In order to study hard, you have to play less games, don't watch Japanese action movies, and don't spend all your time on puppy love and eating, drinking and having fun - this is called destroying human desire!
If we go a step further and say that if you, a big scientist, want to engage in scientific research to achieve the goal of tomorrow’s science, you must also eliminate some people’s desires... because many of the science’s science projects are not very profitable! How can one satisfy endless human desires without money?
If you only have "human desires" in your heart, then you can't calm down and deal with it tomorrow... just go make big money or make quick money to satisfy your human desires! And is there an end to human desire?
It seems that there is none, and the money is not too much. If it cannot be extinguished properly, in the end there will only be human desires and no natural principles, and it may even harm the natural principles!
However, Neo-Confucianism's "preserving natural principles and destroying human desires" has a big flaw, that is, it does not preserve natural principles, but only destroys human desires!
This won't work!
This is equivalent to a parent who only knows how to control the child's playful desires, but does not let him go to school... No matter how well-behaved an illiterate person is, he will not be able to get into Peking University and Tsinghua University!
And this Neo-Confucianism has been studying things for hundreds of years, but they haven't even figured out a single hair. This shows that they don't know how to study things at all!

At the same time, most people do not have great human desires that can affect the existence of natural principles. Only the exploiting class has a lot of human desires. It would be good if the working people can fill their stomachs. How can there be so many human desires? Can it be destroyed?
Therefore, it is quite reactionary to not maintain the principles of nature and at the same time expand and make the desire to destroy people absolute!
Inspired by Zhao Kai, Yue Fei not only succeeded in fighting, but also summed up the "simple induction method" and "hypothetical deduction method".
These two methods, coupled with the "empirical research method" proposed by Zhao Kai, gave Neo-Confucianism some theoretical tools to understand things and understand principles.
In other words, Neo-Confucianism now knows a little about investigating things. Although I only know a little bit, I have already started.
As for Neo-Confucianism, which has entered the gate of investigating things, its great development is inevitable!
However, Neo-Confucianism, which has embarked on the road of studying things and studying theory, has already shown signs of becoming "high-end" and "elite".
After all, gewu is inherently high-end and niche, and is not for most people!
Although Zhao Kai was aware of the problem of Confucianism being "isolated from the masses", he also wanted to expand the foundation of Confucianism through the methods of "opening large schools" and "treating the poor with courtesy".
However, due to the high-end line of Neo-Confucianism and the need to take care of the Fu Bing Group to consolidate his rule, Zhao Kai's "big school" was mainly to run schools for the children of Fu Bing...the real purpose was to cultivate military Elites are used in colonial wars and at the same time to prevent the decay of the Fubing Group.
And the "poor people under the courtesy" are dependent on running schools, so they will inevitably evolve into soldiers under the courtesy.
If this line is carried out, in twenty or thirty years there may be two million soldiers and military officers who are well-educated (compared to the Middle Ages), possess the spirit of Neo-Confucianism and have strong bodies.
Although it is powerful enough to maintain Zhao Kai's dynasty, it may be able to continue to export force externally and slowly transform society internally.
But how many people were there in the Song Dynasty? What proportion of the two million people represents it?
Li Tong himself was a second disciple of Er Cheng. He was not only proficient in the knowledge of Mr. Yin Chuan, but also knew the knowledge of Mr. Ming Dao. Of course, we also know what the pros and cons of the two Mr. Cheng’s knowledge are?
Although the two Cheng brothers are collectively regarded as the masters of Neo-Confucianism, their knowledge is actually on two different lines. His younger brother, Mr. Yin Chuan, Cheng Yi, is a "mathematical, physical and chemical" Neo-Confucian scholar, while his elder brother, Mr. Ming Dao, Cheng Hao's knowledge focuses on the original mind and believes that all things belong to one body. Li Tong was originally a disciple of Yang Shi, and Yang Shi was a disciple of Cheng Yi. He was naturally inclined to study things to gain knowledge.
But after attending the first Confucianism conference, he had already discovered the shortcomings of Neo-Confucianism.
Li Tong said eloquently: "Although General Tiance is a scholar of heaven and man, he has found a way to study things and gain knowledge, and he also wants to educate the world with this way. However, the way of studying things is very difficult. I have been studying things behind closed doors for more than ten years, but I have not exhausted it. Principles, you can see how difficult it is! There are so many principles of all things? How can it be possible to exhaust them all?
It was precisely because Mr. Mingdao knew how difficult it was to investigate things that he focused on his own heart and ignored external knowledge. If the original mind can achieve oneness with all things, it will naturally be able to understand and reason. And cultivating the mind is the way for people in the world to understand reason! "
This is probably the route of Xinxue! Pay attention to inner sanctification. In the words of Lu Jiuyuan, the later master of mind science, it is a "simple skill". In any case, it is simpler than exhausting the principles of all things, right?
There are many great Confucians in later generations who have become saints in their hearts, but it is hard to say whether there are aliens who have exhausted the principles of all things...
Moreover, inner sanctification is difficult to prove. Only you know whether you are "holy" or not. How can others figure it out?
The matter of exhausting the truth of all things is easy to falsify. Build a power station with controllable nuclear fusion to light a light bulb, and build a light-speed spacecraft to deliver express delivery.
If you really want Confucianism to move towards religion, cultivating the mind is definitely better than studying things.
