Li Huamei knew that at this moment, she had become a real polished commander. [Full text reading] Welcome to reading Although Li Ying was not by her side for a long time and was not yet considered a confidant, he was still someone she had conquered. Now that he has a "female orderly" with a smile on his face, it goes without saying that he is an Australian to monitor him.
Then he thought about his crew members entering the "quarantine camp" - according to the Australians' ability to confuse people, will they still be loyal to him when they come out?
Li Huamei suddenly felt the terrible feeling that she had been watched while taking a bath, naked and exposed to the gaze but could hide.
At this point, we can only take things as they come. She comforted herself that she had to pay a price to be believed.
She was assigned to a double dormitory for single officers in the Zuoying base. Since she was the only female officer, she had the right to occupy one room to herself, which was more convenient.
But her freedom is limited to less than 8 square meters. Pushing open, you can see the sentries swimming in the base and the forest of masts in the bay. Although she could move freely in most parts of the base, she was not allowed to leave Zuoying Base without asking for leave, and there were many rules for asking for leave, so she simply gave up on this idea.
It's almost like going to jail. Li Huamei thought to herself.
However, there is some good news amid this desperation. First, the Hangzhou's modification plan, which was rejected in Lingao, was approved in Kaohsiung, including improving the ship's handling performance and increasing its firepower. Except for the slightly more complicated installation of the steering wheel, these are relatively simple modifications. The ship repair yards in Kaohsiung can afford it.
Secondly, as if to distract her from chatting, on the third day after she entered the camp, someone came to inform her to participate in "surface ship officer training."
The training was conducted at Zuoying Base, and all participants were naturalized civilian naval officers of the First Fleet. At first, Li Huamei scoffed at the training. She has been floating on the sea for many years. I have encountered all kinds of people and all kinds of things, but I have never heard that a naval battle can be won by sitting in front of a table and moving a few small models around on a sand table. Needless to say, they also teach navigation theory - is there any Australian who is better at navigation than she is?
But this is a great opportunity to find out more about Australians. She was very active about this. I am the first one to come to class every day. Soon, she was attracted by something: it was a picture album. Beautifully decorated. It is usually placed on a special reading table in the classroom, and gloves must be worn when browsing.
The paper of the picture album is hard and thick, and it feels heavy in my arms. There were pictures inside of all kinds of ships that she had never seen or heard of before. Each ship is marked with the ship's name, country and detailed data, including tonnage and sail type. The speed, weapon configuration, and personnel are all densely packed and well-proportioned.
What shocked her the most were the large three-dimensional and perspective views of the ship. The structural and internal details of each ship type are depicted in detail. Li Huamei couldn't believe that Australians could intuitively describe all the details of a ship on paper in such detail. She knew that European shipbuilding had very detailed drawings, but these were the secrets of shipbuilders and shipowners and were not accessible to ordinary people.
Since this book was not allowed to be taken out of the conference room, she would come early every class day to look through the picture album. I looked at all kinds of ships, big or small, with fascination. I am looking forward to having a boat of my own in the future.
Later, it was not just a picture album that shocked her. Australians on the podium. Using a lot of difficult terminology, graphics drawn on a black board and a few simple small models, it led her into a world she had never seen before. And she would not think of it in the near future. What she hears in this classroom will change her life. Draw a completely different trajectory.
Every day when I was giving lectures in class, I would hear the rumbling sound of cannons from time to time. Everyone didn't take it seriously: Kaohsiung had already assembled many warships. Originally, there were many ships coming and going here, but there was a constant flow of ships coming in and people leaving the port. Now, although ships entering and leaving the port are still frequent, Lichun and several steam-powered gunboats have not been dispatched again. I only occasionally go out to sea to take a look off the coast of Kaohsiung for actual shooting training. Will be back the next day at most.
But on this day, the instructor in charge of the class announced that all trainees would go to observe the Navy's amphibious landing exercise today.
The amphibious landing exercise was conducted on a beach outside Zuoying Base. In addition to several warships of the First Fleet, there were also many large-engine, medium-engine and small-engine boats.
Standard beach landing mode: the special reconnaissance team marks the target and landing point on the shore, destroys the command center; each ship approaches the beach for shelling, transfers personnel, seizes the beach landing, controls the port, unloads the artillery... Each link is linked one by one. It's dazzling to watch.
For someone like Li Huamei, although she came with the purpose of collecting intelligence, the gap in knowledge made her intelligence collection sensitivity too low. So much so that I could only watch the whole exercise being lively. Although during the exercise she saw many new gadgets and special tactics that she could not usually see, she felt very shocked, but she did not see any clues from them.
However, observing the landing exercise still allowed her to draw a clear conclusion: the Australians will launch a landing battle in the near future: the target is likely to be Zheng Zhilong.
This information is very important. But she couldn't pass it on to her sister, and besides, the life and death of the Zheng family didn't matter to her. And looking at the vigor of the Australian navy and army, it is not a big suspense about who will win and who will lose. Even a young lady would not bet on a force that was about to be destroyed.
I remembered that a few months earlier, the lady had said to herself: "Liu Xiang is finished. Sooner or later he will be destroyed in the hands of Zheng Zhilong and the Australians. There is no need for us to do business with them anymore." So now she can also say the same: "The Zheng family is finished. They will be destroyed by the Australians sooner or later. There is no need for us to do business with them anymore."
For the veterans in Kaohsiung, this landing exercise means that a full-scale war against the Zheng family is imminent. The two special reconnaissance teams were transferred in before summer for preliminary intelligence collection, so the navy team transferred from Hong Kong this time will be a formal combat force.
Shi Zhiqi came to Kaohsiung in a low-key manner. Along with him, there was a Marine Corps unit fully formed in Hong Kong. The public designation was "Shi Detachment" and the official designation was the First Marine Expeditionary Team - this expeditionary team. The organization must be obtained, not only the organization must be obtained, but the weapons must also be obtained.
All members of the Marine Corps are no longer equipped with the Mini rifle, the standard equipment of the Fubo Army, but a fully powerful rifle: the Hall tube rifle.
The Hall-barreled rifle is a junior version of the breech-loading rifle: the gun has a lifting breech. When loading, put the entire paper bag into the breech and then close it. The flash cap is placed at the fire door. It's actually a metal shell that's attached to the gun.
The rate of fire of a tubular rifle is much higher than that of a muzzle-loading gun. The disadvantage is that the breech is leaking, and the range and power are reduced. It is not as good as the theoretically backward muzzle-loading rifle. In fact, before the invention of metal casings, all rifles Breech-loading rifles all have this problem. However, facing enemies who lacked effective long-range penetration weapons in the 17th century was not a big problem. Secondly, the machinery factory said that this problem can be alleviated by improving the machining accuracy, brass wedge-shaped joint surfaces and curved locking parts - after all, always making the same Mini rifles has made the mechanical enthusiasts tired. Everyone in this business has the urge to make their own weapons, and they all want to get some high-end equipment.
But the idea of enjoying the speed of a breech-loading gun without a metal fixing is very tempting: Although Mini has solved the problem of difficulty in loading, the loading method of the front-loading rifled rifle is still the same as in the past: tear the bottom of the paper shell open , pour the propellant into the paper case from the muzzle, insert the head with a purge, press the hammer, place the flash cap on the fire door, aim, and pull the trigger. The rate of fire of a muzzle-loading gun of 2 to 3 rounds refers to this method. In an emergency, you can also stuff the entire paper case into the gun bore, install the flash cap and fire directly. Since the propellant is wrapped in the paper case, the rate of slow fire or misfire is increased. This happens often in training and actual combat. In comparison, the rate of fire of a tube rifle using a paper shell can reach 7 to 10 rounds. If higher quality granular black powder is used, the Hall rifle can even fire more than thirty rounds continuously without cleaning the chamber. This is also an advantage over the Mini rifle.
Of course, the biggest advantage is that the Minigun currently widely equipped by the army and navy can be easily converted into a Hall-type rifle by modifying the tail of the bolt. The production line also needs to be greatly adjusted - except for a few more Minie-type rifles. Except for parts that require slightly higher processing accuracy, the basic production performance is close.
Although the technological leap of the Hall rifle is not large and can only be regarded as a small step in the development of the military industry, the cost of taking this small step is not high, but the power can be doubled. It is in line with the Executive Committee's idea of low-cost improvement.
After Lin Shenhe's continuous activities and advocacy, this small-scale improvement measure was finally implemented before Operation Engine, and a batch of rifles were modified on a small scale: all of them were equipped with the Marine Corps. Based on the Hong Kong detachment, Shi Zhiqi proposed to establish an experimental naval force with independent amphibious strike capabilities, which coincided with Lin Shenhe's proposal to establish a standard model test force.
