The Sixth Patriarch Huineng was concerned about Caoxi and chose a day to set off.
The people in front of the village shouted loudly: "Here we come, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng is here!"
Cao Shuliang hesitated and said: "No way? The Sixth Patriarch is the head of Buddhism in the South. Instead of riding in an eight-carriage sedan, you have to ride in a two-person sedan? How can you walk like a walking monk! Besides, the Sixth Patriarch There are at least several hundred people in his entourage. And these are only seven or eight people..."
The Sixth Patriarch and the others were getting closer and closer. Liu Zhilue finally recognized him and shouted: "Master Sixth Patriarch!"
Liu Zhilue ran to the Sixth Patriarch and was about to take his hand when he suddenly felt it was inappropriate and quickly knelt down and kowtowed.
Cao Shuliang and Wuwu Zangni Master also led the believers to kneel down in a hurry. The sound of gongs and drums rang loudly, and strings of firecrackers crackled and exploded...
The Sixth Patriarch came quickly, helped Liu Zhilue and Cao Shuliang up one by one, and returned the greetings to the masters and disciples of Wuhuizang after questioning them.
Liu Zhilue's voice was choked up: "Sixth Patriarch... Master Sixth Patriarch, I haven't seen you for sixteen years!"
"Yes! In the past sixteen years, I have dreamed of returning to Caoxi many times, and today I finally came back!" The Sixth Patriarch was also very emotional and did not hide his tears.
Cao Shuliang waved his hand, and eight large lanterns were hung on the temple door. He pointed at the lanterns and said to the Sixth Patriarch: "Master, look!"
The lantern has eight characters written on it: "Master Namo, the Sixth Patriarch". Under the lamp, four southern lions squatted happily. Suddenly, a gong sounded, and the lions started a joyful and festive dance. The gongs and drums sounded louder and louder, and the lions danced more vigorously. Everyone couldn't help but clap their hands and cheer, and the cheers thundered...
On the second day after the Sixth Patriarch moved into Baolin Temple, a grand sermon and teaching ceremony was held. Accompanied by the pleasant Buddhist music and Sanskrit sounds, the Sixth Patriarch sat on the Dharma altar and chanted Chiyun——
Good friends, I hope you can take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha of your own nature. Among them, Buddha means enlightenment, Dharma means correct Dharma, and Sangha means purity. Use your own heart to take refuge in enlightenment, and no evil will arise... In this way, all living beings will become noble enlightened beings.
Like the Buddha nature, the sky is always clear and the sun and moon are always bright; it becomes gloomy and dim because of temporary obstruction by floating clouds. Suddenly a breeze blows away the floating clouds, and it becomes clear immediately. People's minds are constantly changing like the clouds in the sky.
Wise people are as wise as the sun and as wise as the moon. Their wisdom is as bright as the sun and the moon. If you are attached to external things, you will be covered by your own delusional thoughts and your Buddha nature will not be clear and clear. If you meet eminent monks who practice Buddhism, hear the true Dharma, and eradicate your delusions yourself, you will be clear inside and outside, and your mind will be clear and you will see your true nature...
The Sixth Patriarch was giving lectures every day at Baolin Temple, and in a blink of an eye it was late spring.
One day, a small coffee table was set up under the corridor of the abbot of Baolin Temple. The quaint tea cup exuded a refreshing fragrance. The Sixth Patriarch and Cao Shuliang drank tea and discussed Taoism happily.
Cao Shuliang asked: "Master, you talked about Bodhi and enlightenment yesterday. Apart from transcendental practice, does Bodhi wisdom have any use in the daily lives of us people?"
The Sixth Patriarch said: "In fact, Buddhism is everywhere, and Zen is present all the time. It is related to everything in our daily lives. It exists in walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, in chopping wood and carrying wood. While we are working on water and planting land, the insights and regularities in our lives are the Dharma! Working wholeheartedly and with concentration is practice; understanding the truth of life and realizing truth, goodness, and beauty is enlightenment. "
Cao Shuliang said: "A few days ago, I went to Shaozhou City for business and met a scholar. He said that our Buddhist practice is too pessimistic and negative."
"What's wrong with being empty? To put it simply, if there is no certain gap between the vehicles on the road, if the room is full of solid matter, if you work twelve hours a day... then, what will be the result? "
After hearing this, Cao Shuliang smiled approvingly.
The Sixth Patriarch continued: "Only an empty depression can form a vast lake, an empty suona can make beautiful sounds, an empty universe can accommodate the sun, moon, and stars, and an empty mind can sparkle the spark of wisdom... What we say in Buddhism Prajna is the wisdom of emptiness, which is the wisdom of realizing emptiness. If you can cultivate your mind to be empty and upright, not even attached to life, and selflessly dedicate it to all living beings, then you can truly have a fearless spirit that actively saves the world! Some worldly scholars only Theoretically speaking, we talk about forgetting self-interest, but if we cannot see through ourselves in essence, how can we achieve complete self-forgetfulness?”
At this time, Yingxing came jumping up and down, saying:
The lying wheel has a trick, it can cut off hundreds of thoughts.
I can’t bear to feel sorry for the situation, and the days of enlightenment are getting longer!
The Sixth Patriarch waved his hand, called Ying Xing to him and asked, "Did you come up with this gatha?"
Ying Xing rudely snatched away the Sixth Patriarch and said: "The verse says 'Wo Lun has a trick'. Of course it was Wo Lun who thought of it. If I had written it, wouldn't it mean 'Ying Xing has a trick'? You still have six Zuli, what an idiot!"
Fa Kong glared at him fiercely, but the Sixth Patriarch smiled and said: "Okay, I am an idiot. However, this gatha does not show the true nature. I will sing a stupid gatha with him."
The Sixth Patriarch chanted casually without thinking:
The Sixth Patriarch had no tricks and kept thinking.
How long does Bodhi last for as long as you remember the state of mind?
Yingxing shouted: "Sure enough, a fool makes a stupid gatha! I am considering you as my teacher, so I have been deceived!"
The Sixth Patriarch was not annoyed at all. He looked at Ying Xing with a smile and said, "Then, you can be my master for a time and see where I am stupid?"
Yingxing acted like a teacher and said: "Prajna is the wisdom of emptiness. It should not think about good or evil. The heart is empty, empty, empty, nothing, nothing. But you say 'continuously' Thoughts', and also 'counting the objects' thoughts', can this be prajna?"
The Sixth Patriarch deliberately teased Yingxing: "Then please tell me, what is the true 'emptiness' of Prajna?"
Yingxing began to sell the half-understood theory of "emptiness" that he heard in daily life: "Prajna emptiness means the emptiness of the heart, the emptiness of the Buddha, the emptiness of all living beings, and the emptiness of the three layers; the emptiness of phenomena, the emptiness of essence, and the emptiness of self-nature. Because everything is empty. They are all empty, so there are no worries to be eradicated, no Bodhi to be realized, no confusion and no enlightenment, no ordinary and no saints, no giving and no receiving..."
The Sixth Patriarch listened quietly.
Just as Yingxing's theory of "emptiness" was flowing down like a mountain waterfall, the Sixth Patriarch picked up a fly whisk and knocked on his forehead.
Yingxing was naturally very angry: "You, an old monk, hit people when you can't argue with them. What's the point of this?!"
The Sixth Patriarch smiled and said slowly: "Since everything is in vain, may I ask, Yingxing, where does your anger come from? Why do you get angry? Since there is nothing to give and nothing to receive, that means I didn't hit you and you didn't get beaten. What are you calling?”
Yingxing was stunned on the spot.
The Sixth Patriarch laughed: "You, you, little Yingxing, the 'emptiness' that Prajna has realized is not the 'stubborn emptiness' of nothingness! Besides, as long as a person is alive, it is impossible for him to think of nothing in his heart! Therefore, Not thinking about good or evil does not mean that you have cut off your thoughts and become indistinguishable from good to evil, and that you are unclear about right and wrong. It means that you do not have any greed or attachment in the process of distinguishing between good and evil."
Yingxing patted his forehead: "Oh, by the way, you said that you should observe the true nature of things with an equal and non-distinctive mind. Right?"
The Sixth Patriarch nodded: "Yes, that's right. Bodhi is not in the distant kingdom of heaven, but is the most common thing in the world we live in."
A bright moon hangs in the sky, and Caoxi jingles in the moonlight, carrying the sparkling moonlight like a ribbon wrapped around the temple.
The main hall of Baolin Temple was brightly lit, and the monks who had been working all day were listening attentively to Master's teachings.
The Sixth Patriarch coughed slightly and said: "Everyone, the Dharma taught by the poor monk is straightforward, direct to the Buddha nature, without judgment or detours! In this Dharma of sudden enlightenment, as long as the Prajna of equality and non-discrimination is used, With empty wisdom, one can immediately see the original Buddha nature and become a Buddha immediately!"
At this point, the Sixth Patriarch, who was wearing cassock, shone like a solemn and sacred statue under the light of the lights.
