The old man was still skeptical and asked with a smile, "What can you, a monk, do for us?" Oh, by the way, there is a rolling mountain dozens of miles away from Hualing Temple. There are villages to the south and north of the mountain. There is a road passing through the mountain. The middle section of the road is on a steep slope. It was established more than 20 years ago. Passed by.
One day, a monk from the Hualing Temple where you lived borrowed someone else's truck to practice driving. He drove in a hurry and rushed down a steep slope. Unfortunately, he hit a thick oak tree beside the road. As a result, the truck overturned and caught fire. , the monk was burned to death.
Later, in order to prevent further accidents on that stretch of road, the local government organized manpower to repair the steep slope into a gentle slope. However, accidents still occurred in recent years. It was the year before last! A plowman who knew how to plow the fields had just come out of the woods and walked onto the road. His belly was scratched by a piece of steel stretched out sideways by a farm truck hauling steel. The intestines inside were about to pop out, and blood was dripping all the way. In the village, the pity on the water was that it was not dead at that time and could not be cured. It was in pain for a day and a night. The next day, the owner of the cow took it to the city and sold it to a livestock slaughterhouse to be killed.
Amitabha! May my Buddha save the soul of that beast. After hearing this, Qian Jishi felt pity and clasped his hands together and recited words of mercy.
The old man continued, it was nothing if a cow died. But one early morning on a hot day this year, a middle-aged man driving a tractor fell to death on the gentle slope of the mountain road. Unfortunately, the tractor overturned and his body was pinned inside the truck. When he was found, he was already dead. After a while, the skin on my body turned black. Monk, I feel that there must be evil spirits on the gentle slope of the mountain road. Is there any way you can suppress it?
Qian Jishi did not answer directly, but asked, what is that middle-aged man doing driving a tractor? Is it for transportation?
The old man shook his head and said he was not doing transportation. The deceased's name was Capricious, a man from our bay. He had no legitimate occupation. Every hot day, he would drive a tractor from the north of the mountain and go through the mountain road to the south of the mountain to catch eels and frogs, because there were everywhere. The paddy field channels are full of channels, which are suitable for the breeding and habitat of eels and frogs. But who would have thought that something would happen when Huanli, who was fully clothed, drove the tractor back to the gentle slope of the mountain road.
Qian Jishi said "Oh" but said nothing. He held the empty alms bowl and had no alms to eat, but he changed his plan and route and walked to the county town to find a stonemason who was a professional in carving stone monuments and wanted to alms for a stone monument.
How could the mason agree? He stopped using the chisel in his hand to carve out the stone monument, raised his head and said with a straight face, "Monk, go away. You can alms for a bowl of rice, it's only worth that much." Do you know how much a stone tablet is worth? Plus shipping costs, it’s even more. I can't afford it if I donate a stone tablet to you! Besides, as a monk, what’s the point of asking for a stone tablet?
Qian Jishi had nothing to say, so he turned around and left with his empty bowl. After just a few steps, I heard a clang, and then heard a cry of pain; and then the scolding sound of the stonemason, you stinky monk, I was just talking to you, and when I was distracted and out in the field, this chisel... It’s time to cut my ring finger, it hurts so much!
When Qian Jishi turned around to look, he saw that the mason's left hand was full of blood. He walked over and said with great embarrassment, Donor, I'm sorry, I apologize to you.
The mason sitting on the end of a chair used the thumb and forefinger of his right hand to press the bloody index finger of his left hand that was pierced through the skin. At this moment, he spoke as if he had eaten dynamite: You stinky monk, what is the use of apologizing? Can it help my hands not hurt? Can the wound on my index finger heal immediately? He looked at Qian Jishi with a ashamed face and said even more fiercely, "Get away, I'm annoyed when I see you."
But how could he have expected that? , Qian Jishi was not angry, but said kindly, Donor, I have a way to make your hand pain-free and make the wound on your index finger heal immediately.
Do you have this ability? If you have the ability, I will give you a stone tablet. Don't talk big if you don't have the ability. How can the mason believe it? He was squinting his eyes and asking questions.
Are you serious? I have this ability, so you just give me a stone tablet? When Qian Jishi asked the question and saw the mason nodding affirmatively, he began to recite the incantation taught to him by the protector who had been following him and secretly helping him.
About a minute later, the blood-covered fingers of the mason's hand were no longer bleeding and the bleeding had stopped; about two minutes later, the wound on his left index finger healed and became less painful. The mason shook his hand a few times to see if there were any sequelae of soreness, swelling and pain. No!
He suddenly wanted to regret not giving the stone tablet to the monk. But as he thought, the newly healed wound on his index finger began to hurt again, and blood began to flow, and a drop fell on the chisel he placed on the stone tablet. He looked up at Qian Jishi and asked painfully, "What?" Is my wound bleeding again?
At this moment, a voice in Qian Jishi's ear told him, Mason, do you want to regret it? If you regret it, the wound will come back again. As long as you don't regret it, the bleeding wound will stop bleeding and heal naturally.
The stonemason lowered his head in shame and thought to himself: He shouldn't have had the thought of regretting just now. Suddenly he said loudly, Monk, once a gentleman has said something, it is difficult for a horse to chase it. I will donate a stone tablet to you. As soon as he finished speaking, his bleeding index finger stopped bleeding immediately, and the wound healed again. The stonemason stood up happily, looked at the rows of stones piled up in the field and said, "Monk, you choose a piece and tell me what words you want to chisel on it."
Qian Jishi chose a medium-sized piece of marble and asked him to chisel four large characters on it. The stonemason picked up the chisel and said it was OK. You come to pick it up tomorrow. You can't move it alone. You have to at least call a monk from the temple to help carry it.
The next morning, Qian Jishi came here with the banker's wallet, used a cart to pull the stone tablet to the side of the mountain road with a gentle slope, and planted it in a pit that had been dug. In this way, the stone monument is called a road monument. The front and back of the road monument are chiseled with the same four striking words: Amitabha!
Ten years later, there were no more car accidents on this mountain road; forty years later, the same thing happened. From now on, it will still be peaceful and peaceful.
At that time, Qian Jishi had become an old monk, and he still lived alone in Hualing Temple. Despite this, the incense became more and more prosperous. Over the years, he spent the incense money accumulated in the temple and led a group of lay people to the county to buy turtles, turtles, frogs, snakes and other living animals and release them to the rivers and mountains.
He said that freeing animals can lead to immortality. Many people were originally ill and mentally depressed. Because they followed him and released animals once a month, they were no longer eaten. He cultivated the compassion of Bodhisattvas and refrained from doing evil and performed good deeds. Those who persisted Some of these people were cured by long-lasting strange diseases or common rheumatism, cataracts, hypertension and other diseases without taking any medicine; some old people who lived into the old age are still in good spirits and free of diseases. Health, really get the benefits of longevity.
On February 19 of that year, which was the Christmas Day of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, Qian Jishi led nearly a thousand lay Buddhists to the Panlong River and Damo Mountain, more than ten kilometers away, to release animals. A few days before the release, Qian Jishi posted several release proposals in the villages and towns near Hualing Temple. This made it known to a group of idle people in the society who did not believe in the release. Not only did they not participate in the release, they also operated water and land wild animals in the market. The owners of the animals tipped them off and colluded with them to deliberately raise prices to make huge profits when lay people came to buy live animals for release, and they collected information fees from them.
Ordinarily, this group of idlers would stop here. Instead, they expected the laymen to release several trucks of mullet, turtles and other living creatures into the river. Then they would wait a moment and catch them as soon as the laymen left. The captured live animals are sold again to make a second profit. They even laughed at the lay people who often spent money to buy things and free their lives. They were fools and had fallen into their trap.
