The king of Wuyue built water conservancy and the seawalls were all built with huge stones.
For more than a thousand years, and to this day, these stone embankments continue to play a huge role. Qian Liu built such a huge water conservancy project at a cost of hundreds of millions, a large part of which came from donations from wealthy businessmen and laymen like Liu Junzuo...
Falling into dust in a single thought,
Greedy for wealth and not giving up wealth.
Send compassion to the bag for enlightenment,
After completing their meritorious deeds, we went to the Lingtai together.
After Budai monk left Hangzhou, he came to Mingzhou.
On this day, when he passed by the state government office, he seemed to be interested in the pair of mighty stone lions at the entrance of the government office.
He laughed and circled around the stone lion. Finally, he tapped the forehead of a stone lion with his Zen staff and said seriously: "Jiang Maha, do you still want to be a watchdog here? I will wait for you as a teacher." It’s been thirty years, when will I finally get the hang of it!”
This crazy Budai monk actually took a stone lion as his apprentice! The government officials at the door couldn't help but laugh.
The Budai monk didn't care about all this. He scolded the unlucky stone lion...
Jiang Zongba, the judge in Mingzhou, has been in a dilemma again these days. His heart was struggling in a sea of suffering...
The governor of Mingzhou and the zhizhishi (military and political director, who was under the governor) had different political opinions and the conflict was deep. The governor always wanted to oust the governor and replace him; but the governor took advantage of his power to make things difficult and suppress the governor, preventing him from getting ahead.
At this time, the Wuyue Kingdom was under the rule of Qian Liu. The country was peaceful and the life was prosperous. The main responsibilities of local officials were taxation and prison.
As the judge responsible for the entire state's prisons, Jiang Zongba has a heavy responsibility.
However, his two immediate superiors were at odds with each other, which made subordinate officials like him miserable.
It was like he was living in a crack, in a dilemma, with no peace. Whenever a case occurred, the governor ordered him to go east, while the envoy with the responsibility of supervision would force him to go west.
Under the constraints of the two of them, Jiang Zongba was unable to display his great abilities, and even the originally simple criminal case could not be solved.
Therefore, Mingzhou has a mountain of backlog of cases, which makes him seem to be an extraordinarily incompetent person. Faced with the complaints of the common people, the ridicule and ridicule of his colleagues, and the scolding and reprimands of his superiors, he had troubles to express.
On this day, Jiang Zongba was worrying about the pile of files when he suddenly felt a stick on his forehead, which made his forehead hurt.
However, this stick also made him suddenly realize: If he can't pursue his own political goals in his position, why should he stand on the front desk and serve as a scapegoat for his two bosses?
So he hung up his crown and seal and left without saying goodbye.
Jiang Zongba quietly left the state government office. On the cross street, he suddenly saw the crazy monk he had met at Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou more than 20 years ago.
His heart moved, and he stepped forward and asked, "Budai monk, why are you standing on the street?"
The Budai monk showed him his Budai and replied: "Alchemy."
Jiang Zongba was very knowledgeable about Buddhism and Zen. He immediately asked: "What kind of fate is there on the crossroads?"
Budai monk responded: "It's a good time to beg for alms on the crossroads."
Jiang Zongba was stunned and was thinking about how to answer. The cloth-bag monk picked up the cloth bag and left with a big laugh.
Jiang Zongba felt an inexplicable throbbing in his heart. The scene of the Budai monk talking more than 20 years ago was still vivid in his mind...
He suddenly understood that this seemingly crazy monk had predicted his future many years ago.
He also laughed three times and followed the Budai monk.
Decades ago, Jiang Xianxing, a native of Taizhou, served as salt officer of Mingzhou. Therefore, his son Jiang Guang settled down in Fenghua, Mingzhou.
Jiang Guangsheng had two sons, the eldest son was named Zongbai, and the second son was Jiang Zongba.
After Jiang Zongba abandoned his official position, he handed over all the family affairs to his son. He officially became a disciple of Buddhist monk Budai and became a layman.
He put aside all the fate and followed Budai monk all day long, traveling around.
After converting to Buddhism, Jiang Zongba was charitable, like his master, always smiling.
He asked Buddhist monk Budai for advice, "How do you do your homework every day?"
Budai monk said: "You must first calm down and then recite 'Maha Prajna Paramita'. It means 'enlighten with great wisdom and reach the other shore'."
From then on, Jiang Zongba always chanted "Maha Prajna Paramita", so the villagers called him "Jiang Maha".
Just as Budai Monk predicted, over time, his real name Jiang Zongba was gradually forgotten by people, and Jiang Maha became his official title. He also followed the trend and called himself "Maha layman".
It seems that in order to test Jiang Maha, the Budai monk took him to eat and sleep in the open air, often living in the wilderness. And when Yun You was on his way, no matter how far away he was, he always let Jiang Mohe carry all the luggage along the way.
Over time, Jiang Maha became unbalanced and thought: I am here to learn Buddhism from you, not to be your slave.
After all, he was born in an officialdom, so how could he ever have to work as a coolie like this? In addition, the complaints were too heavy and consumed a lot of energy, so he always felt very tired.
On this day, when they were passing through a river valley, Budai monk picked up a pebble with a beautiful pattern from the river beach. Needless to say, after playing with it and admiring it for a while, he placed it on Jiang Mohe's shoulders. But Jiang Mohe saw that the stone weighed twenty kilograms, so he couldn't feel its beauty anyway.
Not far away, when passing by a small mountain village, Jiang Maha asked to stop and rest for a while.
Monk Butai said: "People have potential that can be tapped. To learn Buddhism and practice Zen, only by mobilizing people's full potential can they respond accordingly. Therefore, you must learn to persist now. Persistence, persistence, and persistence are victory."
Jiang Mohe said with a sad face: "I have no strength at all, how can I persist? What's more, the burden is so heavy, I can't walk even one step."
"Really?" Budai monk asked.
"Of course! I'm so old, am I still lying? If I leave again, I'll be exhausted!" After saying that, Jiang Mohe really put down his burden and sat lazily on the side of the road.
Budai monk smiled, said nothing, and looked back and forth at the houses on the roadside.
At this time, a beautiful girl holding a basket came out of a house. The Budai monk seemed to have gone crazy and rushed towards her, reaching out to touch the girl's red face. The girl was so frightened that she dropped the basket and shouted: "Help! The monk is causing trouble!"
The girl's brother rushed out with a sharp knife, and the villagers also rushed here carrying sticks.
Darling, if you let them catch you, your life will definitely be in jeopardy! Budai monk ran away.
When Jiang Mohe saw it, he immediately picked up the burden and ran without hesitation. He passed the pot-bellied Budai monk in three or two steps and ran to the front. They ran a long distance in one breath, several miles in length, and did not stop until they were sure that no one was chasing them.
The Budai monk asked: "Disciple, you are carrying a heavy load, how can you run faster than me? Aren't you afraid of dying from exhaustion?"
"This..." Jiang Mohe was speechless for a moment. From then on, he did know that people really have potential that can be tapped.
As a result, his will became very firm, and he followed his master every step of the way, living in caves and graveyards without flinching. This is exactly:
Hidden in the breeze bag,
Mingyue Zangtou tune.
Wanshan bows at his feet,
A cloud comes into my arms.
…
One night, they returned to Fenghua County and lay on their backs on the big stone bridge where Budai monk used to sleep in the open. It was such a spacious house and such a wide bed.
Not long after lying down, Budai monk snored loudly and fell into a deep sleep.
After running around for a day, Jiang Maha was very tired and slowly fell asleep.
When it was late at night, a dark shadow suddenly flashed out of the bridge hole under the big stone bridge.
He was dressed in night clothes, tiptoeing, silently, and slowly walked towards the sleeping Budai monk...
Needless to say, this is a thief. He came specifically to steal the cloth bag of the Buddhist monk.
The Budai monk traveled around Hangzhou and Mingzhou, often performing some unimaginable miraculous deeds. Therefore, people gradually noticed him, especially the big Budai that he carried with him all the time. A miracle happens.
Some people say that this is a bag of heaven and earth, which can hold the sun, moon and stars in the upper part, and mountains, rivers and earth in the lower part;
Some people also say that in the cloth bag of the Budai monk, there are all kinds of treasures, which are inexhaustible and inexhaustible;
Some people say that this cloth bag can turn decay into magic, turn the dead into life, and turn bricks and tiles into gold and silver...
This greed suddenly aroused, and he wanted to steal this unparalleled treasure bag.
Budai monk and Jiang Maha were so asleep that the thief sneaked up beside them, still unconscious.
The thief felt secretly happy and quietly went to pull the bag.
However, Budai was pillowed under Monk Budai's head. If he were to pull it out rashly, the monk would be knocked awake by the back of his head hitting the bluestone.
The thief thought for a while, opened the bag, reached out and took out some sparkling things. He didn't know if they were gold, silver, or diamond jewelry.
The treasures in the bag seemed really inexhaustible. The thief only had two hands and couldn't catch much. So, he gently took off his coat, threw himself on the ground, turned around and took out the gold and silver jewelry in the bag.
However, when he was about to put the jewelry, he found that his coat was missing.
It turned out that Budai monk had already noticed the thief when he lurked in the bridge hole.
He wanted to see what the thief was going to do, so he pretended to be asleep.
Later, when he saw that the thief was greedy and wanted to use the gown to wrap gold and silver jewelry, he quietly stretched out his Zen staff and pulled the piece of clothing over.
At this time, Jiang Maha seemed to have heard the movement and said in a daze: "Master, there seems to be a thief."
Budai monk said: "Sleep in your sleep. In this peaceful world, there are no thieves anywhere!"
Jiang Mohe was sleepy and muttered doubtfully: "But, I seem to..."
"You must be dreaming, there are no thieves on our bridge at all."
Unexpectedly, the thief couldn't help but speak at this time: "Why is there no thief? The coat I just put on the ground disappeared when I turned around."
Budai monk said: "Who are you? I will send it to you when I find the clothes."
"I am..." The thief was about to announce his name when he suddenly realized that he was the thief! The thief is himself!
After his whereabouts were exposed, he wanted to escape, but found that what he was holding was not a jewelry necklace at all, but a strong rope.
God knows what happened, but his hands were tightly entangled and he couldn't break free no matter what.
At this time, the Budai monk sat up and said: "I have no money, what are you trying to steal? You are innocent in nature, why do you want to be greedy for money and profit, and taint your pure nature? You have been greedy for countless kalpas. You have made a mistake. You have suffered so much in reincarnation, why haven't you realized it? Now, you are stealing out of greed, and you are committing an unprovoked crime. If you continue to develop, you will definitely be in jail!"
The thief shivered, feeling a chill slowly rising from the depths of his soul. At the same time, he vaguely felt that he seemed to be sliding into a dark abyss...
Budai monk's voice was like a thunderbolt from the blue, blasting in his heart: "You have missed the good season, why don't you reflect on your own mind!"
The thief fell to his knees with a plop and cried in pain: "I am a thief by nature and I really can't control myself. Please save me, Master Butai."
Budai monk said: "You are motivated by wealth."
The thief said, "Yes, whenever I see someone else's property, if I don't try to steal it, I won't be able to eat or sleep."
Jiang Mohe interjected: "No wonder people say that one is afraid of thieves' intentions, and the other is that they are worried about thieves."
Budai monk smiled and said: "So, what about when you didn't see it? Before you had any intention or thought?"
"That's just like ordinary people, just like before I formed the habit of stealing."
Budai monk said solemnly: "Your greed will not arise until you encounter other people's property. From this we can see that not having a single thought is your true nature, and that is where you really settle down. From now on, greed will As soon as the thought arises, you immediately observe the place where it arises and investigate deeply the reason why it arises. Gradually you will find that it has no substance and will disappear at a glance. Habits can be formed and slowly changed. .The key is to have perseverance.”
The thief Nuonuo left.
Budai monk chanted into the night sky:
If you fail to steal money, you will lose your clothes.
Talk and reveal your traces.
Habits can never be changed.
The Buddha-nature is originally one.
Jiang Maha was very surprised when he heard this and said, "Master, are stealing nature and Buddha nature the same thing?"
Budai monk said: "Of course. Worry is Bodhi, that's what it means. Worry is like waves. It seems turbulent, but its essence has not changed. After it calms down, it is still water."
Jiang Maha was thoughtful.
A few days later, Master Budai and his disciple Jiang Maha came to Yingjia Mountain in the north of Fenghua City and lived in a thatched hut on the top of the mountain.
One evening, Jiang Maha walked towards the hut from the foot of the mountain with firewood on his shoulders and a bucket in his hand.
Budai monk stood at the door, pointed at him and chanted:
If your water is repaid,
You are drowning.
If your firewood is still dry,
Your body is burned by fire.
Burning and drowning are on the same journey,
I didn't realize the big dream.
…
Jiang Maha had a clear connection with his mind and immediately felt the Zen inspiration in Master's verse blowing towards his face like a spring breeze. He immediately asked: "How to subdue the delusional mind?"
Budai monk said: "What is the heart? It is a vain effort to surrender; there is no root in the delusion, and there is no trace of letting go. All conditions are turbulent, but there is true peace and tranquility!"
Jiang Maha understood that both the mind and the delusional thoughts are false and unreal. Therefore, the mind does not need to be tamed deliberately, and the delusional thoughts do not need to be deliberately removed.
Although there are many external factors coming, bustling and seemingly disturbing, our own nature is inherently pure and unshakable, and will not be polluted by worries at all.
However, although he understands the truth, he has not truly realized this state, so when he reflects on his own nature, there is still a trace of doubt in his mind.
Budai monk's Dharma eyes were as sharp as a torch, and he had already seen that he was still a little doubtful, so he suddenly shouted: "If the Dharma Realm is dignified, it can't be cut or blackened!"
When Jiang Maha heard the words, his ears were like thunder, his heart was clear and empty, and he suddenly became enlightened.
The master and the apprentice held up their arms and laughed, spreading joy throughout the mountains and fields.
The founder of Zen said: "You can't live in the mountain without breaking the original ginseng, and you can't retreat until you reach the prison." Jiang Maha's enlightenment only broke through the original ginseng, but has not yet broken through the final Zen level. Therefore, he wanted to retreat in Yingjiashan for a long time. Retreat.
The Budai monk said, "That's fine. If you stay in seclusion for three years and then travel with me for three years, Master, I will become the Maitreya fruit."
