The third volume is really a volume full of surprises.
For example, the final descent should theoretically be the final climax, allowing everyone to feel refreshed. But when I was writing about the descent, that is, when I was writing about the place where the legionnaires were overturned by the shock wave, I suddenly thought about the power of such a large floating island falling from the sky.
Then I casually looked through some information and found that an asteroid with a diameter of ten kilometers would be enough to wipe out the dinosaurs.
Although the floating city does not fly that high and is not that big, it is no joke to hit it by free fall. Just flattening an embassy and causing a wave of air is too childish.
So it became an earthquake.
There will be innocent casualties in the earthquake, right? So the protagonist's self-blame and guilt are arranged. Feeling these emotions, he should grow and further realize his responsibility to ordinary people, instead of just treating this as a once-in-a-lifetime event. take an exam.
It would be logical to open up some new spells later and even upgrade the protagonist's level.
In addition, when the protagonist blames herself and feels guilty, Elizabeth also makes a big score - just, you know, it's very logical, the plot has advanced to this point, and it would be inappropriate to write it otherwise.
The same is true for the part where Rosalie had a blood relationship earlier. The emotions have been heightened to this point. It has been decided that you two will talk about cross talk tonight - no, it has come true.
Surprises like this are scattered throughout this volume.
For example, my original arrangement was that Oudolf and Oga would come out to fight against the team first, and then the team would go to the embassy and fight against the Master and Kedia in order to close the portal.
But when I was designing later, I felt that two more seven rings were coming to fight. The readers would be tired of it and I would be tired of it, and I had made the protagonist’s right eyelid twitch before.
Originally, this right eyelid twitching should correspond to a big crisis. I arranged for the robots of the Cyclops Empire to be chased by a large number of robots, with their lives hanging by a thread.
As a result, I suddenly hit my head and thought of an idle thought I had made before: load six people. This was originally meant to be a joke, but when I was actually writing it, I found that shaking off this burden here worked particularly well, so I couldn’t help but shake it off.
The burden is shaken, the crisis is over and has become child's play.
But the slogan that was finally established cannot be wasted. As long as the protagonist's right eyelid twitches, the protagonist group will inevitably encounter a major crisis.
So the originally planned attack on the two middle bosses, Oga and Oudolf, turned into an attack on the two bottom bosses.
I am personally quite satisfied with the sense of crisis created in this part.
As for how to deal with this crisis and how to defeat the nine-ring mage with all the BUFFs, my original design was to have Elizabeth use one-ring charm to enchant humans.
There is a foreshadowing ahead, and the foreshadowing is completed by our dear protagonist himself: he can carry the power of a god, but as a result, he directly eats the charm of Elizabeth's ring on humans. This shows that our Miss Elizabeth's charm is really very high. Her charm human saving throw DC is very high, and the subject's saving throw will be at a disadvantage, so the lower of the two dice is chosen.
With this foreshadowing, there is nothing strange about Elizabeth using her charm to defeat the enemy Archmage, right?
But while I was writing, I suddenly had a better idea: I could ask Elzam to come to the rescue! In terms of time, it was almost time for him to be resurrected.
After all, in the book, it was almost a month ago that Elzam died last time.
At that time, I said from the character's point of view that if the Lich is prepared, it may be resurrected in a few weeks.
Moreover, Erzam also said "I will come back." So isn't now the best time to let him come back?
So Elizabeth's charm for humans is saved.
Thinking about it carefully, in order to highlight the specialness of this time when the king was charmed by Elizabeth, Elizabeth's charm of humans should be made ineffective on other people in the future, and it only succeeded once on the king.
All in all, that scene was changed into what it is now.
In order to prevent conflict between the previous and later descriptions, I also went back and revised the previously published chapters.
So those who are following this book may find it a bit confusing, but those who have read more than a dozen chapters at a time will find it very smooth.
I am quite satisfied with the content of this third volume.
The protagonist's growth seems very logical and smooth.
The role of Elzam as a villain has also been established, and his character arc is very full. The problem now is that I have to quickly make up what happened in his fourth resurrection.
However... you don't have to edit it. Just leave it blank as it is now. I think the effect will be better. If you really write it in detail, people may question "That's it?"
Yes, I don’t know what happened when Elzam was resurrected for the fourth time, I was just trying to make it up.
Just tell me if the Lich character has an arc!
Of course, I originally planned to finish talking about the river kingdoms in this volume and then go to Catalonia in the next volume.
But you see, the story is not under my control. So we can only tell the story of Yi Songzuo in the fourth volume.
By the way, what is the story of Yi Songzuo? All I can say now is that it should be all about dungeon exploration, mixed with some farming.
After all, there are now two thousand people on the floating island, and they have to worry about food and other things. The solution currently thought of is to plant "fairy beans" on the floating island, but as mentioned before, fairy beans have side effects. Eating it will lead to malnutrition.
So while the protagonist saves the world and battles wits and courage with the cult, he also wants to keep everyone on the floating island well fed.
Of course, we also need to find a way to solve the problem of crisis when the enemy's high-level spellcasters surprise.
Oh, by the way, many people may have noticed that the cult is not the ultimate mastermind, and the leader is also controlled by others. As for who is the real mastermind behind the scenes - do you think I would say I don’t know?
Hahaha, I didn’t expect that this time I directly used the official battle background! Now I can tell you that the masterminds behind the scenes are a group of survivors of the world corrupted and destroyed by Ragnora. They have become admirers of Ragnora, guiding Ragnora everywhere to invade the plane and destroy the new plane.
Plus, I’ve been obsessed with playing Baldur’s Gate 3 recently, so I’m going to add some more ideas about Githyanki space pirates, mind flayer masterminds, and more!
Everything can be fixed!
Okay, that’s the end of this volume. There should be no plot twists left in this volume. Except for Elzam, a character who is both good and evil, all the bosses that need to be defeated are defeated. The nobles who deserved to be destroyed were also destroyed, and the next volume is an independent chapter.
But the next volume - because my current archive is consumed by Victory 3 and Jagged Alliance 3, there is only one day left. In the 35 days of the next volume, "Armored Core 6" and "Starry Sky" will be released. It's really not good. Make sure you can open the sunroof...
Otherwise, if this is still the case, you should start reading books now and wait until October to read them. That way I will have less pressure.
If there is someone who is stubborn and just wants to read the following story right away, then we will see you in the first chapter of the fourth volume at 8 a.m. on August 15, 2023, one day after our usual end-of-volume holiday!
