to return to the ground. She climbed up the tree and I climbed up her and the two of us could not see the sun but looked at the creatures in the house, the "village".
Most curious.
There are similarities between them. The female resembles herself and the male resembles the gray foragers we eat on the other side of the world. But their skin color is different from Birch's, their hair is different from Birch's, and their eyes, although we rarely see them, are also different from Birch's.
They are the same, but they are not. Like wolves from different litters, they share a basic similarity but have distinct differences in their external features.
Is this why we hide? Are you curious if we will be accepted by others?
Fear is one of the funniest feelings.
I wonder what it's like?
This must be exciting for her.
I turned my head to the sky, trying to see even a little bit of sunlight.
I can't cope.
That's for the future.
I manage.
Life is interesting like that.

The word "timber" finds us again. Burch was excited. I find this most annoying because she jumps up and down on her feet, disturbing my peaceful, quiet rest on her back. My leaves are shaking. My petals tremble. My body is shaking.
Then she stopped jumping around, satisfied with what she had achieved. I do not quite understand. But I figured if she was happy, then I could tolerate a little bouncing.
After all, what good are friends?
"When I reach level five, I can take a class," she explained, looking back at me as if I knew what that meant.
I don't.
I am a sunflower.
But, again, if she's happy, I think I'll be happy too. After all, the sun is shining brightly today. The wind was calm. The air is very clean. The soil is very fertile.
I unfolded my leaves and petals and raised my head.
very good.
We camped in secret. now it is night.
Birch made his choice.
"I want to go to the village tomorrow," she said, practicing her "magic."
We did not light a fire as it would have exposed our hiding place to the creatures of the village. This is a nest found among many trees in suburban areas. There are many rocks around us.
She lifted her legs again, from the neck down, and placed the book in her lap.
(Birch) Use: (Small Pulse)
My leaves trembled as if the ground around us had a small tremor. The trees around us were creaking and dropping a few leaves.
She does this so often that I find it annoying. But she seemed excited about it, about its magic. From what I've seen of her kind, I think she's still very young. She is still full of the excitement and curiosity of youth.
-Me too.
After all, I am the most excitable sunflower.
I've been taking risks and suffered greatly in that bird's mouth. I sat in a cave and rejected a suitor. I drank red water and ate mashed potatoes.
The energy of youth fills my roots.
My seeds are young and my petals are bright. The season of life has just begun and there is so much to live and so much to see.
-make trouble.
The mycelium reminds me that there are people walking along the rocky fields, and I calmly raise my curious eyes, even late at night.
Predator?
No.
This is one of her kind.
Birch turned to face the chaos in the darkness, clutching the fish trap he had taken from the dank forest - a spike.
"Akt 'chala?" a voice asked. I don't know what's written on it. It's another language.
A curious chubby face leaned against a large rock and stared at us. It's very young. female. A villager. They both looked at each other strangely for a moment.
fear.
The strange girl screamed, clearly unhappy to see Birch in the dark.
I don't quite understand this. I think Birch is good-looking, despite how ugly I used to think she was. But that was before I knew she wasn't who she was then. Maybe I'm just liking her more and more?
My friend, in what was probably an unconscious panic, lunged forward and grabbed the child, covering her mouth to silence her. "Wait! That's good!" Birch muttered. "Shhh! We're friendly!"

-I wonder if she has thought it through?
Maybe not.
Birch was hit in the head and the child ran away screaming again.

The ground shook, there was a crack, and it was wet.
The child fell and hit his head on one of the many rocks.
Silence once again took over the night. I watched Birch lie there, staring at the motionless silhouette, scattered at an odd angle on the stone.
-red dripping into the dirt.
It's still quiet.
Then the sound came from far away, from the village.
so unlucky.
Birch jumped up and grabbed me, and we both ran off into the night.
This is awesome.
I never knew children could die like this.
——Incredible.
Maybe after Birch ate the baby rabbit this should be obvious to me? Are we going to eat the baby too?
No. It seemed that was not the case as we ran away from the bodies and fled the village.
oh.
I guess I don't even mind, really.
I am a sunflower.
There will be other bodies to eat.
Life is indeed a complicated thing.
The sun came to greet us again, and Birch and I ran through the darkness. We ran in the dark through fields and meadows where many nocturnal animals grazed.
Now, as far as her legs could take us, we had arrived at a new location, where Birch sat by the creek.
I like Brooks.
They are like streams.
Nostalgic.
My friend took off her bark and jumped into the water, but this time, instead of playing, she found pleasure in the bath. She just freshened up and returned to me, basking in the most merciful sunlight.
We sat there in silence, under the warm light of the beautiful things in the sky. Water dripped from her body, soaking the soil where I was rooted, and the two of us watched as the sun drifted toward the west, toward the heavens.
what a wonderful day.
Birch clasped his knees, drew his head in, began to cry and tremble, feeling a terrible feeling that only the living could feel, and now we were finally at rest.
——Incredible.
