The next day, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng recounted yesterday's dream to Zen Master Xuanqing.
Zen Master Xuanqing: "It seems that this is a dream entrusted by the Dragon Mother. Why doesn't Master give it a try according to the method?"
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng nodded and led everyone to the dry well.
The monks clasped their hands together and prayed to the sky: "Buddha bless me and help me succeed."
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng murmured: "If there is a spirit in the sky, it is willing to relieve the difficulties of the monks like us. I hope a sweet spring will emerge from under the staff." After saying this, he raised the tin staff high and inserted it hard into the dry well.
The sound of "chi", although not the sound of thunder from a heavenly drum, was like the sound of a yellow bell, and everyone felt their eardrums vibrating.
The tin staff had the power to crack rocks and open monuments, and penetrated the stubborn rocks blocking the spring.
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng pulled up the tin staff, and a stream of clear water gushes out from the hole, attracting onlookers to cheer in unison! The spring water that gushes out is very clear, and it quickly fills the dry well.
Zen Master Xuanqing took a scoop of water from the well with a melon gourd, put it to his mouth, and took a sip. It was extremely sweet and refreshing, like a fine wine. He was so excited that he beat the knot repeatedly and praised: "Good, good!"
The monks in the nunnery rushed to taste the well water. They felt that it was like a clear spring brewing, and it was extremely sweet. They were all overjoyed and beaming with smiles.
Zen Master Xuanqing said to the Sixth Patriarch Huineng: "Master came here, and with one stroke of his staff, the rain came. It is true that the Dharma is boundless. This is the blessing of our Buddhist sect!"
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng said: "The Buddhist land is blessed with sweet springs. It all depends on you and others doing good deeds and giving to all sentient beings. This can be said to be the first fruit of good deeds."
Zen Master Xuanqing looked at the Sixth Patriarch Huineng with gratitude and said, "Master said it well, do good deeds and give charity to save all sentient beings. This is what we should do."
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng said again: "The soil of this hill was originally fertile, but due to lack of water in the past, the vegetation did not grow and it was too barren. Now, there is a sweet spring flowing out of the well. Let's plant some flowers, plants and trees on this hill. .”
"Okay!" A smile spread across Zen Master Xuanqing's face, "But what kind of flowers and trees should I plant?"
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng said: "The three friends of Suihan are headed by plum blossoms. I think this soil is the most suitable for growing plum blossoms."
Zen Master Xuanqing: "I also have this opinion."
After hearing this, all the monks said that it was the best place to plant plum blossoms on this hill.
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng took matters into his own hands and planted plum blossoms around the nunnery.
Strangely enough, the plum trees irrigated by well water seem to be sprinkled with sweet rain, standing tall and full of vitality.
From then on, the nunnery was surrounded by plum blossoms. Every winter, the plum blossoms faced the new wind and bloomed in full bloom, dots of red, creating a spectacle.
There are records that in the second year of Qianhe in the Southern Han Dynasty (AD 944), monk Zhiyuan from Lianjiang traveled to Zhaoqing. In memory of the Sixth Patriarch Huineng, who planted plum trees in the west of the city, he expanded the small nunnery and created the Plum Blossom Temple. nunnery. Regardless of whether this is confirmed or not, the story that the Sixth Patriarch Huineng used a tin stick to divert water and plant plum blossoms as a mark has been widely circulated in the Xijiang River Basin. In the small nunnery on the hill where the Sixth Patriarch Huineng "planted plum blossoms as a mark", later generations will Named "Mei'an".
The dry well in Mei'an has been filled with sweet springs ever since, and it has not dried up for thousands of years. It is known as the "Sixth Ancestor Well" by the world.
Mei'an later became a world-famous Buddhist holy place due to its outstanding architectural style and the legend that the Sixth Patriarch Huineng once resided here.
…
The next morning, when the rising sun had just risen from the east, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng carried water and took a young monk with him to plant a plum tree on the hill as a mark.
Zen Master Xuanqing led all the monks in the nunnery to the bank of the Xijiang River to see off the Sixth Patriarch Huineng and others.
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng and his companions crossed the Xijiang River in a light boat. At that time, the north wind blew strongly, and the wooden boat sailed upstream along the Xinxing River with its sails raised high.
Along the two banks along the way, there are mountains in the distance and flowing clouds coming out of Xiu; nearby, phoenix bamboos are swaying and flowers are clustered in clusters.
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng stood on the bow of the boat, but he had no intention of admiring the beautiful scenery. He just wanted to return and looked eagerly at his hometown under the white clouds.
The Xinzhou area in Lingnan was far away from the center of power in the north and located on the bank of the Xijiang River. Although the current situation was turbulent, it was still able to avoid the war and remain in a peaceful corner.
In Xinzhou County, where Guangzhou belongs, there is a major river - Xinjiang. The river flows through the city, so the people in this city call it Xinjiang. However, the residents in the county neither call it Xinzhou River nor the County River, but rather proudly call it "Da Nan River".
If the mountain is not high, it will be famous if there are immortals; if the water is not deep, if there is a dragon, it will be spiritual. The water in the Dongmen River of the county town is not deep, and it is not very spiritual, but there are dragons. Legend has it that Ao Ya, the ninth son of the Dragon King of the East China Sea, was deeply loved by his father. The old Dragon King could not bear to let him stay away, so he sent him to Sealed in Xinjiang.
Xinjiang is only a short river of more than 300 miles. In this way, Ao Ya can ride the waves and return to the Dragon Palace of the East China Sea in the blink of an eye.
Because there are dragons living in the river, it is natural that the mountain on the bank of the Luxi River flowing into the Sinju River is called Dragon Mountain.
However, every advantage must have a disadvantage. After all, Longshan is too short and the flow of Luxi River is too shallow. Therefore, Long Ziao has to flood every autumn in order to ride the peak of the flood to go to the sea to visit his old father.
"During the Chinese Valentine's Day, peach blossoms bloom on the water, leaving nothing red on the river bank" - this is the romantic autumn water of the Xinjiang River; "The flowers on the river are as red as fire when the sun rises, and the river water is as yellow as gold when autumn comes" - this is the passionate autumn water of the Xinjiang River. Perhaps it’s because of the legend that the autumn floods in Xinjiang are neither romantic nor bright. There are always surging floods and rolling turbid waves.
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng returned to his hometown in the early autumn of this year, and Xinjiang was no exception. Before the Chinese Valentine's Day, the river swelled, floating with duckweed and foam, roaring from the upper reaches of the Luxi River towards the county seat...
Early that morning, the boat on which the Sixth Patriarch Huineng was riding had just entered the Chegang River section of the Xinjiang River when he suddenly heard the sound of water in the river and the roar of the waves.
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng subconsciously raised his head and found that the rolling river water was like a giant dragon with teeth and claws, roaring in and rushing away, with an unstoppable force.
The Sixth Patriarch Huineng lived in Xinzhou for more than 20 years and was used to seeing the peaks and turbulent waves of autumn floods. However, what surprised him was that in the sound of the waves, which was as low as the roar of a cow and as trembling as the thunder, there seemed to be a wisp of floating fairy music coming from the depths of the universe, reverberating between the waves...
Then, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng was even more surprised to see a golden lotus that he had never seen floating in the turbid river water.
It is huge and golden, and seems to radiate a wonderful light; it is graceful and graceful, as if it is in full bloom, as if it is exuding a faint fragrance; the most incredible thing is that a wisp of the familiar girl's fragrance that has not been seen for a long time is blown by the wind to Six Around Zu Huineng...
"Ah, Golden Lotus, Sister A-Lian!" The Sixth Patriarch Huineng was moved by the scene and shouted in his heart. He couldn't help himself, he couldn't help himself...
The curtain of memory slowly opened, pushing him back to the unforgettable years when he carried his mother to Tianlu Mountain and spent there...
Once, driven by his compassion, he released the sika deer, which caused a dispute and fight between the two villages due to misunderstanding. After his mediation, the war turned into friendship. After the people left with relief, he felt dry lips and tongue. When we arrived at Pinghu next to Fozi Pier, we walked over laughing and joking with Liang Jinlian.
