Just as Huiming was immersed in the fact that he was lucky enough to see the illusory spectacle of Buddha Sakyamuni in this life, Yingyin and others were already chasing after him in a hurry.
Yingyin asked Huiming eagerly: "Senior brother, have you caught up with that Huineng?"
Huiming pretended to be confused and said: "I went up to the mountain pass first and waited there for a long time, but I didn't see his shadow at all. I also asked the caravan from Shaozhou in the south, and they also said that they had never met anyone like Hui Ming. A person with that appearance. Maybe you are right, he did not take this path."
"I told you a long time ago that he will go back to Guangzhou directly along the road!"
"Then why are we lingering here? Let's go back and pursue that road!" Huiming seemed to have remembered something again and said: "Oh, by the way, everyone, from today on, I will change my name to Daoming. Please All brothers and sisters know this."
Yingyin was stunned: "Why...oh, you don't want to have the same sound as that Huineng, good, very good!"
Dao Ming curled his lips, said nothing, and led the monks to another road.
…
Hui Neng escaped from the pursuit and hurried on his way. After more than half a month of going around in circles, I arrived at Caohou Village by accident...
Huineng couldn't help but sigh: "It's been almost a year, how come I'm back in Caohou Village?"
At this time, the red sun was setting in the west. The urchin returning from herding rides upside down on the back of the buffalo, playing the piccolo, and lets the old cow stroll back leisurely.
Huineng was about to walk towards Caohou Village at the foot of the mountain when suddenly there was a sound of chanting.
Halfway up the mountain, there is a temple hidden among the green pines and cypresses.
"Ah, Shanjian Temple!" Huineng blurted out. It was the monastery of the abbot Wuwu Zangni and the place where he first lectured on Buddhist scriptures. After Huineng escaped from the pursuit, as soon as he saw the Shanjian Temple, he felt a sense of familiarity after a long absence. He strode towards the mountain temple.
When I arrived at the temple, I saw a familiar little nun coming out carrying a bucket.
Huineng stepped forward, clasped his hands together, and asked: "Little Master, are you..."
The little nun raised her head.
"Ah! It's you? Third sister!" Huineng recognized the little nun as Zhixiu.
Liu Zhixiu also recognized Huineng. He hesitated for a moment, lowered his head, and murmured: "Two... no, I am a poor nun like a ghost. May I ask the donor why you are here?"
Huineng couldn't help but cast his eyes on her face. Seeing her again after a long absence, she originally had too much to say. But somehow, he said without sincerity: "It's like an illusion, it's like an illusion, life is like an illusion, like a dream..."
It was also fate that Master Wuwunzang and the virtuous people of Caohou Village learned that Huineng had returned from Dongchan Temple and had attained enlightenment. They tried their best to persuade Huineng to live in Baolin Temple and promote his inspiring theory of "enlightenment and enlightenment".
Baolin Temple does not have any famous mountains or rivers to rely on. Zhou Kingdom is just an ordinary hillside,
Ordinary woods. But nearby there are forests of plum trees. Every time the plum blossoms bloom, the mountains and plains are covered with a layer of white snow. The plums here are big and sweet. Baolin Temple was later renamed "Nanhua Temple". "Nanhua plum" is famous far and wide as the best fruit in Lingnan.
Huineng came to Baolin Temple to promote Buddhism, and soon it became a holy place for promoting Buddhism.
While Huineng was preaching Buddhism at Baolin Temple, Yingyin and Huiming had already come along the hilly path in front of Dayu Mountain.
This is the only way for the official road from the Central Plains to Guangzhou. Huiming knew this well and took the opportunity to say: "Huineng didn't return to Lingnan at all. He must have gone to the famous mountains and rivers in the Central Plains."
"Yes." Those Zen monks who were tired of running around day and night agreed in unison and refused to pursue him any longer.
So they parted ways and headed back north; they continued south.
Yingyin continued to go south and finally found Huineng preaching at Baolin Temple. Determined to get rid of Hui Neng and avoid future troubles, he recovered his cassock, robe and bowl, and broke into the house as the Sixth Patriarch's shadow.
In order to protect Baolin Temple and the people at the scene, Huineng sneaked into the mountain behind the temple through the back door. This extremely vicious Yingyin even ordered the mountain to be set on fire, forcing Huineng to come out or burn him to death.
There was a "pipi bang bang" sound of fire burning the vegetation, and the mountain behind the temple turned into a sea of fire.
Huineng sat on the mountain, took out the golden cassock and put it on himself.
The fire was approaching him. He closed his eyes tightly, looked calm, and entered into meditation... The raging fire burned all night long.
After dawn the next day, Yingyin saw that the mountain behind the temple had been burnt to ashes. He revealed his ferocious face and said sinisterly: "This fire that towers into the sky will melt even real gold, let alone your human body." . Huineng must have been burned to death, and he will have no worries from now on." He led the monks back to Dongchan Temple.
Huineng was not burned to death, otherwise, the history of Buddhism would have been rewritten.
When Yingyin set fire to the mountain, Huineng was indeed hiding in the back mountain. He was surrounded by a sea of fire, and when he was desperate, he seemed to hear the voice of the Buddha coming from the sky in Gao Suimiao: Patriarch Liu and Liu, quickly put on the golden cassock on your body...
Venerable Kassapa, the founder of Zen Buddhism, used this magical power of meditation to hide in the mountain of Jizu Mountain, waiting for the birth of Maitreya Buddha.
The reason why Mahakasyapa hid in the rock was also for a cassock. In order to follow the instructions of Sakyamuni Buddha, he gave the golden cassock to the future patriarch, Maitreya Buddha.
After he had promoted Zen for more than a hundred years, he knew that his worldly destiny was over, so he passed on the Zen dharma to Venerable Ananda.
Then, he came alone to the foothills of the Himalayas in North India and came to a rock wall named "Chicken Foot Mountain" because its shape resembles chicken feet.
Venerable Kasyapa took out the golden cassock given to him by his master, Shakyamuni Buddha himself, and put it on himself. He smiled and clasped his hands together, stood quietly facing the wall... and entered a magical state of meditation.
Venerable Kasyapa slowly entered the mountain rock wall...
…
At this time, Huineng followed the example of his ancestor, wearing the golden cassock and sitting quietly on the big stone...
As a result, the mountain behind Baolin Temple shook, and the big stone emitted a dazzling golden light.
Oh my God, Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, used incredible concentration to slowly hide his body into the boulder, thus saving his life.
Hui Neng slowly woke up from the cessation of annihilation and slowly pulled himself out of the stone. It was already early morning.
Most of the flames on the mountain have been extinguished, and the surrounding area has returned to calm. Only a few places still have lingering smoke.
Hui Neng took off the gold cassock, unpacked it and put it in a cloth bag, straightened his clothes and left, his figure blending into the vast mountains...
After this catastrophe, Huineng knew that he could not settle down in Baolin Temple, so he wandered among the mountains of Huaiji and Sihui, planting land, collecting medicines, admiring the mountain scenery, listening to the deep valleys and springs, and appreciating the Enjoy the wild beauty of nature and cultivate your own mind.
On weekdays, Huineng continues to practice Zen on his own and understands the true meaning of Buddhist scriptures. He remains committed to this trip.
Relying on his extraordinary perseverance and firm belief, Huineng was hiding in the deep mountains and forests in the Huaiji and Sihui areas, although he was hiding in the mountains and forests, eating trees, grass and clothes, but he was keeping a low profile and practicing Zen on his own.
