Early the next morning, Liu Gushu opened the courtyard door, and all the livestock were out of their cages, pecking at the rice and other feed he had scattered in the courtyard. Only the white goose was not greedy for this and swayed quietly out of the courtyard gate. Liu Gushu watched it from a distance, walked around the village house, and ran after it to see where it was going.

Sure enough, the white goose rushed along the stone steps towards the temple. At this point, the sound of chanting can be heard from the temple. The white goose walked to the door of the temple, flapped its wings, and bowed to the temple. Then it raised its head and held its breath to listen. When it was tired, it sat down like a nest. Looks like a meditating monk.

Liu Gushu found it funny: Why does this white goose want to become a monk? His family had a pair of white geese. This was one of them, a male. The female was snatched away by a weasel on the mountain. Yesterday, he thought that the white goose had also become the food of the weasel. Unexpectedly, it was lucky, safe and sound, and could become enlightened and listen to sutras. Liu Gushu did not disturb the white goose who was listening to the scriptures. He returned to the village and told the people in the village about the matter. He couldn't tell the reason why it was good or bad. All this talk made Liu Gushu feel very confused.

That night I saw the white goose in a cage, so I caught it and tied one of its legs with a rope. It didn't care at the time. The next morning, when it was about to leave the cage and go to the mountain temple to listen to scriptures, it took a few steps out of the cage. , and couldn't walk anymore. It turned out that I was trapped on a rope. It squawked, as if asking for help from its master, but also as if it wanted to make the master uneasy.

Liu Gushu came over and said: If you still scream, I will kill you with one knife. When Liu Gushu said this, he actually took out a kitchen knife with a frost-like edge from the kitchen. Just as he was about to reach out to catch the white goose and torture him, he suddenly heard a voice: "Wait a minute!" Please listen to the old man's words, put down the butcher's knife, and become a Buddha immediately!

Why are you here again? Liu Gushu felt strange and was about to attack the white goose when Monk Xuyun came to rescue it.

Liu Gushu was unhappy. Monk Xuyun stepped forward, stopped him, took out money from his pocket, and said to Liu Gushu: Can I use the money to redeem the life of Master Bai Goose?

Liu Gushu immediately threw the kitchen knife on the ground and took the money, which was at the mid-range price of selling a white goose. He felt comfortable again and said okay, I won't look at the monk's face to look at the Buddha's face, and I will leave this goose to you today.

Monk Xuyun squatted down and tried to untie the rope that tied the white goose's toes, but he couldn't. Liu Gushu came over, picked up the kitchen knife on the ground and cut it. The white goose broke free from the rope and was liberated. It flapped its wings, saluted Monk Xuyun, walked straight out of the hospital, walked around the village house, and walked on the stone mountain road. Walk towards the temple where sutras are chanted.

At this time, the whole mountain was covered with brilliant morning light, and the whole mountain was filled with the aftertaste of the scriptures. The white goose came to the side of the temple and still listened to the scriptures devoutly as usual.

Monk Xuyun who was following behind looked at it and said: Master White Goose, if you practice well, you will definitely be reborn in the Pure Land.

The white goose turned around and called him politely, then sat there cross-legged like a monk meditating and listened to the sutra. When the sound of the sutra stopped, it had not left, with a focused expression as if it was meditating.

When a frog jumps by, his mind is not disturbed; when a grasshopper rests in front of him, he is innocent. Normally, it might have pecked frogs and grasshoppers, but now a kind thought of compassion and joy made it pity their lives. It firmly believes that listening to the scriptures and enlightening the Tao can escape the suffering of animals.

A few hours later, at noon, it was still sitting cross-legged in the vertical sunshine in the open air without any shadow. Its body was pure white, as sacred as a water lily in meditation.

The weasel hiding in the cave has been coveting the white goose. Now it climbed out and walked quietly through the bushes and thorns to approach the white goose. It was not sure of conquering the white goose, so it moved very slowly, fearing that the white goose might occasionally turn its head and peck it with its long flat beak and kick it with its heavy toes. it. But it took one step or two closer until it came to the white goose. The white goose was still indifferent, as if nothing had come, and its eyes were still staring at the temple.

The weasel opened its mouth and took an exploratory bite of the goose's feathers. This was considered a provocation, but the goose still didn't resist. Why didn't the goose defend itself when the enemy was approaching? The weasel was puzzled, so it bit the goose's neck. The goose didn't cry or resist.

But who knew that the white goose was going to dedicate his body to the weasel. How did it become so noble? This is because after listening to the sutras and enlightening them, they are about to escape from life and death. Its actions touched the Bodhisattva. At this moment, the weasel bit its body and it no longer felt pain. Its soul suddenly came out of the body. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva was stepping on the lotus mat and riding on the colorful auspicious clouds to welcome it to the pure land of the Buddha.

Not long after Li Gui ate the soup made by the old woman with boiled water and feathers at Liu Duanping's house, he happened to walk by the back mountain. The green clumps of masson pine reminded him of the old woman's nest on the pine tree in the mountain forest, where she was lost in thought. While he was having fun catching crows, there was a sudden "croak" sound, and an awl fell from the sky, hitting the top of his head heavily. Before he could recover, he felt a heartbreaking pain. Instinctively, he raised his hands and clasped his head, and something sticky appeared on it. He felt it was blood, but without looking, he discovered that the one that attacked him just now was a crow, leaping up into the sky with a "hoo" and heading towards the distant place. The mountains and forests flew away.

He touched the top of his head again. The sticky substance soaked into his hair and flowed down his face from his forehead. It was a stream of blood with a faint fishy smell. Wasn't the old woman hunted? Oh, by the way, it must be Gong Laolu who is here to seek revenge.

Li Gui pressed his head with both hands, but he couldn't stop the blood from flowing out like a spring. As he walked through the village, his whole body was stained with blood, and he looked like a bloody man.

An old man saw it and hurriedly took out "Tiger Mushroom" - a mushroom-shaped hemostatic powder from home and applied it to the wound on his head, which finally stopped the bleeding. It was very painful. Li Gui howled and cursed, "I must kill that hurting bird."

Liu Duanping learned about this matter again. Liu Duanping went to the hospital to see him. The doctor was bandaging him. The old injury on his forehead had not yet healed, and a new injury was added to the top of his head. Liu Duanping comforted him and said: Xiao Guizi, that male vulture pecked you. After you are injured, pay attention and observe it. If you spot it correctly, use a shotgun to kill it.

After the two wounds on Li Gui's head that had been pecked by the old vulture healed, he went to Liu Duanping and said that he wanted to learn hunting. Liu Duanping was reluctant at first, not that he was reluctant to teach him this craft. The problem was that Li Gui was young and the shotgun was taller than him. Moreover, hunting was extremely unsafe. If it went off, he might hurt himself or others, or even hurt himself. There was a danger of being shot to death, so Liu Duanping was extremely worried and did not relent. He only said that he would teach you how to hunt when you grow up.

Li Gui couldn't wait to ask: How old do you have to wait until I grow up before you teach me how to hunt?

At least until you graduate from junior high school. Liu Duanping touched his head and said: You were a young man at that time, much stronger than you are now, so you can rest assured if I teach you how to hunt.
