【Wang Jian passed away】
Wang Jian had been ill for a long time. In order to seek good luck, he changed the Yuan Dynasty to amnesty for three consecutive years.
At the beginning of the founding of the country, the reign name "Tianfu" of Emperor Zhaozong of the Tang Dynasty was used. After that, it took 3 years to establish the reign name "Wucheng"; it took 5 years to change the reign title "Yongping"; since 916 AD, for three consecutive years, it has been When the Yuan Dynasty was changed, every year was the "first year", the first year of Tongzheng (916), the first year of Tianhan (917), and the first year of Guangtian (918).
The amnesty of the Yuan Dynasty could only comfort Wang Jian's soul, but it could not heal his body. As his condition worsened day by day, Wang Jian knew that his end was approaching, so he gathered his close friends to support him. The eunuch Song Guangsi and his adopted sons Wang Zongbi, Wang Zongwan, Wang Zongyao and others were responsible for taking care of the orphans.
Even when a person is about to die, his words are good. Wang Jian first briefly reviewed his life and said that thanks to your dedicated assistance, I was able to pacify the land of Qin and Shu, and even found the country and proclaimed myself emperor. I have been working hard, but I am afraid that I will be sorry for the country, the country, the gods of heaven and earth, and the people of the world. I really hope The world can be peaceful, the weather can be smooth, the crops can be plentiful, and the people can live and work in peace and contentment... I have worked hard all my life, and I am getting older and more seriously ill. If I really die, there is no need to rescue me and I will give up treatment...
Later, Wang Jian made arrangements for his posthumous affairs: Although Wang Zongyan was virtuous, he was still young (only 18 years old). I didn’t want to abolish the elders and establish the younger ones. It was you who forced me to do this, so I had to do it reluctantly. , follow your will, so please remember your original intention, be sure to assist him with all your heart, and don't ruin my family business!
The "virtue" in Wang Jian's mouth was just a polite word for the occasion. He knew what kind of virtue Wang Zongyan was, so after taking a breath, Wang Jian added, "If Wang Zongyan is really not qualified, please give me some advice." Choose a qualified person from among the other descendants to inherit the throne, place Wang Zongyan in a separate palace, and give him generous treatment to live a long life. Don't kill him!"
At the end, Wang Jian also mentioned measures to limit the power of the "descendants", that is, not allowing Concubine Xu Xian's brothers to have real power - especially military power, and only giving them generous treatment.
Through Wang Jian's will, we can also capture some information that is easily overlooked, such as the sudden mention of Concubine Xu Xian's brothers. They have never been seen in historical data before, and I believe it is just a lack of historical data, otherwise Wang Jian would not have remembered and given thousands of instructions before his death. At that time, it was very likely that the power of the "hou clan" was on the rise and there were signs of interference in politics. This is only logical. After Wang Jian's death, Concubine Xu Xian's brothers, Xu Yanqiong and Xu Yangui, did quickly take control of the military power. This is a story later.
After being orphaned, Wang Jian did not die on the spot, but continued to fight against the disease for a period of time. During this period, Wang Jian was in unbearable pain and had to sit in the kit. On this day, while Wang Jian was struggling with his illness, he said to the people around him: "I saw countless grievances of the people surrounding me, countless in front and back, and they all scolded me, saying that they were all because of my great wealth and wealth. If I die, they will go to the underworld and file a complaint against me to the Lord of Hell...Hey, I really don't know the sufferings of the people! What should I do now?"
Not long after saying these words, Wang Jian closed his eyes forever with guilt for the people of Shu and worries about the future of the country. He died at the age of 72 and had reigned for 12 years.
Wang Jian came from a humble background and "has been a pastry chef all his life."
It is said that when my father was buried in the early years, the coffin automatically jumped out after entering the pit. An expert next to him said that this was a geomantic treasure land for the emperor, and of course he would not be allowed to bury a commoner like you. Wang Jian was so angry that he put the coffin back into the pit, then the coffin jumped again, and Wang Jian was buried again... This was repeated many times, and finally the coffin board of his ancestor was suppressed.
This is of course anti-scientific. Emperors in the feudal period always invented some supernatural legends to emphasize that they were ordered by heaven. The place where father and emperor are buried is just one of them.
Similarly, it is said that when Wang Jian was in the Zhongwu Army, he was ordered to attack the grass bandit Shang Junchang. In a certain battle, Wang Jian fought so hard that the horse was exhausted. Then for unknown reasons, Wang Jian cut open the horse's body. belly, and found a small snake inside. I believe this, after all, a silk scroll with "King Chen Sheng" written on it can be found in the belly of the fish.
Another example is that when Wang Jian was a young man, he and his friend Jin Hui were robbers. They were wanted by the government. In panic, they hid in an ancient tomb. It happened to be that a local fasting party was being held. Suddenly, someone outside the tomb shouted "Uncovered" into the tomb. Do you want to go to the conference together?" A voice from the ancient tomb also replied: "The King of Shu is here. I want to accompany the King of Shu, so I won't go now." Wang Jian and Jinhui plucked up the courage to look around, inside and outside the ancient tomb. There were only two of them outside, and they didn't know where the sound came from.
The two looked at each other and said, "We've hit a ghost!" However, the two desperadoes were not afraid and asked each other: "The King of Shu is here...who among us is the King of Shu?"
Jin Hui said: "Bago, you are braver and different from ordinary people. In my opinion, you are the king of Shu."
On the surface, Wang Jian was polite and condescending, "No, no, don't believe the lies." But he was very proud in his heart.
After a while, another voice sounded outside, "I came back from the conference and brought you a meal. Since the King of Shu is here, I specially brought back two more portions to present to the King of Shu to express my feelings."
Wang Jian Jinhui looked outside and saw two more hot meals outside the ancient tomb. The two were not polite and started eating from their bowls. It is said that Wang Jian's portion was more delicious.
This story should be edited by Comrade Jin Hui. Later, Wang Jian and Jin Hui reformed their evil ways and joined the army together. They both belonged to the Xuzhou Zhongwu Army. They were selected by Yang Fuguang and were included in the "Eight Zhongwu Capitals". Later, they were selected by Tian Lingzi and reorganized into the "Five Capitals of Suijia". After Wang Jian became emperor, Jin Hui received preferential treatment from Long Yuanlao and was awarded the title of "Hero of the founding of the country to protect the saints and ministers", Kaifu Yitong Sansi, Inspector of Schools, Tongzhongshumenxiapingzhangshi, Chongwutaijiedu He was envoy and founding Duke, and later was granted the title of Zhongshu Ling. Wang Zongyan succeeded to the throne and was promoted to the title of Prince of Hongnong County. After his death, he was awarded the title of Grand Master and the posthumous title "Xianwu".
Although Wang Jian was born in the military, he respected scholars very much. He was "elegant and courteous to Confucian officials, and treated them with great courtesy." He once told people around him that when he was serving in the Shence Army, he witnessed the Emperor of the Tang Dynasty summoning Confucian scholars and nurturing them. Talking, being intimate, "beyond the reach of generals and ministers", no matter how polite I am to the virtuous corporal now, I can't compare to one-tenth of the emperor of the Tang Dynasty!
Sima Guang commented in "Zizhi Tongjian" that the former Shu under his rule "had the legacy of the Tang Dynasty". It can be said to be a very high evaluation.
"Ten Kingdoms Spring and Autumn" also gave Wang Jian a very high evaluation. He is considered to be a hero of a generation with great talent and great strategy. His life's achievements are summarized as "wisdom drove Tian and Chen, and strength combined with Yang and Gu. In the north, Qilong was blamed, and in the south, Changhe was insulted."
Tian and Chen refer to Tian Lingzi and Chen Jingxuan; Yang and Gu refer to Pengzhou Yang Sheng and Dongchuan Gu Yanhui. There is no need to explain "Beiwen was guilty of Qilong". Our key point is to say "Southern Yu was insulted by Changhe".
Changhe refers to Nanzhao, the old friend of the people of the Tang Dynasty.
Nanzhao sounded the clarion call for the demise of the Tang Dynasty and dragged the Tang Empire into the abyss of destruction through the Annan War and the Battle of Chengdu. The Nanzhao issue was also the most difficult and troublesome diplomatic issue in the late Tang Dynasty.
After the death of Shilong, the lord of Nanzhao, his son Longshun came to the throne. In the fourth year of Qianning (897), Nanzhao's powerful official and prime minister Zheng Maisi (the seventh grandson of Zheng Hui, "the most strict tutor in history") killed Long Shun and supported Long Shun's son Shun Hua Zhen to succeed him.
In the second year of Tianfu (902), Zheng Maisi carried out another regicide, killed Shun Huazhen, and killed all more than 800 members of the Nanzhao clan, and Nanzhao was declared destroyed. Zheng Maisi immediately proclaimed himself emperor and changed the country's name to "Dachanghe Kingdom".
Nanzhao and Tang Dynasty were really close friends. They had been in love and fighting each other for more than a hundred years, but their final endings were surprisingly the same. All powerful ministers killed two generations of emperors in succession, massacred the entire royal family, and then established their own country. The dates are also very close, Nanzhao was in 902 and Datang was in 907.
Nanzhao has changed its name many times before, but we always call it "Nanzhao", including this time.
After Zheng Maisi killed Long Shun (897), he gained actual control of Nanzhao, and the young master Shun Huazhen was just his puppet. Zheng Maisi was eager to stabilize the external environment, so he sent a special envoy to visit Datang to ask for the restoration of the good old days.
This time the diplomatic mission was intercepted by Wang Jian.
