Besides, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng returned to Longshan Guoen Temple and told the story of Budai Monk - Maitreya Bodhisattva in the main hall. As he listened, the monks in the hall forgot the time and the era, and were fascinated by the story. Attracted by the ups and downs of plots, characters, and scenes...
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng's tragic story, which shocked the world and made us weep for ghosts and gods, was like the sound of nature coming from the Buddhist kingdom, which moved them to tears...
While thinking, suddenly, there was a Zen monk under the hall who seemed to have some enlightenment. He blinked his intelligent eyes, raised his round and huge head, and murmured to himself, "Isn't that right?"
The Zen monk's words happened to be heard by the gods passing by him.
Shenhui couldn't help but ask: "Brother, uncle, you mean...?"
When the Zen monk asked about it, he said, "I mean the time mentioned by the ancestor, which is wrong!"
Shenhui will say: "You mean what my master said about Maitreya Bodhisattva's experience, the following time is wrong?"
"Yes, that's what Foolish Monk means." The Zen monk nodded and said.
"This is called being able to know the past and the future." Shenhui smiled mysteriously at him.
Then, he bowed his hands to all the monks and said with great sadness: "I would like to ask my uncles and brothers to please stop asking questions and go back to digest the Dharma that I have listened to in the past two days. "
"Why? The Sixth Patriarch spoke of our hearts..." Some of the Zen monks among them looked at Shenhui in confusion.
"Well, now that we have reached this point, I might as well reveal to you that my master... is about to pass away... just let my master rest for a while." Shen Hui choked up and said.
"Oh...it turns out to be..." The monks were shocked to hear this, and all of them were so sad that they shed tears. At this moment, how much do they have to say to Master Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch!
In silence, they all fell to the ground in unison and shouted in unison: "Kowtow to thank Master for teaching us, Namo Amitabha, Namo Sixth Patriarch Huineng."
After paying homage, the crowd under the hall all flowed away like a flood without a dike.
Looking at the empty hall, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng felt his lips and tongue were dry. He picked up the cup of Zen tea on the stage, raised his head, and drank it all.
Shen Hui quickly stepped forward and helped the master back to the abbot's room to rest.
When... when... when...
The morning bell of Longshan Guoen Temple rang again. The light morning mist is hazy, and a red sun rises slowly, seeming to reveal infinite vitality.
Master Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, faced the gushing morning sun and strolled on the top of Longshan Mountain, which looked like dragon flags. Looking around, he accidentally saw two monks walking down the mountain carrying buckets.
After a while, I saw two monks coming up the mountain carrying water.
When the Sixth Patriarch, Master Huineng, saw it, he murmured in his heart: Is there a shortage of water in the temple, so we have to carry water up from the mountain?
In order to find out the truth, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng hurriedly descended from the top of the mountain to the mountainside, and happened to meet the two monks.
When the two monks saw the Sixth Patriarch Huineng, they slowed down and said in unison: "Good morning, Master."
After the Sixth Patriarch Huineng returned the gift, he looked at the two monks and asked, "What are you doing?"
The middle-aged monk chef who was born in front and walked in front said: "Since you returned to your hometown, Master, more and more monks have come here in admiration. As a result, there is insufficient water in the temple, and there is not enough water for cooking and washing vegetables." Already..."
"Since the beginning of spring this year, God has not seen a drop of rain. The red land in Xinzhou is thousands of miles away, the Luxi River is shallow, the farmland is dry and cracked, and there is no harvest. We are in the blessed land of Longshan. It is a great blessing among misfortunes." Walking behind. said the mature and solemn monk chef.
After hearing this, Master Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, waved his hands with a heavy heart and said, "I know, Lao Na, you can go and do your work first."
"Okay, Master, take care." After the two monks and chefs finished speaking, they carried water to the kitchen.
After breakfast, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng held a Zhuoxi stick in his hand and led the disciples of Shenhui and Fahai around the mountain. Finally, he stopped at the top of Longshan Mountain, which looked like a dragon flag. Master Huineng struck the ground with a tin stick here to form a spring. The water is sweet and cool, and the water is bottomless.
In order to commemorate the Sixth Patriarch, Master Huineng, later generations called this spring Zhuoxi Spring.
No matter whether there is drought or flood every year, whether it is used more or less, the water level of this spring will always remain the same. Therefore, many believers regard this spring as holy water.
Zhuoxiquan is almost a common name. It is not unique to Guoen Temple. It is most common in Jinan and also exists in Shaolin Temple. It refers to the name of the founder of Buddhism who used his tin staff to Zhuo ground, which is where the clear spring appears.
Zhuoxi Spring in Nanhua Temple in Shaoguan, Guangdong is also called Jiulong Spring. When Master Huineng, the sixth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, first built the temple, he saw a spring in Zhuoxi here. The water was clear and sweet, and the spring was so strong that it looked like a dragon spitting water. Because there were nine spring eyes, it was like nine dragons chasing each other, so it was called Jiulong Spring.
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng once washed his cassocks here, and the great writer Su Dongpo once left a poem "Zhuoxiquan Ming" here, recording that the Sixth Patriarch opened a spring, just like the Buddhist Zen mind to benefit all living beings.
Zhuoxi Spring, dug by the Sixth Patriarch Huineng in his hometown, is located on the back side of the top of the mountain of Guoen Temple in Longshan. It is surrounded by lush mountains and dense forests, surrounded by rain and mist, steaming up, and swirling auspicious air. There are green pines and cypresses in the mountains, dense vegetation, and a gurgling stream in the valley.
The literati of the past dynasties went to Longshan Guoen Temple to pay homage to the Sixth Patriarch Huineng, and then toured the scenery of Longshan, leaving behind eternal masterpieces:
"Drinking from Zhuo Xiquan"
Sansho pepper flows into chalcedony, clearing out the Taoist tradition.
The bamboos are boiling, the clouds are cold, and the pine trees are burning with medicinal red.
The scent of tea spreads out, and the truth enters the rice bowl.
It is spread all over the forest, and the fragrance grows among the sharp-toothed bushes.
Zhang Song, the author of the song "Drinking from Zhuo Xiquan", was a Jinshi in the Yiwei imperial examination in the 13th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1415). He often promised himself a border appointment, replacing Guo Qianjin as the Protector of Xi'an, and in the 10th year of Kaiyuan he was transferred to Taiyuan Yin. The above poem is compiled from Liu Fang's "Xinxing County Chronicle" in the 23rd year of Qianlong's reign.
The poem "Drinking from Zhuoxi Spring" is about the author visiting the scenery of Longshan after visiting the Sixth Patriarch Huineng at Guoen Temple in Longshan. Unknowingly, he came to the top of Longshan and was attracted by the spring from an ancient well - Zhuoxi Spring. , stopped to watch, and wrote this poem with emotion.
Zhuoxiquan is an ancient well located about 10 meters behind Guoen Temple. When the Sixth Patriarch Huineng returned to his hometown, there was a drought and there was no water. The villagers and monks were in short supply of water, and it was difficult to dig a well. The Sixth Patriarch Huineng used a tin stick to reach the ground and the springs gushed out, so he built a well, hence the name Zhuoxi. spring. The water quality is sweet and cool, and the water is bottomless. For thousands of years, despite droughts, the spring water has continued, neither increasing nor decreasing. In the 1990s, a compatriot living far away in Taiwan once saw this well in his dream. After searching in many places in other places, he finally discovered the spring well here. This Taiwanese compatriot was very happy that his dream came true, so he erected a monument and a stone pavilion next to the well as a commemoration.
This poem mainly describes the Sixth Patriarch Huineng's solution to the water shortage problem of the local villagers and monks, and the use of Xi Zhuo land to obtain a spring. It warmly praises the Sixth Patriarch Huineng's spirit of caring about the lives of the villagers and monks. , expresses the author's infinite respect for Master Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, while drinking from the spring without forgetting the person who drank from it.
The author tries to appreciate the author's writing characteristics and thinks that "the sentences are beautiful and the descriptions are clever."
Zhuoxi Spring is located at the highest point of Longshan Mountain, giving people the feeling that there is no water at the top of the mountain. In the beginning of the poem, the author uses the phrase "Sansho flows through chalcedony", comparing Zhuo Xiquan to the essence of jade flowing out from the top of Sansho. Using this writing method makes the language of the article more vivid and vivid, both powerful and interesting. It is simply a stroke of genius.
Longshan is a beautiful scenic spot. The author uses "bamboo boils the sky and the clouds are cold", which seems to take readers back to the primitive era, giving people a clean feeling without worldly feelings. "The flavor of tea is conveyed outside, and the truth is put into the drinking bowl." Use the mountain spring water as precious as the essence of jade liquid from the tin stick in the hand of the Sixth Patriarch Huineng to make tea and cook. After tasting (eating), you will naturally be left with a mouthful Fragrant. The author brought the preciousness and role of Zhuo Xiquan to life in the poem.
Zhuoxi Spring stands on the top of Longshan, which looks like a dragon flag. The reflection in the water of the spring moves with the waves, making the shadows blurry and revealing the spirit of water. A flying dragon above is lifelike, with flying dragons coiling around, dancing dragons surging in the clouds, and flying dragons flying around the pavilion. A clear spring gushes out from a dragon's mouth above the dragon's body, gurgling and pouring into the pool. The spring water is crystal clear, like a bright mirror. It is Zhuoxiquan of Guoen Temple in Longshan.
…
Although times have changed, the faith and piety remain unchanged. For people of different eras, their expressions are the same piety and calmness. They still hold a handful of spring water to cleanse themselves from the worldly world. They also drink a sip of spring water to let the coolness enter their hearts. The body and mind are bright, quiet, transparent, and transcendent (this will be discussed later).
