The strategic purpose is to occupy the Sanchakou traffic artery and panic the Chinese defenders.
Because once the retreat is cut off, it means that the forces of these three divisions will be isolated and helpless. At that time, the Chinese defenders will be panic-stricken and will fail without attacking.
But I didn't expect the Dragon Boat Festival to return to defense in time and annihilate them in one fell swoop.
But even so, the battle in the direction of Mocheng Town is still not optimistic. The defenders of Mocheng Town not only had to face fierce attacks from the two brigades of the 43rd Regiment, but also had to mobilize their forces to deal with a Japanese squadron landing from Wangjiazhuang.
The Japanese who landed from Wangjiazhuang probably had a large group. After they captured Wangjiazhuang, 400 of them went to Sanchakou to set up defenses, while another Japanese squadron of more than 130 people attacked the flanks of Mocheng Town in a roundabout way. What's more, the 98th Division and the 13th Division were engaged in fierce exchanges of fire with the Japanese 33rd Regiment and another unidentified Japanese regiment of the 11th Division.
The Japanese 33rd Regiment is a fully-organized regiment. After the Songhu battle, it rested and replenished its troops, and then entered the front-line battle for the second time.
The 33rd Regiment has three infantry brigades, each with more than 1,100 people. Coupled with an artillery regiment, a baggage regiment, and a newly added tank brigade, he would dare to challenge any main division.
What's more, the 13th Division was already at the end of its strength. If it had not been defended by a large number of fortifications, the Thirteenth Division at this time might not have been able to hold on long ago.
The battle of the 98th Division is not optimistic either.
Although the unidentified Japanese regiment did not have the support of a tank brigade, it mobilized a large number of 37-caliber flat-fire artillery and 75-mm caliber mountain artillery to destroy the bunkers and machine gun bunkers on the 98th Division's position.
