Budai monk asked: "Tell me, where can I live?"

The "Diamond Sutra" says: "'The mind should be born without dwelling.' I think back then, Lao Na became enlightened after hearing these words." After the Sixth Patriarch Huineng sighed with emotion, he added, "So, Zen The heart is moving, and no dwelling is a tree. There is a lot of Zen in the words of Budai monk. Unfortunately, just like playing the harp to a cow, Qian Liu has no idea about the meaning of Zen, so he cannot open his mind to enlightenment. After understanding the highest wisdom of the universe and life, he still obeys Think about the problem in your own way."

Qian Liu said: "Master, if you can't find a place to live, you can go to Lingyin Temple. I'll say hello to the abbot. He won't dare not treat you well."

Budai monk said: "Lingyin Temple is too shabby and the houses are too few, not enough for me to live in."

Qian Liu said as a joke: "Then I will build 300 houses for Lingyin Temple. Will it be enough for you to live in?"

Budai monk said crazily: "Not enough is not enough. However, if you can really build 300 houses in Lingyin Temple, these merits will protect you and occupy the throne for thirty years."

Qian Liu felt that this monk was very interesting and laughed out loud. Perhaps he usually had a high position and was full of intrigues, so he had endless fun with the Budai monk.

He then joked: "What if I build 1,300 rooms? Can I stay in power for 130 years?"

"You are not a bastard, how can you live for such a long time!" Budai monk smiled and shook his head, "Besides, you are reluctant to give away so much money. You just need to pay back the debt. It will be done by your children and grandchildren in the future. Seventy-three years later, Your grandson will build 1,300 houses in Lingyin Temple, and by that time, I can live there permanently."

Qian Liu felt very funny and said: "Master Budai, I am not a bastard, and you are not a turtle. After seventy-three years, your bones will probably be rotten."

If a person's body does not exist, where is his body?

Qian Liu thought that what Budai monk said was crazy, so he didn't pay attention.

The Budai monk picked up his Budai and walked away leisurely. As he walked, he sang: "King of Yue, King of Wu, King of Wu and Yue, Qiantang pheasant turns into a phoenix, one thought of kindness is rewarded with good deeds, three generations and five emperors live for a hundred years."

Unexpectedly, Budai monk's words seemed absurd, but they all came true.

First of all, Qian Liu and Dong Changzhen lived in peace and harmony for ten years. In the chaotic years of the Tang Dynasty, the people of the two Zhejiang provinces finally had relatively peaceful years.

Later, Dong Chang proclaimed himself emperor and established the Dayue Luoping Kingdom in eastern Zhejiang. In the second year, he was defeated by Qian Liu and beheaded Dahao - just like Liu Hanhong. From then on, the two Zhejiang provinces were truly unified in the hands of Qian Liu, who was named King of Yue and formally established the Wuyue Kingdom. He reigned for exactly thirty years.

The Wuyue Kingdom founded by Qian Liu has been passed down to three generations for a full hundred years. Secondly, Lingyin Temple underwent two large-scale expansions during the Wuyue Kingdom. First, Qian Liu built more than 300 temples and rooms, which was initially revived. Later, Qian Hong, the fifth king of Wuyue Kingdom, made the second expansion in thirteen years. The reconstruction was completed. The main buildings at that time included the Heavenly King's Palace, the East and West Corridors and West Wings, the Liandeng Pavilion, the Dabei Pavilion, etc., with a total of nine floors, eighteen pavilions, seventy-two halls, more than 1,300 houses, and 3,000 resident monks. People are very prosperous for a while. What's even more amazing is that starting from the Five Dynasties, people started to dig grottoes and build Buddha statues on the rock wall of Feilaifeng in front of Lingyin Temple, which has existed for five generations now. There are more than 300 large and small grotto statues in the Song and Yuan dynasties. Among them, people in the Song Dynasty carved a smiling Maitreya Buddha statue with the image of Budai monk as the prototype. This Buddha statue is the largest among the Lingyin stone carvings. One of them - for thousands of years, Budai monk has really lived in Lingyin Temple (this is a story later).

In the ancient times, there were two Bodhisattvas with noble aspirations, one named Tiqiluo and the other Narai. They were pure and desireless in heart and peaceful and comfortable in appearance. In order to realize the most profound truth of life, they walked together.

Climbing over the top of the mountain that is unreachable by the world of mortals, crossing the top of the great river that is inaccessible to ordinary people, and hiding in the depths of the mountain, they abandon the bright lights and get close to the light of the stars and the moon, cut off the fireworks of the world, bathe in the breeze and white clouds, and stay away from the city. The hustle and bustle absorbs the mist of mountains and rivers...

Cut off half of the white clouds to mend your skin, leave a bright moon to read scriptures, plant three to five red plums as companions, and carry a few wisps of breeze to accompany you.

Qi Luo and Na Lai have souls as pure as crystal and minds as broad as space, so they can communicate with each other and promote each other. Their meditation skills are improving with each passing day. They practice the Four Zens diligently and finally obtain the "Five Wisdoms" - the five incredible things. His abilities include clairvoyance, celestial ears, other minds, fate, and wishes.

Across the mountains and mountains, you can watch the white clouds floating in the sky, and the spring, summer, autumn and winter pass by leisurely. Leaning over thousands of miles of gorges and listening to the green water seeping into the ground, I am so ugly that I don’t count the years.

Unknowingly, they have been practicing in the mountains for sixty years.

On this day, the two of them observed with their heavenly eyes and listened with their heavenly ears. They saw that in the country they were in, people did not know the six paths of reincarnation, did not understand karma, and often did evil in secret, and would suffer disaster later. They heard that the country The officials did not know how to restrain their desires and did whatever they wanted, and the people complained privately. Vicious curse, the country is about to fall into turmoil...

Qi Luo and Na Lai are great Bodhisattvas. They know that only by restraining one's own desires and calming one's mind can the country be stable, the society be harmonious, and life be happy. This is like having a voice first before there is an echo. Likewise, the two Bodhisattvas are thinking together about the best strategy to save this country and its people...

One night, Tijiluo and Narai each sat on their own futons, chanting sutras as usual.

In the second half of the night, Tiqiluo felt very tired, so he lay down and fell asleep. After a while, Nalai also felt a little sleepy, so he stood up and meditated (which is also a practice method). Since he was meditating while Okay, I was chanting sutras silently in my mind, so I didn't pay attention to my steps and stepped on Ti Qiluo's head.

Ti Qiluo was sleeping soundly when he was suddenly woken up. He was very upset and said in a daze: "Whoever stepped on my head will have his head split into seven parts when the sun rises tomorrow morning!"

Qiluo is a great Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva's vows are incredible. Whether they are good or bad wishes, they will all come true.

Na Lai said: "I stepped on your head without paying attention. I didn't mean it! Why did you make such a vicious oath? You have to know that even objects that you can't move will be moved by external forces." Friction and collision with each other, not to mention between people, who can guarantee that they will not make mistakes after being together for many years?"

However, it is difficult to recover the water. The vow of Tiqiluo has been spoken and cannot be taken back. Na Lai thought to himself: The oath given to Qiluo will definitely come true. When the sun rises tomorrow morning, my head will be split into seven pieces. What should I do? I also have to think of a way. As long as I control the sun and don't let it rise, my head will be fine.

Na Lai is also a Bodhisattva, with his own unpredictable magical powers. He really controls the sun and prevents it from rising again.

For five days in a row, the sun continued to sleep below the horizon, and the whole country was in darkness. Civilians could not produce, officials could not work, and the king could not handle state affairs. The country fell into chaos and fear...

The king hurriedly summoned his ministers and wise men to discuss the solution. Someone suggested that there was a clever magician living in the capital. He was good at astronomy, geography, fortune-telling, and knew everything. He was called a semi-immortal. Ask him to do the math. What happened if the sun didn't come out for five days in a row?

The sorcerer was invited to the palace. After making calculations, he said: "There are two Buddhist Bodhisattvas deep in the mountains. Some minor conflicts occurred between them. One of them controlled the sun and prevented it from rising."

The king asked: "Why are they in conflict?"

The warlock narrated the cause and effect, and the king said: "Is it worth it just because of such a small thing?"

The magician said: "It is indeed not worth it. But, king, think about it, aren't you like this? Aren't your officials and all the people in the country like this? They are always centered on themselves. With their own likes and dislikes. Follow the standards, do whatever you want, and do whatever you want. You don't think about others at all. For your own petty gains, you don't hesitate to hurt others, and even harm others without benefiting yourself, but you still enjoy it..."

The king and all the people reflected on themselves seriously and felt very ashamed.

The king asked the sorcerer, "What now?"

The magician said: "Your Majesty, you can lead the officials and ministers to them. Bow to them, confess your sins on the one hand, and mediate their conflicts on the other. They are all Bodhisattvas with deep compassion. Love all living beings more than anything else. Love yourself. So, if you ask in the name of the people, they will definitely resolve their conflicts and get back together."

The king followed the sorcerer's advice and took officials, ministers, squires and gentlemen to the ashram of Tiqiluo and Narai. He knelt down and kowtowed, saying: "It turns out that our country's stability and people's prosperity are all thanks to the grace of these two venerables. Now, The two of you are at odds, and the people of the whole country have lost their support. This is because I, the king, have no virtue, and the people of Li are not guilty. I ask you to reconcile for the sake of the people!"

Na Lai said to the king: "Your Majesty, please explain the truth to Qiluo. If the knot in his heart is opened, I will let the sun rise."

The king came to Tiqiluo's residence again and conveyed Na Lai's intention. Tiqiluo said: "I had no intention of killing him in the first place. I just made an evil wish on impulse. Please tell the king and let him Cover your head with mud and let the sun come out."

Na Lai covered his head with mud. When the sun rose to a pole high, the mud on his head split into seven petals, but Na Lai's head was not harmed at all. The king and his subjects were relieved. Come down. All rejoiced.

Tiqiluo and Narai lost no time in saying to the king and the accompanying subjects: "You see, we are old friends who have known each other for sixty years. If we do not understand each other, small conflicts will lead to such serious consequences. ! So you should respect each other, love each other, help each other, and think about each other first, and all conflicts will disappear."

Only then did people understand that the two Bodhisattvas saw the shortcomings of this country. The monarch and his subjects were like walking blindfolded in the dark, and were in danger of falling into the abyss at all times. Therefore, they deliberately caused The above changes prompted them to wake up from their confusion, repent of their sins, and move towards the light.

The king was deeply inspired and asked the two venerables for advice on how to govern the country.

Jiluo and Narai said to the king: "The leader of a country must govern the country with the four immeasurable hearts of kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. He must also persuade the people to follow the five precepts and do the ten good deeds."

They finally said: "In short, it is to refrain from doing any evil and practice all the good deeds. To purify one's mind by oneself is Buddhism."

The king and his subjects took the three refuges and five precepts in front of the two Bodhisattvas.

After the king returned to the capital, he immediately issued an edict, saying: "Regardless of their superiority or inferiority, citizens must always recite Buddhist scriptures and practice the "Five Precepts and Ten Good Deeds" as a matter of national governance. From now on, this country will have a tolerant monarch, clear officials, kind people, and law-abiding fathers. , mothers are respectful, children are filial, society is peaceful, and life is healthy.

Narai Bodhisattva is none other than the past incarnation of Sakyamuni Buddha, and Tiqiluo is the predecessor of Maitreya.
