Chapter 28 – Spear

“People forget that samurai are human too.

In fact, they forget that they are often young. The average age to become a pioneer is seventeen. That's... that's too young. I was only thirteen years old.

In most places, young people are not allowed to drink alcohol and can buy anything from sources beyond their control. The government no longer taxes you, but they also want you to work for them. Companies slyly approach, ready to try and lock you into a contract.

Your worth is determined by how many people you can kill.

Killing the alien is easy. Pretty clean. They are just monsters. It becomes a game. So interesting.

What makes things difficult are the people you need to deal with. "

I wonder what leaked information? . Maybe it was my sigh, or the way I raised my gun and pointed it at the ceiling. Maybe they had noticed that I noticed them.

It doesn't matter.

A foot-long bone spur penetrated the heads of the two people in the middle of the Bu group, and more than a dozen tentacles fell from above, grabbing the necks and arms.

The lights fell and others rose toward the ceiling, revealing two...no, three Alien Beast Fours near the top of the stairs. Screams ensued.

Jeff raised his pistol into the air and fired all the bullets in the magazine into one of the monsters. Moments later, Storm began shooting as well.

The noise in the narrow stairwell was unbelievable, complete with frantic screams.

One of the aliens fell from above and hit someone below.

The stairs here run along the walls, with small landings at each corner. This is more or less where Model Four is hiding. Two of them couldn't even reach anyone at first, until they fell hard and started waving their limbs at everyone.

I raised my gun and aimed at the nearest monster. My aim was derailed when someone pushed me.

The heel of my shoe slipped off the step I was on, and I somersaulted before I could get up. I stumbled backwards as another idiot bumped into me, my gun flying away as I grabbed the nearest railing for support.

Someone stepped on me, someone fell down the stairs, rolled off my back and fell to the ground.

I couldn't find my gun, in almost total darkness lit only by wildly flickering lights. "Gun!" I said.

Do you have anything special you need?

I turned over and lay on my back. When I looked up, I saw a black figure walking awkwardly towards me from the stairs. Monsters, one of which was grabbing a woman I saw in the bathroom. As it stumbled down the stairs on all fours, she hit her head on the wall.

"Gun!" I screamed.

My hands were filled with something heavy and cold. I raised it and saw a large circle of light in front of me, coming from directly underneath a thick barrel. I kept my finger on the trigger again and again while wishing this thing didn't have a damn safety.

Gunfire roared.

I frowned as it almost escaped, and a beam of bullets leapt forward, sewing a row of holes in Alien Ghost Four's body.

It lurched forward, its twitching tentacles pinning me to the steps, and I pushed it away with all my strength. The woman, or rather her body, fell next to me. I cringed at this, but I didn't have time to panic.

There are more monsters in the room. Storm held a pointed tentacle in each hand and kicked it out at the same time.

Another alien is throwing a man down the middle of a stairwell.

I aimed at that one first, gripping the new gun tightly. It screamed, and dozens of bullets sprayed out from it.

A little off, ha, only half of the bullet splash made it to the alien's center of mass. Enough to make it dead.

I moved on to the next one and pulled the trigger. Two, maybe three rounds were fired and the gun went off.

forget it!

I did, and the gun's light swirled until it crashed to the floor below.

After a while, a new, smaller gun appeared in my hand, and a new reticle flashed red, locking on the last strange creature.

Two rounds of four micro-missiles flew through the space between me and the monster.

I heard eight satisfying cracks and saw the beast shudder. It slid to the side and died.

Storm staggered back. His breathing was rapid and his hair was soaked with sweat. He tossed aside the tentacle he still held in disgust. "damn it."

that's all.

I moved past him, past the bodies of the four or five people we were with, and up the stairs. The door at the top opens into a hallway. At least this one was intact, but the lights on the ceiling were all broken. A ray of light came from the door and window at the end of the corridor.

I raised my head, then stared at every shadow along the ceiling and floor.

It seems clear.

I didn't take any chances and closed the door.

"Jeff! Jeff you idiot—stand up, come on, man."

I gritted my teeth and stared at the closed door.

"Jeff!"

I swallowed and turned around. One look at Jeff and you knew he was dead. A nail driven through the skull does this.

But others…

"Myalis, I need medical care, just give me whatever, fuck those scores,"

I see. The sooner we start, the more lives we can potentially save.

"Yeah yeah."

I stumbled to the first spot, knelt down, and despite the pain all over my body, got to work.

I'm not equipped to deal with that, but there's no one else around, right?
