That year, while driving in Huazhou, Han Jian committed the horrific "Sixteenth House Massacre". Tang Zhaozong also hoped for a peaceful and stable external environment, so he readily agreed to the reconciliation request, prepared to amend the credentials, and formally signed the peace agreement.
That year, Wang Jian had just annexed Dongchuan. When he heard that the imperial court planned to normalize diplomatic relations with Nanzhao, he immediately refuted it, saying that the little barbarians should not care about it, why bother with the imperial edict? With me here, they dare to act arrogantly!
The imperial court followed Wang Jian's suggestion and handed over the Nanzhao issue to the local government (Xichuan Jiedushi Wang Jian) with full authority to handle it.
Wang Jian cursed at Nanzhao and threw over a letter full of gunpowder: "You son of a barbarian turtle! You want to restore the old good things. Who destroyed the 'old good things'? Why are you pretending to be a grandson? If you don't accept it, come to Chengdu again. Come and have fun." I will let you die miserably here!"
Signing: You build my brother in society.
Nanzhao listened attentively, and as expected, he didn't even dare to fart.
In fact, Wang Jian took over the "Nanzhao Project" mostly out of his own selfish interests.
First of all, Wang Jian, who occupied both Sichuan and Sichuan, did not want to see the Nanzhao issue peacefully resolved. The reason was very simple. He wanted to support the invaders with self-respect. Secondly, Wang Jian did not want the central forces to get involved in Nanzhao affairs, in case the central government would intervene in the two Sichuan areas. Penetration of forces ensures its absolute control over the two Sichuan areas.
Regardless of his purpose, Wang Jian rejected Nanzhao's peace proposal with an extremely tough attitude. He is mighty and domineering, exalting the prestige of our country, becoming the idol of patriotic youth, and gaining countless fans.
In November of the fourth year of Qianhua (914), the leader of Nanzhao, Zheng Renmin (son of Zheng Maisi), in order to divert domestic conflicts, launched another aggressive war and invaded Lizhou (former Shu).
Wang Jian sent out the "Three Moves" - Wang Zongfan, Wang Zongbo, and Wang Zongshou to lead the army to resist.
The former Shu army killed its prime minister Zhao Chaozheng in the first battle, and in the second world war they destroyed the thirteen villages and captured and killed tens of thousands of people. Nanzhao was defeated and fled. Tens of thousands of people fell off the cliff on the way and suffered heavy injuries.
Wang Zongfan built a pontoon bridge on the Dadu River and reported to Wang Jian, asking for permission to cross the river and cross the border to fight, intending to merge Nanzhao into the former Shu territory in one fell swoop.
Wang Jian issued an urgent edict and ordered them to immediately return to the court and not fight across the border.
According to historical records, from then on, "Nanzhao no longer invaded the border". Through a "self-defense counterattack against the barbarians", Wang Jian completely solved the Nanzhao problem that had plagued the Tang Dynasty for decades, and there was no war in the southwest ever since.
The pacification of Nanzhao was a great achievement of Wang Jian.
Wang Jian once wrote a "Book of Admonitions" to the former prince Wang Zongyi. It contained Wang Jian's self-evaluation and admonitions to Wang Zongyi. The summary of the text is:
"I carry the three-foot sword and turn my family into a country... Therefore, all officials and people love me like their parents and respect me like heaven and earth. You are a young and rich person, but you don't know the difficulty of starting a business..."
This article was included in the "Complete Tang Dynasty" and was called "Jie Zi Yuanying Wen". After Wang Zongyi was established as the prince, he changed his name to Wang Yuanying.
It can be seen that Wang Jian feels quite good about himself. He believes that he is "respectful, thrifty, cautious, diligent and kind". He believes that the people of the country love him like their parents and respect him like heaven and earth.
However, as mentioned before, before he died, he said that he saw countless evil spirits of the people surrounding him, criticizing him for lavishing wealth and lavishing wealth.
When Wang Jian took control of Xichuan, he indeed encouraged farming and mulberry cultivation, recruited refugees, and developed the economy, making the Sichuan-Sichuan region one of the richest regions at that time. However, he did adopt a policy of high taxes, which placed a heavy burden on the people. Once on his birthday, counselor Feng Juan presented him with a "Birthday Ode". The first half eulogized Wang Jian's merits, while the second half described the hardships of the people.
Wang Jian was very moved after hearing this and sighed: "With a loyal and courageous person like you by my side, why not worry about not making achievements!" Then he rewarded Feng Juan heavily and reduced taxes.
However, after Wang Jian became emperor, he resumed exorbitant taxes and miscellaneous taxes, and the burden on the people became increasingly heavy.
It is said that Wang Jian searched for the land and created a clever name. Almost all goods in Shu had to pay taxes, and the people were miserable. One time, Wang Jian personally inspected the silkworm market in Chengdu and saw the bustling crowds and bustling trade. He was inspired and said to his neighbors: "The sericulture business is so popular. If we set up a mulberry tree tax, we will definitely make money!"
The news spread like wildfire, and the people were terrified. All the mulberry trees outside Chengdu were cut down overnight. The heavy endowment of former Shu can be seen.
Feng Juan repeatedly advised Wang Jian to reduce taxes. Wang Jian also thought highly of him. When he was preparing to found the country, both Feng Juan and Wei Zhuang were the prime ministers appointed by Wang Jian.
Unlike Wei Zhuang who actively helped Wang Jian become emperor, Feng Juan firmly opposed Wang Jian becoming emperor, just like Zhang Chengye opposed Li Cunxu's proclaiming emperor. After Wang Jian officially proclaimed himself emperor, Feng Juanjian resigned as prime minister, stayed behind closed doors, and soon died of grief and anger.
After Wang Jian's death, Prince Wang Zongyan ascended the throne and succeeded him.
