It is peaceful.
I sat among the rocks. My roots sink deep into what little soft soil there is.
This is an unusual place for a sunflower.
She does sit-ups.
I turned around and looked at my insect friend. She was clean again. She washed the redness off her body.
-I like the color red.
It makes her look interesting, just like it makes the stone look interesting. It almost made the two of them look like suns.
That's great.
But now, we are somewhere else. Since the day of the non-Bird, a new moon and a new sun have appeared, and now we are in a place where I find...
- So unusual.
She crunched again on the bountiful fruits of the great trees that grew in the most inhospitable places for trees to grow.
I looked up into the sunlight, which was streaming in through the gaping hole in the rock above us.
We are in a cave.
This is a most unusual place for a sunflower.
Calm water fills the center of the room, and brilliant sunlight shines in, reflecting off the calm, almost disturbing blue pool.
I don't like caves.
But I guess this is good, the sun can find me here.
I spread out the leaves, enjoying the feeling of the sun and bathing in its love.
My earthworm friend, still wet from his bath in the water from his hole, continued to eat, devouring the fat fruits of the many heavy trees around us. I don't know why they chose to grow in a place with such limited soil and sunlight. They are strange trees.
But I guess I'm being judgmental again.
-bad habit.
Eat well, friend. Maybe if you eat enough, you will become beautiful, like me.
The sun kisses my face.

This is the wonderful life of a sunflower.
She seemed hesitant to leave.
I see.
But I do hope we can.
My ugly friend found comfort in this hole, in this hole. She found fruit from many generous trees and I thought I should thank them. After all, they were sharing with her and, in turn, she was sharing with me, nourishing my soil with the rotting pulp.
But the sun appears here for the second time.
She eats their fruits and drinks the water from their caves. That's all she does. She ate, drank, and bathed, and then sat by the fire until she could eat, bathe, and drink again.
I don't understand why she doesn't sit in the sun with me?
-It would be a lot less work.
Maybe she is also ugly in her heart?
Rude thoughts about me. Maybe I'm not a good friend?
The sun shines on my face just as she sits next to me again. I looked at her and thought, when are we leaving?
Do you think it's safe here, friend?
This is stupid.
I turned to look at the hole in the cave ceiling, from which her fire was emerging.
If you don't leave, they will find us soon.
Indifferent, I shook my leaves.
I guess I really don't care. As long as the sun reaches me, I'm fine. Although, the few hours I can spend here are not enough to bring me true happiness. I only felt a small fraction of it throughout the entire day.
I am deprived of the love of the sun.
oh.
Maybe tomorrow.
We are still here.
friend
I was getting more and more uneasy.
-This is most unusual for sunflowers.
I looked over at my bug friend, she was curled up on the rock next to me, her fire whispering to keep her warm. Discarded, half-eaten pieces of fruit that she had eaten for days were scattered around us.
After eating, resting, and drinking, she seemed stronger, less crazy, and calmer.
I'm grateful for that last one. But I’m not grateful that we’re still here. I want to leave.
But she was afraid to leave.
Maybe she really is a bug? Maybe that’s why we live underground now?
This makes sense to me.
I leaned forward and pressed my face against hers curiously, trying to get a response from her.
She looked at me and we stared at each other for a moment.
"Are you thirsty?" she asked, breaking the silence.
How unusual.
Very few people talk to me.
I raised my head, speechless. Even if I knew, I wouldn't be able to say it.
After all, I am a sunflower.
"I'm sorry," said my ugly friend. "I bet you're scared too, aren't you?" she asked, standing up to bring me some water in her stump cup.
I'm not that kind of person.
I'm calm.
look. The sun will come out soon. I hope we'll be gone by the time the sun shines into this hole tomorrow.
Otherwise, I don't think we can leave anymore.
Mushrooms on the ground tell me that non-birds are trampling the area. They're looking, they're looking for little seeds like hers to bite.
I think if she gets angry again, they'll probably find us. Or they won't?
-It doesn't matter.
I am a sunflower.
After watering me, she picked up a piece of fruit from her feet and took a bite. Juice dripped down her face.

Overly soaking the roots and capillaries with hard water is generally not suitable for sunflowers. Releasing them all at once will cause a minor earthquake.
Yes.
Invite friends.
She uprooted me and took me with her. We stood at the entrance to the cave where we had entered three days ago.
Should we go?
I hope so.
I turned my head and looked at her. She seemed trapped in place, as if her stump had been driven into the soil beneath her. She seemed unable to take another step out of the cave.
You feel safe here.
-But you are wrong, my insect friend.
This is not a refuge. It's a cave and we were lucky that the residents there hadn't returned yet, otherwise there would have been suspicions about the smoke.
She looked back, past me, back at the cave and saw the tantalizing promise it offered. Food, water, shelter. Everyone says this is paradise.
what will you do?
We stood there for a while, and then, she walked out for the day.
--good.
Let's continue our journey.
She took another step, a little faster, as if she was forcing herself to move against her body's will, and then, even though no one was here to watch us with hungry eyes, my ugly friend ran away.
I feel very annoyed. After all, today is such a peaceful day.
But maybe she was just afraid of what was in the cave, if she turned around and faced it a second time.
As we disappeared into the forest, little did she know how, behind her, behind us, the rocks of the cave entrance moved as if they were moving of their own accord.
-As if it were a mouth that was forever closed.
We disappeared into the woods, which also bothered me a little.
But I decided to be happy.
After all, look at all these amazing things I've seen.
Wow.
What a wonderful world.
A butterfly flew in front of me.
it is very beautiful.
Its wings are soft and yellow, like the brilliance of the sun, like my own petals. I turned my head and watched it float by. My friend noticed my movement and turned too.
She has stopped running now.
The two of us looked at the butterflies.
The sun shines down from the sky, painting the world with a beauty that only the living can have.
Butterflies are beautiful, right?
They hide in the darkness like ugly things and then come back into the sunlight, and it seems to me that we all belong to the sunlight.
-I stopped and looked at my ugly, annoying friend.
Maybe she was a butterfly? Is that why we stayed in the cave for so long?
Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe she's not scared at all? Maybe this is just her transition into adulthood?
Forgive me, friend. I am very ignorant.
I didn't know you were a butterfly.
My eyes turned to the butterfly again, and it disappeared into the distance.
The two of us, me and my beautiful butterfly friend, kept walking.
