Kuaichuan Shaoxi was born in the Mino Toki family. He was only twelve years old when he became a monk in the 10th year of Eisho (1513 AD).
In the following twenty or thirty years, Kuaichuan Shaoxi basically worshiped Buddha in major Rinzai temples in Meinong, and occasionally went out to wander around. In the ninth year of Tensho (AD 1581), he was awarded the title of National Master of Great Wisdom and Victory by Emperor Masachikamachi.
