Zen Buddhism is one of the sects of Chinese Buddhism. It began with Bodhidharma and flourished with the Sixth Patriarch Huineng. It became the mainstream of Chinese Buddhism after the middle and late Tang Dynasty and is also one of the most important symbols of Chinese Buddhism. Most Chinese Buddhist sects come from India, but only Tiantai, Huayan and Zen are three local Buddhist sects independently developed in China. Among them, Zen has the most unique character.
Zen Buddhism does not rely on words, but points directly to the source of the heart.
Although the name of Shaolin Temple is very famous, in fact, the inheritance of Zen method has flaws.
In addition to Bodhidharma, Shaolin Temple only had a line of Zen masters named Fuyu during the Yuan Dynasty, but their longevity was very short, and they were not very famous in the entire history of Zen Buddhism. Far inferior to Tiantong Temple, Berlin Zen Temple and other Zen temples, Shaolin Temple is not included in the top ten Zen Buddhist temples.
During the Tang and Song Dynasties, when Zen Buddhism was at its peak, the Shaolin Temple did not record anyone who had attained enlightenment through Zen Buddhism. It was not until the Yuan Dynasty when Zen Buddhism began to decline that the Shaolin branch of the Caodong Sect existed. However, it only flourished for a short time and disappeared after the Ming Dynasty.
Later, the culture of Shaolin Temple became even weirder. They often boasted about the ancestral home of Zen sect to add aura to themselves.

After entering, I saw the fat monk Hongming sitting cross-legged on the futon.
Monk Hongming looked at him and said, "Sit down and talk."

The middle-aged monk exited and closed the door of the abbot's room.
Monk Hong Ming said: "I have been busy in retreat and haven't seen you for a long time. I want to have a good chat with you while I am free today."
Master Xuanku bowed slightly: "Master, please speak."
There are several generations between the two. Hong Ming is 400 years older than Xuan Ku.
"I heard that your explanation of Zen method is unique and very popular among the monks?"
"With the blessing of the ancestor, the disciple has understood something and is willing to tell it with all his heart to teach the younger disciples."

The biggest crisis is that the Shaolin Temple covers a small area. There are 36 peaks in Shaoshi Mountain, which sounds like a lot of peaks. However, the living space is limited and cannot accommodate many disciples.
I want to take down Mount Taishi and use it as the territory of Shaolin Temple!
You also know that Songshan Mountain includes Shaoshi Mountain and Taishi Mountain.
Taishi Mountain is the main peak of Songshan Mountain. Dayu's wife, Tushan, was born here. There is Qimu Temple built at the foot of the mountain, so it is called "Taishi" (room: wife.).
The Zhongyue Temple at the foot of Taishi Mountain is occupied by Taoism.
Songyang Academy at the southern foot of Mount Taishi was occupied by Confucians and was one of the four major academies in ancient times.
