In terms of architectural specifications, "The Rites of Zhou" stipulates that the emperor has five gates and the princes have three gates, which symbolizes respect for the order of etiquette. The five gates are Gaomen, Kumen, Zhimen, Yingmen and Lumen. Compared with the emperor's palace, the palaces of princes and kings lacked Kumen and Zhimen. The emperor and the princes all had three dynasties, namely the Wai Dynasty, the Zhi Dynasty and the Yan Dynasty. Each dynasty had a group of representative buildings.
The Sui Dynasty strictly followed this rule when it built the Daxing Palace. However, the princes' palaces actually only had three gates and two dynasties. The three gates were the prescribed Gaomen, Yingmen, and Lumen, and the two dynasties were the outer dynasty and the governing dynasty; like Wei The outer court of the palace is the Xuanwu Hall, the main hall, and the Yingwu Hall, the secondary hall. As for the regulations, the Yan Dynasty was shrunk to the Mingde Hall in the back garden. From here on, it is already the residence of the family members, and ordinary people cannot enter. Therefore, the Yan Dynasty was only a symbol in the palace, and the Mingde Hall representing the Yan Dynasty was reduced to a huge study room.
Since there are no major celebrations in the palace, Xuanwu Hall, the main hall representing the outer dynasties, has been reduced to a decoration. The side halls on both sides of the main hall that are really useful and used for office work, and the role of Yingwu Hall, which is used to handle daily affairs as stipulated, have been further weakened and become A place to receive close friends and distinguished guests.
This is not only true of Prince Wei's Mansion, but also of other Princes, County Princes' Mansions, and Duke's Mansions. This is not something that everyone deliberately avoids, but is done out of convenience, practicality, and other factors.
In the spacious courtyard to the west of the Yingwu Hall building complex, there is a rolling mountain with luxuriant precious flowers and trees, dozens of pines and cypresses, ginkgo trees, and thousands of bamboo poles. It is surrounded by green water at the bottom of the mountain. There is an octagonal pavilion in a lower place. .
There is a rushing stream next to the pavilion. A waterwheel driven by water rotates in circles. Bamboo tubes pour the stream water on an elevated wooden trough. The stream water is poured along the wooden trough. On the umbrella-shaped roof of the pavilion, it spreads in all directions, and then falls from the rain eaves in all directions like a curtain. Except for the front where the wooden trough is hung, crystal clear rain curtains are formed in all other directions, making the pavilion extremely cool. , the temperature is completely different from that outside the pavilion, which was attacked by the autumn tiger.
This is the crystallization of wisdom used by skilled craftsmen to escape the heat. Almost every wealthy family has one. There are more than a dozen of Prince Wei's mansions covering an area of hundreds of acres. If it is really hot weather, Yang Ji will sleep in the pavilion in the back garden. .
The pavilion in Yingwu Hall is now where Yang Ji works during the day and takes a lunch break.
Hanging in the pavilion are strings of fragrant beads made of precious spices and wood, as well as sachets made of fragrant flowers such as jasmine and jasmine. The curtains made of these fragrant beads and fragrant flowers can block mosquitoes and flies, and can send bursts of fragrance with the wind. It's so refreshing.
At the end of the next day, Yang Ji splashed ink in the pavilion and wrote a very boring calligraphy. The content is: "Officials do not fear my strictness but fear my integrity. The people do not obey my ability but obey my father. Integrity will lead to officials not being honest." Dare to be arrogant, and the people will not dare to bully the public. Publicity breeds enlightenment, and integrity breeds prestige."
Before writing, Li Daliang looked solemnly at the calligraphy called "Official Admonition". The font was Zhao Mengfu's "Zhao Ti", which Yang Ji was best at. This font was charming, elegant, neat and well-structured. Between the running script and regular script, it appears to be flowing and moving, yet solemn and gentle. Each character has a round and square frame, flowing and flowing brushwork. It can be said that the brushwork is unique and every word is beautiful. The content of "Guan Zhen" is full of warnings and medicinal stones. It explains the most important fundamental principles of fairness and integrity for officials.
The content of just thirty-six words made Li Daliang suddenly realize from it, and he said with emotion: "Master, this "Guan Zhi" seems simple, but in fact it is extremely difficult. It is easy to understand, but it is not easy to do it. Just because Being a good official is just about being fair and honest. But if you take into account the seven emotions, six desires, and thousands of selfish thoughts, very few people can deny their relatives."
"I believe you can do it. If you like it, take it." Yang Ji chuckled. In history, Li Daliang was taken to the same level as Li Jing and Li Ji. This shows the actual role of this unknown general. Quite large, far beyond his low-key reputation.
Needless to say, there is no need to mention his achievements, but what Yang Ji admires the most is Li Daliang's impartiality, integrity and selflessness. When he was the governor of Liangzhou, he caught Xuanzang who was about to go westward; regardless of Xuanzang's talk about Bodhisattva's dreams and Buddha's apparitions. , Buddhism is boundless, and he still sensationally talked about the chaos of Buddhism in the Central Plains, the numerous sects, the constant disputes, and his great vows. However, Li Daliang ignored them and ordered Xuanzang to stop his westward journey and return to Daxing (Chang'an) immediately, otherwise he would be punished for collaborating with the enemy. , and finally forced Xuanzang to sneak out of the country and take the most difficult and dangerous road.
After Li Daliang passed away, when his family dressed him and put him in his coffin, they found that they could not bring out a piece of pearls and jade for him to put in his mouth. They could only put five bushels of rice and thirty pieces of cloth.
Li Daliang's incorruptibility is comparable to that of Wei Zheng, but because Wei Zheng has the "human mirror" bonus of mutual success, his reputation for incorruptibility far exceeds that of Li Daliang.
"Thank you for your advice, young master. I will frame this calligraphy when I return from my humble job and hang it in the study." Li Daliang said happily.
"Encourage each other!" Yang Ji laughed and said: "Actually, fairness, justice and honesty are only a good side, but there are also bad sides."
Li Daliang said in astonishment: "What's wrong with being fair, impartial, and honest?"
"Fairness, justice, and integrity are good, but they have also caused some officials to develop the idea of cherishing feathers and believe in the principle of doing more and making more mistakes, doing less and making fewer mistakes, and not doing anything right. Such officials are doing nothing in the local area. Sitting in a latrine and not taking a shit will do more harm to the local area than corrupt officials."
"Young Master, I disagree." Li Daliang shook his head and said: "Corrupt officials are the beetles of the country, because they have overthrown many ancient dynasties, and everyone can punish them! And honest officials who serve the public are actually the blessing of all people. , how can the young master put the cart before the horse and fail to distinguish right from wrong?"
Yang Ji said lightly: "Liang Zai, you are still young and don't understand the difficulties and dangers of the world. This world is not black and white as you imagined. It is filled with too many dirty gray areas where black and white cannot be distinguished."
"Young Master, I am already eighteen years old. Please call me by my first name from now on and stop calling me Liangzai." Li Daliang corrected him seriously.
"Okay Liangzai." Yang Ji said he remembered.
Li Daliang nodded, not realizing the ambiguity of Yang Ji's words. He asked: "Sir, why do you think that honest officials who cherish their feathers and do nothing are less beneficial to the people than corrupt officials who are greedy and evil?"
"There is no absolute good or evil in the world, nor is there absolute right and wrong. Sometimes good intentions can do bad things, and bad people are not useless." Yang Ji said: "Innocent officials who do nothing do nothing and do not help the people create benefits. , did not help the people earn a penny; and corrupt officials are willing to do things, because only when the people are rich can he be corrupt. For example, he helped the people create ten pennies, embezzled seven pennies himself, and the people still had three pennies. .Then the question arises, do you think the people like an honest official who brings them suffering, or do they like a corrupt official who helps them create three million yuan in profits?"
"???" Li Daliang felt a little confused.
Yang Ji shook his head. This is indeed embarrassing. If he continues to talk, he will be suspected of teaching corrupt officials.
Li Daliang was also about to argue with Yang Ji about "the issue of non-honest officials and corrupt officials", but a handsome Zhang Chuchen came to the door and reported: "Sir, we have a visitor."
People who know Yang Ji call him in different ways. The elders of the royal family and their older peers call him by his nickname, the younger one is called "Brother", and the younger ones are called "Uncle/Uncle Wang"; in the mansion, people like Gongsun Huan and Li People close to him such as Daliang call him "Gongzi", those who are further away call him "His Highness", disciples and the like call him "King", and outsiders call him "King/King Wei". As for Zhang Chuchen, the new maids were placed in the back garden, so they were called "Young Master" along with the other maids.
Yang Ji didn't take these random names to heart, as long as they were not curse words. When he heard that a visitor was coming, he asked, "Who is here?"
Zhang Chuchen handed over a name card and said, "Liu Zhuo from Xindu."
Yang Ji was overjoyed and said, "Please come quickly!"
Liu Zhuo was a master of Confucian classics in the Sui Dynasty. He and Liangzhou scholar Cao Liuxuan were called "Er Liu". "Er Liu" were not Confucian scholars who knew only Confucian classics, but talented masters who were proficient in hundreds of schools of thought. Writings are just something they create to survive.
These two people are incredibly smart, especially Liu Xuan. Besides being able to draw squares with his left hand and circles with his right hand, he can also recite orally, count with his eyes, and listen with his ears. This kind of ability is so exaggerated that it doesn't even look like a martial arts person. Zhou Botong, Guo Jing, and Xiao Longnu among them are not as good as others. It is also because the two of them are poor scholars. If they were born in the five surnames, seven sects, etc., they would have been touted as the great Sui emperors.
The two men were of low origin, had high knowledge and extensive experience, and were envied by the masters touted by aristocratic families. However, the "Er Liu" did not give in to these "great Confucians" and always insisted on their correct opinions. , always used his rich knowledge and insights to make all kinds of "pseudo-great Confucians" look ugly, so they were blocked by "great Confucians" with profound backgrounds from all walks of life.
Those people not only did not agree with the "Er Liu", but also used their family power and followers all over the world to smear the "Er Liu" as a corrupt, unscrupulous and heinous person. In the end, the "Er Liu" lost his official position and reputation. It stinks.
But this does not mean that Yang Jian gave up on the "two Lius". He first appointed Liu Xuan as Liangzhou Shicao, and later appointed Liu Zhuo as Taishi Sishi and Yunqiwei.
Among Liu Zhuo's many common senses, he was especially good at astronomy. He discovered that there were many errors in the calendar, suggested modifications many times, and created the "Huangji Calendar". For the first time, he used the uneven motion of the sun to create the "equidistance quadratic calendar". Interpolation method formula" to calculate the speed of the sun, moon and five stars. This is more precise than before. "Dingshuo method" and "Dingqi method" are also his creations.
These astronomical views and "Huangji Li", a great astronomical work that enjoys a high status in history, are now being rejected because they conflict with the views of Taishi Ling Zhang Zhouxuan. Liu Zhuo, who insists on his own views, is unsurprisingly once again He was not tolerated by the group and was dismissed again.
Liu Zhuo once again lost to the officialdom and the world. Now he was not only disheartened, but also very weak because his family was so poor that they were about to run out of food, and the rice they ate was so bland that you could see the porridge at the bottom of the bowl.
This visit was not because he still had thoughts about his official career, nor was he just trying to make ends meet, but because he wanted Yang Ji to help him take his academic works to Liangzhou and give them to Liu Xuan, a like-minded friend and confidant.
Of course, he didn't expect Yang Ji to receive the notorious himself, but to his surprise, Yang Ji invited him into the house.
Liu Zhuo, who is fifty-nine this year, has gray hair and is wearing linen clothes that have been washed and turned white. He was led by Zhang Chuchen to the pavilion and saluted: "Common people see you, the king."
"Mr. Liu, no courtesy, please sit down!" Yang Jisu gestured with his hand.
"Thank you, Your Majesty!" Liu Zhuo sat down.
Yang Ji's eyes were sharp. When Liu Zhuo sat down, he saw at a glance his old boots with threads coming off and many patches on them. Liu Zhuo felt embarrassed, clasped his fists and smiled bitterly: "It's not just common people who are careless and ungrateful. But the other pair of boots were washed and not yet dried, so I had to wear these old boots. Please forgive me, Your Majesty."
Whether the guest's clothes are good or bad, and whether they are decent or not, represents the respect the guest has for the host, so Liu Zhuo said this.
"It doesn't matter!" Yang Ji sighed in his heart. After all, Liu Zhuo was the chief historian of Taishi, and there was also a literary official named Yun Duwei. Although both of them were not high, when added together, they had a salary that was not low every year. Why? So down and out?
Liu Zhuo also knew that this was unjustifiable, and sighed: "Although the family has equal land, the harvest in the past two years has not been good, and he cannot bear to force the tenants. In addition, the common people are good at books, so almost all the salary is spent on bookstores. Alas! Of course it’s embarrassing to say.”
Yang Ji listened in awe and comforted him: "Everyone has their own moments when they are not what they want. Sir, there is no need to be embarrassed. With your talent, is it not easy to make money to support your family? As long as you accept apprentices and teach, you can solve this problem." Problem. It’s not that you don’t have the ability to make money, it’s just that you don’t want to.”
"To be honest with you, your Majesty, after being dismissed from office this time, Cao Min plans to return to his hometown to teach apprentices in Lu, and devote himself to educating people and writing." Liu Zhuo pondered for a moment, and then asked: "Your Majesty, I don't know Brother Guang Bo (Liu Xuan's courtesy name Guang) How are you doing now?"
"He is now serving as the official scholar of Liangzhou. In order to educate the Qiang people and other races, the sage asked me to establish an official school in Liangzhou and promote Chinese studies. Therefore, I plan to let Liu Shicao also serve as the official minister of Liangzhou."
When Yang Ji said this, he said to Liu Zhuo: "It's just that he is quite busy with his affairs, and everything is difficult at the beginning. I'm afraid it will be difficult for one person to handle it. I want to bring a few masters from the capital to help, but there is no one at the moment." A good candidate. Sir, if you are free at home now, you might as well follow me to Liangzhou, so that you can not only improve the classics with Liu Shicao, but also educate people to write. It can be said to kill two birds with one stone."
Liu Zhuo's heart was pounding when he heard this, but after pondering for a moment, he shook his head and said with a wry smile: "The common people appreciate your king's kindness and are very moved by it. However, the common people cannot bear this position."
As he spoke, he put aside the large square package he had brought and said: "In recent years, the grassroots have studied the "Nine Chapters of Arithmetic", "Zhou Bi Suan Jing", "Qi Yao Almanac" and other works related to the movement of the sun and the moon, and the geography of mountains and rivers. He conducted research and compiled "Ji Ji" and "Almanac"; he also compiled the "Five Classics Commentary" based on the theories of various schools, and I begged the king to tell Brother Guang Bo to correct it in his spare time."
Yang Ji looked at the big silk package and compared the clothes. He knew that Liu Zhuo valued the books in the package very much. However, he was more concerned about Liu Zhuo at this time, so he asked in confusion: "Why, sir?" Why don’t you want to go to Liangzhou to educate people? Wouldn’t it be better for you to get together and discuss it?”
Liu Zhuo said: "The grassroots have a bad reputation and are not tolerated in official circles or scholars. I don't want to cause more trouble to the king and Uncle Guang."
"What does it mean to be notorious?" Yang Ji sneered and shook his head. Since Liu Xuan was a well-known master and his subordinate, he knew very well why "second Liu" was not allowed in official circles and scholars, and sneered. : "Since the pre-Qin Dynasty, there have been few people who are more knowledgeable and proficient in Confucianism than you and Liu Shicao. It can be said that if you two were descendants of the Kong family or the five surnames and seven sects, your fame and status would definitely be higher than those of the people living in the world today. Zheng Xuan at the end of the Han Dynasty. Why can't you even hold the title of Taishi Sili who is from the ninth rank? It's because you are a poor scholar, and it's because your abilities and achievements have surpassed all the 'great scholars' forged by aristocratic families, but you also You are unwilling to admit what they cannot put on the table against your will, so they use their influence and mouthpiece to discredit you, making it impossible for you to gain a foothold in official circles and scholars; if you are willing to surrender to them and cheer for them regardless of right or wrong, then you are a Confucian Taoist. The reputation of a "grandmaster" can spread all over the world in one day. Even if you are a saint, you cannot be denied the corresponding official position and status. But neither you nor Liu Shicao have it, so you have fallen to this point. If they would do it now I’m writing a biography for you two, I’m afraid you don’t even know it’s you who are written in it.”
At this point, Yang Ji said to Li Daliang who was standing by: "The reputation of the two Mr. Liu today is the result of being forced to stick to their principles, maintain their original intentions, and are unwilling to associate with dirty gray forces; from This also shows that it is extremely difficult for a good official to overcome all difficulties and never forget his original intention of being fair and honest."
"Since the two Mr. Liu can do it, I think I can too." Li Daliang said solemnly.
"I'll wait and see!"
Yang Ji nodded, and said solemnly to Liu Zhuo: "Mr. Liu, what I want is real and effective knowledge, the original intention of various classics, not things misinterpreted by others. Only by using this knowledge to educate People will not mislead their children or cause harm to future generations. As for other things, I don’t care. All of these are equally beneficial to the country and the people. Isn’t this your always aspiration? "
When he came to this point, Liu Zhuo stopped being reserved, stood up, and bowed deeply: "In this case, the ordinary people will stop being pretentious and are willing to use their residual body to help the king."
"That's it!" Yang Ji said with a smile: "I am the general manager of Liangzhou, and I will go to Liangzhou soon to govern the place. However, the general manager's office has never been equipped with all the assistant officials. Many people have multiple positions. I will Explain your situation to the saint.”
"Thank you, Your Majesty." Liu Zhuo knew that although the general managers of each general office did not have the power to appoint or remove, they could recommend assistant officers other than Chang Shi, Sima, and various Cao Cao, such as Cheng, Du Shi, Kao Gong, etc. under the Cao Cao. Moreover, Liangzhou is the palace of the general manager, and the rank of the assistant officials is not low.
"I am the one who wants to thank you!" Yang Ji said, "Because the interpretation of the Five Classics by you and Liu Shicao is what I urgently need."
From the time Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty adopted Dong Zhongshu's suggestion to "depose hundreds of schools of thought and respect Confucianism alone," the official ideology was that Confucianism was the only one to be respected, and all other thoughts were banned. However, this thought is not the original form of Confucianism during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Instead, Dong Zhongshu took Confucianism as the core and incorporated some thoughts from Taoism, Dharma, Mohism, Yin-Yang and Five Elements, etc., based on the cultural background and era background at that time, and embodied Confucianism. Its "compatibility" and "development" characteristics eventually formed "New Confucianism".
When Confucianism formed a situation where Confucianism dominated the world, there were divergent opinions within Confucianism when interpreting the classics of the ancestors, thus forming many schools with different opinions. Some schools were even contradictory and opposed, and eventually turned against each other.
The "Book of Songs" among the Five Classics is divided into three schools: Qi, Lu and Han; "Shangshu" is divided into Ouyang and Xiaoxiahou; "Li" includes "Rites", "Book of Rites" and "Book of Zhou", among which "Book of Rites" It is also divided into large and small Dai schools; "Book of Changes" is divided into four schools: Shi, Meng, Jing, and Liangqiu; "Spring and Autumn" is divided into Gongyang and Gu Erzhuan; Gongyang school also has Yan and Yan schools.
In the history of Confucian classics, these major differences are called "discipline".
Later, the Confucian classics masters derived new doctrines under the banner of "Shifa". Since the families of the Confucian classics masters used their speeches to educate future generations, this was also called "Family Fa", and "Family Fa" was further divided into Various heresies. The entire Confucian system is like a tree trunk branching off, branch after branch, mostly far from the root, and the meaning of the scriptures difficult to understand.
In the end, each school hoped to unify the doctrine and return Confucianism to its origin. Therefore, before the Sui Dynasty, there were three grand gatherings for discussing Confucianism. The first was the Shiqu Pavilion Meeting during the reign of Emperor Xuan of the Western Han Dynasty; the second was the White Tiger View discussion of Emperor Zhang of the Eastern Han Dynasty; Zheng Xuan annotated Qun Sutra all over the place.
The Shiquge gathering mainly discussed the issue of the plethora of internal theories. However, the result of the discussion was not only that there was no unified point of view, but also intensified the emergence of internal heterodoxy within Confucian classics. The Baihuguan gathering focused on discussing the differences between modern and ancient texts, and the result was the "White Tiger Tongyi". Focusing on Dong Zhongshu's superstition of heaven and man's telepathy and prophecies, without correcting the excellent content of the ancient scriptures, not only failed to achieve the purpose of unifying the academic world, but also aggravated the status of superstitious ideas in Confucianism, and Dong Zhongshu's heaven and man's telepathy was used to restrain the monarchy. Doctrine has also been changed beyond recognition.
This situation did not matter in the war-torn Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties. Everyone focused on unifying the world, and no emperor cared about this. However, after the Sui Dynasty unified the world, Yang Jian established prefecture-level schools to educate scholars, and in the seventh year of the founding of the Emperor, he stipulated that each state should send three outstanding students to the central government to study at the Imperial College. However, an embarrassing scene immediately appeared.
The first is to run a school. Running a school is very easy, but there is no unified interpretation to use as teaching materials. When hundreds of teachers face a scripture, they will come up with a hundred ways of interpretation, which brings huge trouble to education.
Secondly, Yang Jian ordered the Imperial Academy students to take the exams for Xiucai and Mingjing, and prepared to select the best. However, the answers written by the candidates were all correct, and no one was correct. The marking officials who had different views could not agree on it. In the end, they were unable to score. Unable to judge A, B, C and D.
Yang Jian was so angry that he immediately summoned the world's great scholars to gather in Daxing City, and ordered the secretarial provincial officials responsible for revising the classics and organizing books to debate with the world's great scholars. The interpretations of the classics revised by the secretarial provincial officials were further improved in the debate with the great scholars, and finally The purpose is to unify the various interpretations, unify teaching materials for education, and unify answers for scholars, so as to avoid the appearance of one sutra meaning and dozens or hundreds of answers that are all correct and incorrect.
The great success of the Sui Dynasty in literature and art was a bit like the contention of hundreds of schools of thought, so it is known as "the prosperity of Zhongzhou's elegance only lasted for a while since the Han and Wei dynasties."
Liu Zhuo's original intention in compiling the "Five Classics Commentaries" originated from this.
Liu Xuan's achievements in Confucian classics are even more remarkable. He is the author of twelve volumes of "Five Classics Rectification of Names", ten volumes of "Analects of Confucius", forty volumes of "Spring and Autumn Annals", ten volumes of "Spring and Autumn Attacking Ambiguous", "Spring and Autumn Regulations" Three volumes of "Guo", five volumes of "Shuiyi of Xiao Jing", twenty volumes of "Shuyi" of Shangshu, forty volumes of "Shuyi of Mao Shi", one volume of "Preface to Poems" and other works, and revised "Five Rites" with other Confucian scholars. . Among them, the three volumes of "Chun Qiu Gui Guo" are works specifically to find faults with Du Yu's "Collected Commentary of Zuo Shi Jing Zhuan in Spring and Autumn Period". Du Yu was a minister with both civil and military skills in the Western Jin Dynasty. His "Collected Commentary" was popular in the Sui Dynasty. Authoritative works, Liu Xuan dares to challenge the authority, which can be described as a bold artist. However, all of his achievements convinced all the celebrities and classics masters who served in the government, and they all guaranteed that what he said was correct.
However, Liu Zhuo and Liu Xuan were not surnamed Liu, nor were they descended from aristocratic families. Therefore, their achievements in Confucian classics, astronomy, calendars, and arithmetic were not recognized by the academic community. However, later Kong Yingda, when he was ordered to write the "Five Classics of Justice", used Er Liu Yishu as the manuscript. As a result, because his surname was Kong, he easily became a great Confucian who will be remembered forever; and Li Chunfeng also relied on Liu Zhuo's "Huangji Calendar" created "Linder Calendar", which was promoted as one of the famous calendars.
Yang Ji himself had no ill feelings toward Confucianism.
Although Confucianism was said by some extremists in later generations to be the main culprit for China's lagging behind the West; it was a backward thought that imprisoned thought and hindered the development of natural sciences, Yang Ji always disagreed with this view.
After all, Confucianism has been the orthodox thought supported by the ruling class since the Han Dynasty. But why did the Han Dynasty not fall behind in science and technology? Why did the Sui Dynasty not lag behind in science and technology? Why did the Tang Dynasty not lag behind in science and technology? Why are the technological levels of the two Song Dynasties so high in the world? Why is the fleet of the Ming Dynasty proud of the ocean? Why did the Chinese dynasty, which admired the rule of virtue and the rule of law, take only a few decades to stand proudly in the world again... In the final analysis, it is the system created by the ruling class that is causing trouble, and it has nothing to do with the doctrines it believes in.
Confucianism itself is just a philosophy of life. It talks about how to live in the world, cultivate one's moral character, and guide people to be good ideologically. It is beneficial to individuals and social security. If all the people in the world do not have self-discipline, self-awareness, self-respect, self-love and other things that Confucianism advocates, Good thoughts, if everything must be forcibly restricted by laws, that would be the most tragic thing for a dynasty.
It was only the later Cheng-Zhu Neo-Confucianism that caused it to enter the nest and go to extremes. The eight-legged essay examination system in the Ming and Qing dynasties made people all over the world who wanted to become officials embark on the rigid path of rote memorization. This system is the imprisonment. The main culprit is thought, which has nothing to do with Confucianism.
Because of this, Yang Ji has no objection to Confucianism, which guides people to do good.
Most of the content comes from Er Liu Yishu's "Five Classics Justice". Since it has become a standard believed in for thousands of years, this also indirectly shows that Er Liu's annotations of the Five Classics are correct and can stand the test of time. They Yisheng is more reliable than other Confucian classics masters in the Sui Dynasty.
Since it was so reliable, how could Yang Ji abandon it? How is it possible to discard shortcomings and take advantage of strong points?
As for the fact that the academic community does not agree with the Yishu of Er Liu, in fact, it can be solved satisfactorily as long as the Confucius family agrees with it, and the condition for the Confucian family to agree with Er Liu's views may only be a title.
The Kong family's status in the Sui Dynasty was not high at all. On the one hand, they were members of the old forces of the Northern Qi Dynasty.
On the other hand, Yang Jian pays attention to governing the country according to law, and does not deliberately respect Confucianism or show favor to the Confucian family. Therefore, he has not canonized Confucius or the Confucian family. The purpose of his previous school was not to promote Confucianism or to promote Confucianism. With the development of Baijia, it has already become a Chinese cultural system in which you have me and you have me, and it is difficult to distinguish between you and me.
If you break it down to an individual, you cannot say that he is a member of a certain school. For example, Yang Su, he was at the top level in war, country governance, officialdom, diplomacy, poetry, calligraphy, and painting, and he even designed exquisite buildings. Drawing, which family can you put him into? So the key still lies with those in power. If those in power deliberately support Confucianism, those who seek profit will surely compete to identify themselves as children of Confucianism, otherwise it is really difficult to tell the difference.
If Yang Jian used the long-coveted and long-awaited title of the Kong family as a condition, it would be strange for them not to agree with Er Liu's correct righteousness.
For the imperial court, this resulted in more textbooks with unified content and unified examination answers. If they were not unified earlier, education and imperial examinations would still be stuck in textbook standards and answer standards, and would be unable to be promoted.
…
After greetings for a while, Yang Ji sent Liu Zhuo out of the door and said, "Sir, please don't worry, there will be results from the Ministry of Officials tomorrow."
Liu Zhuo couldn't say anything on this issue, so he could only hand it over and said: "The common people will wait for the news at home."
At this time, Li Daliang, who was ordered to prepare, hurriedly brought a horse with two jars of wine and a bulging horse bag on its back. Yang Ji took the reins and handed them to Liu Zhuo: "This is the horse for Mr. Wang. There are two jars of Western wine on the horse. Mr. Yu will take it to taste."
Liu Zhuo was overjoyed and thanked him repeatedly. Then he pointed at the horse bag and asked, "Is this...?"
Yang Ji said: "There are a hundred silver beads (one hundred taels) in the horse bag, which are also the settlement allowance for the husband."
Liu Zhuo was stunned: "Settlement allowance?"
"Exactly!" Yang Ji said jokingly: "Sir, now that he has no worries, he can help me with peace of mind in Liangzhou. In this way, the efficiency of work will naturally be greatly increased. This is also one of my selfish motives. Please accept it, sir."
Liu Zhuo did not refuse, and gave a grateful salute: "The king's kindness will be remembered by the common people in their hearts!"
Yang Ji bowed his hand to him.
Liu Zhuo got on his horse and rode away.
Yang Ji was about to return home when a fast horse galloped over. Sitting immediately was a eunuch, who said from a distance: "The saint has urgently summoned King Wei to the palace to discuss matters. Please report to King Wei and ask him to enter the palace quickly to see you." The eunuch didn't wait for anyone to respond, and ran away again, apparently to inform other officials in the room.
Yang Ji knew in his heart that something big must have happened, otherwise the eunuch would not be so anxious. He did not dare to neglect and hurriedly went into the mansion to change clothes.
