After listening to Huiqing's tearful narration, he was about to say, "Why don't the outside world know anything about it?" Suddenly his mind seemed to be out of control, and the Sixth Patriarch possessed him, "Yingyin is so abominable, Senior Brother Shenxiu is no?"
Huiqing shook her head and told a little-known incident after the death of the Fifth Patriarch——
Shortly after the Sixth Patriarch left Dongzen Temple, and after the Fifth Patriarch passed away, Shenxiu also left. The young novice who was attending Shenxiu at Huangmei Dong Zen Temple went out to look for his senior brother.
On this day, the young novice monk traveled thousands of miles to find Yuquan Mountain.
He did not go to the temple to place orders, but walked deep into the mountains behind the temple.
Under a high mountain peak, there is a small Zen room hidden in a dense pine forest.
High mountains, dense forests and lush bamboos, and auspicious clouds lingering above the mountains, sheltering the Buddhist paradise;
The six gods are condensed and observed with a clear mind. The mind is filled with Dharma joy, nourishing the peaceful world of Zen.
The young novice opened the door and entered.
Sitting quietly in the hut is actually Shenxiu who disappeared in Huangmei!
"Your Majesty, I have found you!" The little novice lay on the ground, sobbing. How difficult it must be for a seven-year-old child to be alone in the vast land of the Central Plains, aimlessly searching for a person who has deliberately hidden his traces. ! Everything is in this cry...
Shenxiu opened his eyes, looked at the little novice monk in surprise, and said, "Oh my god, how did you find Dangyang Mountain!"
The little novice monk knelt forward, threw himself on Shenxiu's lap, and cried loudly: "Sir, I've had such a hard time finding you..."
Shenxiu stroked his back and couldn't help but burst into tears.
After a long time, the little novice's crying turned into sobbing.
Shenxiu wiped his tears and asked, "When did you leave Dongzen Temple? How are you, brothers and sisters?"
The little novice monk choked up and said, "Since Huineng left with you, Yingyin and Huiming went after Huineng to seize his mantle, so I went down the mountain. I asked all the way, and finally found this place."
Shenxiu said anxiously: "Yingyin and Huiming are so outrageous that they are worse than ordinary people. They are all nonsense!"
The young novice said: "They said they would take back the mantle and give it to you."
Shenxiu said with great disgust: "Huh, people's hearts are unpredictable. They are doing their own selfish things in my name."
The young novice monk added, "Most people in the temple believe that Huineng is illiterate and unworthy of the position of the Sixth Patriarch."
Shenxiu looked at the little novice monk and said, "All the wonderful principles of Dharma have nothing to do with words. Junior Brother Huineng has the wisdom of no teacher and has a deep understanding of the superior Buddhism. I cannot compare with him. His verses make me wake up from a dream and benefit from it." It's very simple. Besides, the reason why the master passed on his mantle personally is because he has the ability to discern opportunities wisely."
The young novice woke up from a dream and asked anxiously: "Sir, what can we do? They will not give up until they achieve their goal."
Shenxiu thought for a while and said: "The Ji people have God's blessing. They will not succeed. However, if they make such a fuss, how can I see Junior Brother Huineng in the future..."
Just as Shenxiu shook his head and sighed, suddenly, Zhu Fachong's "Poem Ode" was faintly heard outside the door:
The spirit of Haoran is still in my mind.
People in the mountains and forests go back and forth but never turn back.
This "Poetry" is Shenxiu's favorite one. The poem uses Buddhist imagery to chant the Buddhist realm and express her seclusion, forming a unique Buddhist recluse poem.
At that time, the Lushan Poetry Monk Group, centered on Huiyuan, a disciple of Dao'an, attracted a large number of monks, celebrities, and hermits. They sang poems, drank wine, and secluded themselves in Buddhism. Monks such as Kang Sengyuan and Zhu Fachong all wrote a large number of hermit poems with a poetic style. Quiet and elegant, it had a great influence at the time.
This poem is also a portrayal of Shenxiu's state of mind at this time.
Shenxiu opened the door and came out. Outside the house, the Jade Rabbit is rising in the east, the wind is blowing in the trees, but where is the sign of anyone?
So, was it an illusion just now, or was it an echo from the bottom of my heart?
There is a response when you feel it, the bright moon thousands of miles away shines with the same light; it is inorganic and indestructible, and a Zen heart is dust-free. Shenxiu was walking in the forest. The mottled moonlight on the ground became lively due to the disturbance of his footsteps, like a group of naughty elves, jumping and hiding around his feet, and it seemed that they could hear the giggles...
The night is as quiet as water.
As a result, Shenxiu's state of mind gradually calmed down.
He clasped his hands together, faced the mirror-like moon, and murmured to himself like a prayer: "My beautiful heart is like the bright moon in the sky. Junior Brother Huineng, do you understand..."
Somehow, at this time, Huineng was deep in the big rocks in front of Baolin Temple, and he seemed to hear someone calling him.
As a result, Huineng slowly woke up from the state of annihilation. He slowly pulled himself out of the stone.
…
With tears in his eyes, Zhang Shaofei knelt on the ground and said in a choked voice: "Master, I came to Dongchan Temple to seek Dharma because I longed for complete liberation in my heart, not to be the Sixth Patriarch. The reason why I wrote a verse on the south corridor , I felt that Shenxiu’s verse did not understand the true nature, so I expressed my opinion. Therefore, I..."
As soon as Zhang Shaofei said these words, Hui Qing was so shocked that he fell to his knees, staring in shock and holding his tongue: "You...ah! The sixth...sixth Patriarch Huineng Hui...is back..."
Zhang Shaofei helped Hui Qing up, and then said solemnly: "Little Master, you are mistaken. I am not the Sixth Patriarch Huineng. I am really sorry. In my confusion just now, I said the wrong thing, which caused you to misunderstand me."
Huiqing looked at Zhang Shaofei in front of her steadily, thinking to herself: Apart from his appearance, his speech and behavior are undoubtedly the same as those of Huineng back then... If not, how could he say these words? It’s incredible…
Just when Huiqing was lost in thought, the unhurried bell suddenly sounded. Like an invisible sledgehammer, it broke through the floating clouds over the mountain temple and shattered the diffuse fog, making people's troubles seem to escape.
Hearing the sound of the bell, worries will be relieved, wisdom will grow, Bodhi will increase, and I am willing to become a Buddha and save all living beings.
The sound of temple bells floats in the wind, sometimes softly and sometimes loudly. This intermittent and intangible sound of the bell makes people endlessly reverie. Like bathing in a clear spring, the mind and body are pure. The distant and long bells echoed over the Buddhist temple, making it seem particularly solemn and sacred.
Zhang Shaofei felt a kind of spiritual shock. He couldn't help but kneel down in the direction of the temple, lying on the ground with his whole body, as if passionately throwing himself into the warm embrace of his relatives.
This Dongchan Temple was originally built by Huan Yi, the governor of Jiangzhou, for Zen Master Mengyuan. It was named because it is located to the east of Shuangfeng Mountain.
After Hongren succeeded the Fourth Patriarch Daoxin as the abbot of the Shuangfeng Mountain Dojo, it continued to expand and grew in size. It also became famous when a famous monk came to serve as the abbot, and it became a famous Buddhist temple.
The Fifth Patriarch Hongren served as the abbot here. After opening the Taoist temple, he opened the door to many people and attracted many disciples. He became famous all over the country and attracted believers from all over the world. There are more than 800 permanent disciples in the temple.
Huiqing and Zhang Shaofei were silent. At this time, they saw a monk in his fifties walking towards this side from the temple in the Shanmen Hall of Dongchan Temple.
His Taoism is profound, his silver beard is elegant, and his temperament is pure and noble, as if he has never eaten the smoke and fire of the world and is not touched by the dust of the world.
He walked out of the mountain gate hall and stood on the high steps, as if he was alone in the world, just like the green pines in the wind, and the hunting mountain wind was blowing his monk's clothes, fluttering like a fairy.
A young monk saw him in the courtyard, ran to him quickly, stepped forward respectfully and saluted, and then asked: "Second Senior Brother, why are you out here?"
