[Disaster of Qinchuanyi]
The western territory of Former Shu was not affected by the war, and the Tianxiong Army in the northwest important town of Qinzhou still controlled the most elite force in Former Shu, the Longwu Army.
When the Later Tang Dynasty entered the country, Qinzhou Jiedu envoy Wang Chengxiu and Jiedu deputy envoy An Chongba analyzed the current situation and discussed the battle plan.
Wang Chengxiu planned to raid the tail of Hou Tang, so that Qianshu would be able to close the door and beat the dog.
An Chongba strongly opposed it, saying that if the operation failed, the consequences would be disastrous. Our country has more than 100,000 elite troops and the most dangerous terrain in the world. Even if the army of the Later Tang Dynasty is brave, it will never get close to Jianmen Pass!
An Chongba proposed that the two of them lead their troops south to reinforce Chengdu in order to compete for the title of "King Qin escorting the emperor".
In fact, An Chongba had other plots, and Wang Chengxiu fell into his trap.
The next day, Wang Chengxiu ordered his troops and horses to prepare to go south with An Chongba. The local tyrants and evil gentry in Qinzhou held a farewell banquet outside the city. An Chongba suddenly knelt in front of Wang Chengxiu's horse, kowtowed and said: "Qinzhou is an important town of the country. If we all leave, who will protect the country and tranquilize the people for the empire? Commander-in-chief, you Even if you leave first, I am willing to stay and guard the border for the commander!"
At this point, Wang Chengxiu had no choice but to take his deputy, deputy envoy Wang Zongru, to go south. As soon as Wang Chengxiu left, An Chongba immediately surrendered to Xiancheng of the Later Tang Dynasty.
According to the policy announced by the Later Tang Dynasty, if An Chongba surrendered together with Wang Chengxiu, he could at most get a deputy military envoy and the second-in-command of the vassal town. If he detached Wang Chengxiu and dedicated the Qinzhou Tianxiong Army alone, he could become a military envoy. First in command.
An Chongba's little conspiracy made Wang Chengxiu miserable. Since the east side was the march route of the Later Tang Dynasty, Wang Chengxiu had to lead 12,000 Longwu troops to bypass the west side, and even once bypassed the territory of Qianshu and entered the territory of the Qiang people. Through continuous bribery, he "smuggled" to Chengdu with difficulty ".
Along the way, there were poor mountains and rivers, climbing snow-capped mountains and crossing grasslands. They were cut off from food and grass. They were also constantly harassed and attacked by the Qiang tribe. Large numbers of the elite Longwu Army froze and starved to death. By the time they reached Maozhou, only the remaining Two thousand people.
On December 14, the remnants of the Longwu Army, which had gone through many difficulties and dangers, finally completed the Long March under the leadership of Wang Chengxiu and Wang Zongrui and arrived in Chengdu. At this time, the former Shu capital was destroyed for half a month.
Wang Chengxiu made a surrender request to Li Jiji.
Li Jiqi angrily yelled: "You guard the most important military town for the country and have the most elite military troops. Why don't you resist when the enemy invades?"
Wang Chengxiu flattered him and said, "Afraid of the great king's power!"
He slapped the horse's hooves, "Then why didn't you surrender earlier?"
"Because Master Wang has not entered my jurisdiction." His argument was very reasonable.
Li Jizhen asked again: "How many people did you bring through the Qiang controlled area?"
Wang Chengxiu answered truthfully: "Twelve thousand people."
"How many of them are back alive now?"
"two thousand."
Li Jiji was both angry and sad. The more than 10,000 Longwu Army were powerful enemies before, but now they are the elite of our Tang Dynasty, and you actually consumed more than 10,000 of them for no reason!
"Then now is the time for you to repay ten thousand lives."
Li Jiji ordered that Wang Chengxiu and Wang Zongru be killed.
Wang Zongbi was a huge hidden danger within the former Shu court, while Wang Chengxiu of Qinzhou was a huge hidden danger locally.
After eradicating these two hidden dangers, the occupying army of the Later Tang Dynasty performed a major operation on Shu's land administration: officials who were originally fourth-grade or above were demoted to one level; those below fifth-grade, if they did not have outstanding talents or noble family backgrounds, were demoted. They will all be demoted back to their place of origin.
He also conveyed the edict issued by Li Cunxu to Wang Zongyan. Li Cunxu vowed to protect Wang Zongyan and ensure that he would have a certain fiefdom and title so that he could still enjoy a certain amount of glory and wealth and live in peace in his old age.
After Wang Zongyan received the imperial edict, he was extremely pleased and happily told the people around him: "It is very good to be Liu Chan." (After receiving the imperial edict, he happily said: "It can be regarded as An Le Gong.")
A few days later, on the third day of the first lunar month in the fourth year of Tongguang (926), Li Jiji sent Li Jiyu and Li Yan to lead his troops to escort Wang Zongyan and his clan, as well as prime ministers Wang Kai, Zhang Ge, Yu Chuansu, Xu Ji, and Hanlin scholar Li Hao. Hundreds of civil and military officials and their families, a total of thousands of people, went to Luoyang to await their fate.
On February 18, the team marched to Chang'an, and an order came from Luoyang to station them on the spot and wait for further instructions. Wang Zongyan was heartlessly dreaming of becoming the second Liu Chan, but he didn't know that the danger was approaching.
One month later, on March 18, the eunuch brought Li Cunxu's edict to Yansi:
"By God's blessing, the emperor issued an edict: Kill Wang Zongyan's entire family, please do so."
According to historical records, Li Cunxu originally wanted to kill Wang Zongyan and thousands of his civil and military officials. The original text of the edict was "Wang Yan and his party will be killed together", which meant that these kings and ministers of the former Shu and their families would be killed. Thousands of people were all killed. At that time, the edict had been approved by Li Cunxu, with the word "ke" personally inscribed by the emperor, and had been stamped with the official seal of the central government. It was an effective red-headed document of the central government. When Zhang Juhan, the Privy Councilor of the Later Tang Dynasty, reviewed it, he was extremely confused. With no one around, Zhang Juhan pressed the edict on the pillar in the palace, quickly erased the word "行" with his pen, and then changed it to the word "家".
Zhang Juhan risked his life and tampered with the emperor's edict. One word saved thousands of lives.
In Qinchuanyi outside Chang'an City, Zong Yan, the king of the subjugated country, was brutally exterminated. Wang Zongyan was 28 years old.
When Wang Zongyan's mother, Concubine Xu, was dying, she wailed: "My son surrendered as a country, but still ended up slaughtering the entire clan. Li Cunxu, you have betrayed your trust and violated your oath. Just wait, and you will be in disaster." Got it!"
Among the concubines in the harem, there was a "palace lady Liu" with black hair and very beautiful appearance. The executioner suddenly felt pity and wanted to spare her death. Mrs. Liu was not afraid and said: "The country will be destroyed and the family will be destroyed, and our righteousness will not be humiliated!" She went to die without hesitation.
At that time, a monk named Yuan Gong who was traveling in the Shu region wrote "Poetry on the Abandonment of the Country":
“The greatest joys and sorrows come and go, and the songs only stop and then start to sigh.
Leading the sheep to destroy the master is looking for the country of Qi, pointing out that the treacherous ministers will lose their families.
The night is cool and the moon is locked in the sky, and the spring flowers bloom in the backyard.
The imperial estates of both dynasties have become a dream, and the mausoleum trees are green and crows are noisy at dusk. "
It is said that as early as when Wang Jiangang founded the People's Republic of China, there was a monk with strange behavior. This monk was holding a big broom. When he encountered government offices, temples, Taoist temples and other places, he would sprinkle water at the door to sweep. At that time, people called him "the sweeping monk" . After the monk finishes cleaning, he will write six words on the ground, "Shui Xingxian, afraid of Qinchuan", no one can understand its meaning.
It wasn't until Wang Zongyan suffered the Qinchuanyi disaster that people suddenly realized that the word "Water" was the word "Yan". It turned out that the sweeping monk had been telling people about the national fate of the former Shu.
There are also historical records saying that at that time (925), the department responsible for compiling the calendar in the former Shu Dynasty set the leap month as the first month of the next year (926) and reported it to the court. The officials in the court discussed that it was best to integrate with international standards and adopt the calendar of the Later Tang Dynasty. Move the leap month to December of this year.
However, vendors selling wall calendars on the street still have inventory for the old calendar (the first leap month next year), and they are still cutting prices on the street to clear their inventory. Someone asked if there was a new calendar (the leap lunar month of this year) for sale. The calendar seller said casually: "Oh, it doesn't matter, it's just one day anyway." It can be regarded as a prophecy. The former Shu Kingdom really did not survive until the first month of next year.
