I'm at peace.
My friend is calm.
We live in peace.
The water slid down the face of the large rock we were hiding in, dripping gurglingly to the ground. A refuge.
After a lot of drinking and walking, we escaped the fire on dry land. Now we leave them behind and the rain comes.
- I guess it's a sarcasm.
I don't have particularly strong feelings about rain.
My friend shrunk his legs and leaned against the rock wall. She huddled together and stared out at the world, which was being doused with soft water.
After giving it some thought, I realized they were "legs," not stumps.
What a fool I am. Of course it's the legs, the thing that's attached to her body. Birds have legs. Frogs have legs. My friend also has legs.
But doesn't that mean she couldn't be a snake? Snakes don't have legs, after all.
So what are you, friend? Again, I don't know.
The rain blocked my sun and I didn't like it. But rain also fertilizes the soil. It nourishes the world. It nourishes me.
My roots were buried deep in the sediment under the overhang, reaching into the soil of the birch forest, absorbing a lot of water.
The sky lit up for a moment, as if the sun was peeking out of the darkness above us. Then there was a roaring crack. thunder.
Wow.
I watched the light disappear in an instant. I listened as the rumbling roar traveled around the world for much longer than that.
What an amazing life.
Sunflowers don't usually experience storms. After all we have no eyes.
-A puzzle.
I turned my head closer to my non-snake friend to get a better look at her face.
How can I see if I don't have eyes?
I have no idea. This is not a question for Sunflower to answer.
She turned her head and looked in my direction without raising her face from the nose of the appendages that wrapped around her.
"Hey..." she said. She turned her head and looked out at the rain-washed world. "I'm glad you came."
-A weirdo.
I lifted myself up.
I guess I'm happy too.
I watch the rain. A snail crawled along the wet rocks to my left.
Wow.
it is very beautiful.
Some cracks. The snail disappeared under the rock and I watched my desperate friend eat it.
What a magical world.
It's still raining. We're still in the shelter, but there's a problem.
She was quiet, pressing herself against the rock, and I didn't move. Not because of fear, but because there was no sunlight to guide my way.
I think this is unfortunate.
Something scurried across the top of the rock, sniffing and crawling in the dark. This is our problem. It sounded like a non-bird, right above our heads.
I think it smells like your eyes, friend. Like the birds can smell my seed.
She looked towards me quietly, and the expression on her face made me feel very embarrassed. It seemed like it was demanding something from me.
I understand what she wants, but honestly, it's a waste of energy for me.
I looked back at the overhang above us.
Maybe that's what friendship is, however? An inefficient use of energy now for long-term gain. Maybe friendship is like using corpses as fertilizer? You will not eat the fruit now, but in the time to come, you will eat the fat fruit from the fat tree.
-very good.
But that's just because we're friends.

Something roared above us. A long nose and crooked face poked out from above our heads, looking at the word woods. The non-bird, that ugly thing, roared at the sight of my indefinable friend, the unidentifiable charm.
I think it really wanted to eat her eyes.
My roots sucked water from the rocky outcrops, filling themselves up until they were ready to burst. It's a rather unpleasant feeling.
I am not a splash.
I am a sunflower.

The ground shook around us. The rocks above us crackled and became dangerously loose. Many of them fell, and the non-birds fell with them. It landed on its back and grabbed the big stone that fell on its chest.
What a strange creature.
I looked at it. It does remind me of my friends. But its eyes are ugly. It has a pair of bird eyes. It doesn't have good eyes like hers.
Unfortunately, it has a rock on it.
-My friend doesn't.
I looked back at the sky, wondering if the sun would ever come back?
I really miss it.
As I gazed melancholy at the gray sky above me, there came a series of crackling sounds, too humid even for this weather, and then the non-birds fell silent.
The soil sucked its blood deeply, and I think I secretly and playfully took a sip.
After all, what’s the point of life if you don’t live a little?
This will be our secret.

I am an adventurous sunflower.
positive.
I'm sure.
I sit facing the east and expectantly, hoping that there will be a new sun today.
We left our shelter and wandered in the rain and the world, looking for what we were looking for.
I'm not sure what that is exactly. My friend doesn't like to talk, and so do I.
Not far away, the fire crackled as she devoured the rich gifts brought by the hunt.
-A rabbit. A little rabbit.
We were walking along the field and she saw a rabbit. But it's fast. Before we could catch it, it ran back into the hole. So, like a fox, she dug into the ground feverishly. The big rabbit is gone. But in the hole, she found many little rabbits and could not escape.
The fire crackled and she began to eat.
Good luck to you, friend. I guess I should have known better. This is obvious. You have legs, you're always so red, you love to hide and run away, and now seeing you hunting rabbits in a hole, that's the most obvious thing to me.
-You are a fox.
sure.
Forgive me, friend. I didn't know you were a fox. I am a ignorant sunflower. So far, I have many guesses about you.
oh. It doesn't matter.
I stared east as I listened to my fox friend finish his meal.
soon.
Looking forward to the coming moment, I unfold my leaves, unfold my petals, and stand proudly.
After all, I wanted to look presentable in the sun.
Something is moving around me. I was worried that what she was missing was a rabbit that would come and nibble on my flower branches and thick roots. But I knew it was just her.
My fox friend looked up at me, then sat down next to me, also facing east, with his legs crossed.
The two of us stayed there, the fire crackling beside us and filled with small, dry bones. The sun rises in the east, bringing with it a stunning beauty that is not of this world or any other.
Wow.
Red light pours down from the distant horizon, heralding the arrival of a new day full of sunshine and life.
I hope we see another big pile of dirt today, or maybe a weird rock? That would be exciting.
Maybe, if I'm really lucky, we can see something I've never seen before. But I guess, in situations like this, I'm always lucky. Every day, I see something new.
What a wonderful life.
My fox friend sat comfortably next to me and the two of us basked in the sunshine of a brand new morning, free from any old worries and fears of the new day.
very good.
