Chapter 3: Exploration

Style: Science Author: YalongWords: 5517Update Time: 24/01/12 23:06:26
Steve makes some big revelations. The first one is simple and seems to be nothing more than some quality of life brought about by the system. For example, being able to customize his window to some extent, deciding how his skills are sorted or what his status shows. Currently, he doesn't really care about skill categories because he has so few, although he does add skill points and gold to the bottom of the stat meter.

Now, the second thing he discovered was an entirely different beast. He can obviously develop these statistics through physical or mental training. But he already had some ideas.

Raw muscle represents strength, general health represents vitality, endurance represents agility, and simple speed or flexibility represents agility. Nowadays, psychological statistics are harder to figure out. He thought it might just be learning for the intellect's sake and pushing himself forward when his stamina ran out of willpower.

But there are still problems with training. Physical training requires movement and exercise. These all require endurance, and he doesn't have enough endurance yet, so it's basically impossible. As for spiritual training, he would have to wait and see. He doesn't have any resources, so he can't learn entirely from books. Meditation is basically his only option.

For example, the "Shop" allows him to buy another slot for 1,000 gold coins, which is already very good, but he can also choose to spend 500 skill points, or 30 ability points. For now, those goals seemed far away and the points could be put to better use, so he decided to try and save gold for them.

His Sp has also recovered somewhat. With his stomach full, he didn't feel like hunting, so he had to figure out how to spend his remaining waking hours. It really didn’t take long to make the decision. Of course, evaluate his remaining skills and try to increase his intelligence for more mana!

[: A skill that reduces the noise produced by the user. The higher its level, the quieter it is for the user. ]

[: A skill that explosively increases the user's speed. Consumes a percentile of total Sp, rather than a set amount. ]

These two skills are definitely very useful skills. With this, he can hunt on his own and escape from predators if necessary. Well, that's good news. Now, proceed to the next step.

He must rest to regain Hp, Sp, and Mp, though once his MP is back, he spends them on further strengthening his log. So, what else can he do to hopefully improve his statistics? meditate. He has no real resources here except a little space, so reading is out of the question, and using moral dilemmas to improve his intelligence seems a bit silly, so he meditates instead.

Unfortunately, he had never meditated, so everything had to be done step by step. Hopefully the time he spends diverting his attention while staring at a screen at work will help here.

So, first get into a position that's right for it. As a kitten, he couldn't sit fully cross-legged, so now he just lays down as comfortable as possible.

Then, adjust your breathing. Breathe deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth. In and out. Then he should try to feel the world around him more clearly...

A message whispered in his mind, though he could barely hear it now. The feeling was so different from anything he had ever felt in his life. It was like a gentle wind blew over his skin, wrapped around him, slowly passed through his outer shell, entered his body, and then settled down, condensing into a puddle, and adding another small drop of water.

[Gain 1 experience point]

The notification rang again, this time quieter than last time. The feeling was incredible, far more incredible than any physical strength. He could feel the mana around him, feel the blanket it wrapped around him, cool and warm at the same time.

He could feel how alive it was, an electric sensation that made every hair on his skin stand on end, and he opened his eyes.

[Gain 1 experience point]

[Maximum MP increases by 1. ]

Wow. This is awesome. Oh my god. Wow, just... wow. Damn it. The feeling is more real than any adrenaline rush. More exciting than a roller coaster and more satisfying than a cake. status?

MP: 2/5

His maximum MP does increase by 1. This is another interesting feeling. He hasn't played many RPGs, but see those numbers go up when they actually describe him instead of the character? crazy.

[Maximum MP increases by 1. ]

[MP is full. Unable to absorb more mana. ]

[Acquire skills through specific actions. ]

So he ends up with 6 Max Mp and a new skill.

Regardless, if he compares his current mana to his starting mana, his cap has increased by about half. It felt a little crazy, to be honest, but he certainly wasn't complaining. Now, what about this new skill?

[: This skill increases MP recovery speed. When used aggressively, it further increases regeneration speed and gains more mastery. ]

proficient? What about new terminology?

[Mastery: Obtained when using a certain skill. It helps increase the level of that skill. ]

So it is essentially skill experience. interesting. Definitely a very useful skill so he should try to upgrade it, luckily he already knows how to spend his MP. Time to carve another rune!

Begin carving the wood on the reverse side of the previous rune, carving out each line slowly and carefully. He decided to use low-level runes because high-level runes were too easy to fail. With this, there's not nearly as much risk, the chance of failure is around 20%,

Well, that's half speculation and half the feeling he gets from his skills. Sure enough, after a while, after he finished speaking, the notification rang.

[Successfully carved a lower-level strengthening rune. Gain: 10 experience points. ]

[upgrade! ]

ah? Another upgrade? Damn good news! yes! status!

What an improvement. It may not have the effect of an overall upgrade, but his intelligence is doubled from the level itself. He still has three skill points and a hundred skill points to spend. In addition, he was finally completely reborn. He's getting better!

Now that he's seeing his numbers improve, he's slowly getting into it. This log will be the beginning of everything, the starting point of his empire!

Of course the cat part of him thinks this should be his empire!

Just like that, a kitten meowed crazily while scratching the inside of an old dead tree.

Really threatening.

Now he'll use abilities as quickly as possible to create a safe place for himself to rest, and once he's established that, he'll manually expand his mana pool and spend that mana on additional runes or other abilities. Shortly after completing the third rune, he lay down to meditate again, but when he was about to use the skill, he closed his eyes and fell asleep.

When he opened his eyes again, it was already evening and the sun had covered about two-thirds of the sky. Of course, though he couldn't tell that from the logs. No, his attention was occupied by the information in front of him.

[Main mission: "Survive the first day!" Completely. You have obtained: 2 ability points, 50 skill points, 50 experience points]

[Main mission: "Conquer the forest!" added.

[Side Quest: "Reach Level 5!" Added.

Reward: 100 skill points, 100 gold coins. ]

He has apparently completed and been given a new assignment. He already knew there were random,

By completing tasks, he can earn extra points and coins. Apparently, the main mission even has smaller missions designed to achieve the final goal.

[Tasks: These are tasks that upon completion will bring rewards to the individual. Some can be declined and some must be completed. ]

That's all. They are tasks, which is pretty basic information. It's almost as basic as him evaluating things like runes or trees. It has an absolutely amazing ability to spit out information such as:

[tree: a tree. ]

or

[Rune: strengthening rune. ]

The truly incredible stuff is right there. It is basically useless to identify things outside the interface. Now even the explanation of things inside the system is unreliable. He sighed softly. While that was unfortunate, he couldn't completely change it. On top of that, his stomach was growling. Well, he can't quite eat the wood, it's time to get out.

In fact, the afternoon sun feels very comfortable on the fur. He closed his eyes and stretched as much as he could, then opened them and stared into the forest. Things are a little different today. It looks a little more dynamic. The grass looked a little brighter and the air was filled with the buzz of insects.

A butterfly was perched on a tree a few steps away from him.

As he looked around on the floor, he could see an ant colony not far from here, carrying some leaves and needles from the trees. Then, looking a little further away, he could even see a deer, although that probably wasn't what he wanted to hunt. No, he needs prey that he can actually capture, preferably rats, although he will also capture moles and the like.

After only a short walk, he spotted a rat scurrying across the forest floor, and even less time to jump onto it once he found it.

[Kill a mouse. Obtained: 5 experience points, 1 gold coin. ]

After the first rat, Steve decided to hunt down the second rat so that he would have food for the day. hope. If there were enough, he could concentrate on carving runes all day long and make his current home stronger.

The second mouse took longer and tried a few times, but after a while he succeeded.

[Kill a mouse. Obtained: 5 experience points, 1 gold coin. ]

[upgrade! ]

What? Upgraded? Well, the experience of the Discovery Tour may have brought him very close to that goal.

Very satisfied. As the physical attributes improve, oneself grow. Overall, improving his numbers is a good thing.

Having made his decision, he placed the mouse in his slot and started heading towards the small pond he found. Now that the bear drank from it, he was almost halfway there in terms of the water being drinkable. Fortunately, this time the bear was not nearby and he hurried to the lake, drank until he was no longer thirsty, and then returned to the log.

This was the first time since his rebirth that he was really looking forward to something. Before you know it, carving runes has become a bit of fun. He enjoys knowing that he has created something solid and tangible, and improved upon it. For him, at least, it was a joy to have a little impact on the world.

So, after returning home, he began to carve two more primary runes. This was actually his first failure, with a total of 7 successes and 1 failure. Oh well, not bad, retrying the rune doesn't kill him, but unfortunately he only gets half the experience. Anyway, meditate now.

[Upgraded! ]

The speed of his mana gathering seemed to increase a little more. When he opened his eyes again after adding MP, he understood why. Although not very effective, Meditation's upgrades are still great. "More mana, more runes",

After the meditation, he carved two more runes and succeeded, when another notification appeared.

[Successfully carved a lower-level strengthening rune. Gain: 10 experience points]

[Already upgraded! ]

Astonishing! With his MP depleted, Steve immediately started meditating again.

At night, after repeating the process several times, he drew six more runes on the wall. They should be strong now, right? Well, he'll go see it when it rains anyway.

Now, he thought that was the end of the night, when he heard a loud bang outside his little house and a mission popped up.

[Random mission: "Kill the giant spider!" added. Reward: 20 experience points, 50 gold coins. accept? ]

If he doesn't fight, he has to hand over his wood to this eight-legged bastard. Absolutely impossible. But to take down a spider his size, he needed to be surprised, so he took a few deep breaths.

The spider began to move its hairy legs in front of the opening in the log. His thought process is quite simple. The spider has eight eyes and eight legs on the front. It also has its webbing. But none of that can actually reach his back, right? So, all he had to do was step on the spider from above and beat it to death. Luckily, it's big. If it's small, he'll be more scared. I have no idea where those little guys are hiding!

Steve exited the log from the other end, backed up silently, and jumped onto the log. From the ground, it was absolutely impossible for him to reach even the lowest branches. After some stealth, he pounced.

Using his jump, he landed right on the spider's back and dug his claws deep into it. He was left with two long gashes before the spider began to shake itself, trying to shake him off. He tightened his grip for a moment, but soon loosened it, his claws leaving gashes on the spider's back as it slipped away.

Steve landed hard on the forest floor, but quickly regained his position. His ribs weren't too excited from just hitting the floor, but he endured it. When the eyes of the eight spiders were focused on him, he knew he had no chance in a simple duel of strength, so he chose the path truly suitable for someone like him: escape.

Before the spider could try to attack him with its webs, he turned and sprinted away at full speed. He may not be strong, but he is definitely faster, and he is injured and may bleed out soon.

Now, Steve may be an idiot, but he's not stupid. After escaping, he approached again to see where the spider was. Sure enough, it didn't move very far. It was a little further up the mountain, with few trees around, so there was no chance of an ambush. There was pus oozing from the wounds on its back, but it didn't look like it was going to die anytime soon.

He must avoid the spider's silk and fangs at all costs. If he gets tied up or bitten, he'll die, which isn't cool. By the way, what is his weapon? His claws can't throw anything at it, so his only option is melee combat. If he approached it from the side it would turn, if he approached it from behind he had to deal with its webbing but would be hidden, from the front he had to deal with its fangs. So his only options are up and back,

Now, he was standing slightly below the spider. Fortunately, most of them have their backs to the mountains, so maybe they can sneak in again. He circled it slowly, relying on intuition and overwhelm, until he reached his destination. Spider's back.

[Acquire skills through specific actions. ]

Steve immediately used the skill and his steps became quieter. He would take his time later, for now he focused on getting closer to the spider and jumping onto its back. This time, he jumped further and dug his claws into the spider's eyes.

The spider was running quickly along the forest floor now, but it didn't shake him off. Now that it was blind, he was able to hold on and dig with his claws until it went limp.

[Kill a giant spider. Gain: 100 experience points, 50 gold coins, spider venom (consumable). ]

[Random mission "Kill the giant spider." Totally! You have received: 20 experience points, 50 gold coins. ]

[upgrade! ]

After receiving the upgrade message, I immediately felt much more refreshed than before.

[Side mission "Reach level 5!" Complete. You have obtained: 100 skill points, 100 gold coins. ]

[Side mission "Build a small territory!" added. Reward: 100 experience points, 50 gold coins. ]

Well, stay strong! It's time to go home and see the reward.

He swapped the rat carcasses in his inventory for vials, opting to haul far less dangerous items. Then he took it in his mouth and walked back to the log.

The sun was rising and Steve felt exhausted. The fight wasn't intense, of course, but as he pushed down his disgust, he felt the human part of him rebel in his mind. Instead, he just flopped onto the ground on the log and closed his eyes.
