Nanyang.
Ying Chengyu walked around the street and then went to the Nanyang County Magistrate's Office.
There is not much to see in Nanyang.
Among the many cities managed by hundreds of schools of thought, the development of cities managed by Confucianism was not as high as that of Taoism. But he couldn't be reduced to a lower level, and he managed it far better than the Wu Jin of Chu State.
Confucianism focuses on the golden mean.
Confucianism promulgated many policies:
When parents pass away, children observe mourning for three years.
When meeting an elder, the superior should salute and show respect.
Those with high moral standards are role models and are supported and worshiped by the government.
Those who act bravely will be rewarded, and the government will announce and distribute them.
…
If you look at these various policies just one by one, you can’t see their meaning, and they don’t seem to be of much help to the situation.
But when these policies were issued together and implemented in detail, they produced a combined effect - the city under Confucian management slowly developed.
Those who do evil are despised.
Those who do good are respected.
A city managed by Confucianism is the most polite and well-regulated city.
Ying Chengyu, who hated many rules the most, did not think this was a good thing, but he did not interfere with the development of the situation because of his own likes and dislikes.
Because of etiquette, these cities were freed from ignorance.
The changes in people's lives and the changes in the city's development are all moving in a good direction.
These are much more important than Ying Chengyu's own will.
In Korea, which had just overthrown the ruling class and was still not satisfied with food and clothing, under normal circumstances, Confucianism, which valued etiquette, could not stand firm.
The reason why Confucianism was able to open up the situation in Korea is that Confucianism borrowed the momentum of Ying Chengyu.
When Fu Sheng, the Confucian leader, entered Nanyang as a county magistrate, the first place he went to was not the county magistrate's mansion, but the Da Qin Academy.
The first article promulgated was not a government decree, but called on the people of Nanyang to come and read and learn the Confucian classics - Ying Chengyu's annotated version of "The Analects of Confucius".
Chang'an Lord Ying Chengyu has a high reputation in Korea. As the owner of Lu's Chamber of Commerce who led a group of Koreans to overthrow the aristocratic rule, the people of Korea recognize the three words Chang'an Lord far more than those who are right in front of them. The First Emperor must be taller.
With the words "Ying Chengyu's Commentary", "The Analects of Confucius" was briefly sought after by the people of Nanyang, and the Daqin Academy in Nanyang was overcrowded for a while.
Regardless of its intentions, from a factual point of view, Confucianism was the first among hundreds of schools to enlighten the common people and enable them to read and write.
Education is an extremely important part of Confucian rule.
Confucius said: There is no distinction without education.
Relying on the Xinzheng County Sheriff's Order obtained from Qiang, Ying Chengyu was led by Confucian disciples into the county magistrate's house.
The person who led him was very respectful and kept talking about the beauty of Lord Chang'an. He was truly a saint. From the door of the magistrate's house to the door of the main house, from the corner of the house to the corridor of the house.
A few months ago, because of the "whispering" in the court, many Confucian scholars were so angry that Ying Chengyu gnashed their teeth and wished that Zhu Zi, who was making nonsense of classics, would die.
As of today, it has been a two-level reversal.
Those who cursed Shuzi to die were the same Confucian disciples who now praise Chang'an Jun as a saint.
"Your Excellency, you are here with the county governor's order. What is the important matter?"
Fu Sheng, who was named by Ying Chengxuan and asked to meet him in person, stepped into the room, cupped his hands and bowed deeply.
There was a callus on his lips, his back was straight after the salute, and his face, in the prime of his youth, was full of high spirits and pride.
"I look much better than when I was in Xianyang."
Ying Chengyu said with a smile, without any pretense about guessing who I am, he raised his hand and took off his hat, revealing his true face.
Fu Sheng originally felt that the voice sounded familiar. Judging from Ying Chengyu's words, he must be a familiar person. He was searching for the person's name in his mind to find his seat.
When I see someone wearing a bamboo hat taking off his bamboo hat, I don't think about it in detail and just wait for the answer.
When he saw Ying Chengyu's appearance, he was suddenly startled and lost his voice:
"Chang'an Jun?!"
Fortunately, Fu Sheng was very polite and closed the door after entering. Although the sound was louder, it would not be known to everyone in the county magistrate's house.
"No need to make such a fuss."
Ying Chengyu confirmed Fu Sheng's guess.
Fu Sheng was about to salute again - the etiquette just now was for the governor and envoys, not for the monarch. There are many Confucian etiquettes, and different etiquettes should be performed for different people.
"There is no need for false courtesy. You know my character."
Fu Sheng still bowed deeply with a serious look, and when he bent down, his head almost hit his toes, and then he said:
"Fu Sheng paid homage to Lord Chang'an and thanked Lord Chang'an for his kindness to Confucianism."
Ying Chengyu accepted the gift forcefully and did not give way.
"Kindness without saying thanks."
"I'm a fool, not a saint."
"Now, it's time for you Confucians to repay me."
Fu Sheng's shocked expression immediately became solemn, and he raised one hand in vain.
"Mr. Chang'an, please speak."
Ying Chengqiao smiled and said:
"I want Confucians to abolish etiquette."
"I want Confucianism to have no aristocracy."
"I want Confucianism to teach the world."
Three sentences made Fu Sheng's expression change twice.
Of these three requirements, only the last one conforms to the Confucian position, while the first two are seriously inconsistent with Confucian ideals. To be precise, it is subverting traditional Confucianism.
Confucianism is an aristocratic doctrine, and Confucianism, which is committed to reviving the Zhou rites, still essentially uses the same rules of family and world control.
Like Mohism, Confucianism also advocates loving others.
But unlike Mohism's universal love, Confucian love has separate love.
Love your relatives more than your friends.
Love your friends more than you love passers-by.
Confucian morality is above the law.
If parents break the law and their children do not complain to officials, they will be punished. And those who report to officials will also be punished. And the punishment of the latter is much greater than that of the former.
In Confucianism, there is no such thing as the word "righteousness" to destroy one's relatives, only the word "unfilial piety".
This is the method Confucianism uses to govern the country, rule by ritual.
The same is true for the king and his ministers - the king treats his ministers with courtesy, and the ministers serve the king with loyalty.
The king should treat his subordinates with courtesy, and the subordinates should repay the king with absolute loyalty.
These strict etiquettes have become a cage that restrains the people, allowing them to learn how to be better ruled from an early age.
Of course, on the other hand, these etiquette maintain social stability. As for social stability, which is the main body of human life, the lives of most people are guaranteed. This cage not only restrains, but also protects.
"Mr. Chang'an, please forgive me for saying this..."
Fu Sheng refused with a livid face. Ying Chengyu didn't wait for him to finish and said:
"If it were not you Fu Sheng who was here today, but Chun Yuyue, I wouldn't come. I thought you would agree to my request."
The water was slightly cold when he picked it up, but the hot water was steaming when it was brought up. Ying Chenglong took a sip.
"Wu Shi, Tang Bing... these people are all your old friends. The city they govern develops much faster than Nanyang. Do you know why."
Fu Sheng remained silent and did not answer.
"It seems that I know."
Ying Chengyu crossed his hands and rested his chin on them.
"I want the people to study in Da Qin Academy and teach them according to their age so that I can understand them."
"I want people to serve their parents and set an example for those who are virtuous and respectable. I can understand that."
"What I don't understand is that if one's parents are deceased, one should observe mourning for three years and not be allowed to do anything else within three years. What's the point of this?"
Fu Sheng lowered his head slightly.
"This is what Confucius said in The Analects of Confucius, about..."
Ying Chengyu knocked on the table hard, interrupting Fu Sheng's words with a dull sound.
"I know the source, I don't need you to tell me."
"I now want you to explain to me what this means."
Fu Sheng followed closely and said:
"After a child is born, it takes three years to leave the arms of his parents. These three years are the most difficult and difficult time for parents."
"Therefore, after the death of their parents, children should observe filial piety for three years to repay their parents for their kindness in raising them."
"Observe filial piety for your parents for three years. This is what the Zhou Dynasty did."
After pausing for a moment, Fu Sheng saw that Lord Chang'an was still looking at him, and Fu Sheng said again:
“The more people value filial piety, the more they will know etiquette, justice and integrity. Only when etiquette is valued in the world can peace be achieved and a prosperous age be achieved.”
Ying Chengyu high-fived and smiled.
"color."
"You finally told the truth, even though it was only half a sentence, it is very valuable."
"This peace is not the peace of your life, nor is it the peace of the common people. It is the peace of the superior."
"This prosperous age is not the prosperous age of your life, it is not the prosperous age of the common people, but the prosperous age of the nobles."
What was served was a teacup filled with hot water instead of tea soup.
If it wasn't for Fu Sheng's negligence, it was because the county magistrate's highest standard was only hot water. But there is no tea soup that is very turbid and can only be enjoyed by nobles.
As the magistrate of Nanyang County, Fu Sheng did not enjoy the things that a superior person should enjoy.
Fu Shengping looked at Ying Cheng and asked:
"Isn't Chang'an Lord a superior? Aren't you a noble?"
"I am naturally a superior and a noble."
"In that case, why should we turn against ourselves?"
"Because I'm unhappy."
Ying Chengqiao looked at Fu Sheng's puzzled eyes and said with a smile:
"Filial piety is a virtue, respecting teachers and treating others with sincerity is also the right thing to do. These are all excellent."
"These excellent things should be promoted, but they should not be used as tools for control. This makes me feel very uncomfortable, very uncomfortable, and I want to rebel."
rebel?
Fu Sheng was startled, unsteady on his feet, and took half a step back, with a look of fear and confusion on his face.
Judging from the attitude of the First Emperor during the wax ceremony, Fu Sheng, who was not good at dealing with people, could tell that the Second Emperor of Qin might not be the Crown Prince Ying Fusu, but the Lord of Chang'an in front of him.
And after the wax ceremony, rumors of "one son established two kings" and "Chang'an Lord gave the throne to His Majesty" also spread among the ministers.
Fu Sheng, who heard about it, didn't believe it at first, but after seeing that the First Emperor showed no signs of stopping him, and that the old ministers' oral accounts of the past were consistent with almost no deviations, he was still doubtful.
Why would such a noble person in the world, who was born into a royal family and is expected to ascend to the throne or even give up the throne, have such rebellious thoughts - I am against myself?
Such an idea should only be thought of by a great Confucian who came from a humble background, studied and discovered the essence of Confucianism - such as Fu Sheng himself.
If you have not experienced suffering, you cannot understand suffering.
Ying Chengxuan stood up from his seat and walked around the table, which was only made of a piece of inferior wood.
"Parents love their children. This love is not mixed with utilitarianism and does not pursue rewards. However, Confucianism insists on defining this love and stipulates that failure to observe filial piety for three years is an unfilial etiquette for parents."
This is not determined by Confucianism, this is determined by the Zhou Dynasty... Fu Sheng said in his heart.
Although the words were not spoken, there was something strange on his face, and Ying Chengyu saw it at a glance.
"A disciple of Confucius asked Confucius: 'Three years of mourning is too long after your parents die. One year is enough.'"
"Confucius replied: 'Your parents ate polished rice and wore brocade clothes less than three years after their death. How do you feel at ease?'"
"Zaiwo said: 'Peace of mind.'"
"Confucius said: 'If you feel at ease, just do it. When a gentleman is in mourning, he will not feel sweet when eating delicious food, he will not feel happy when listening to music, and he will not feel comfortable living at home. Now that you feel at ease, just do it.'"
"This is described in The Analects of Confucius. Isn't my interpretation a misinterpretation?"
Fu Sheng smiled and cupped his hands slightly.
"What Chang'an Jun said is exactly the true meaning."
Ying Chengyu nodded with satisfaction.
"very good.
"Would the deceased parents want to see their children live a hard life for three years, unable to eat polished rice or silk? No."
"They went through the hardest three years before their children were three years old and did not give up on their children. They did not want their children to suffer for three years after they died."
"The one who made his children suffer for three years is a Confucian, a Confucian, a superior, a noble!"
"I hope this will make people all over the world bend their knees and their bodies, so that they can burn away their blood and learn to obey!"
Hearing such treacherous words, Fu Sheng still kept a smile on his face and did not refute.
Ying Chengqiao waited quietly for Fu Sheng to argue, but before he could speak, he took a deep look at Fu Sheng, who was still smiling.
Sure enough, my guess was not wrong. Fusheng, a great scholar who was proficient in Confucian classics and the successor of "Shangshu" in later generations, could not know the inner purpose of Confucianism...
"Promoting filial piety must not deviate from humanity. When my father was alive, he often laughed because of me."
"I solve my father's problems and serve my father. After my father passed away, I did not observe filial piety for three years. In my opinion, I dare to ask whether I am a filial piety or an unfilial one?"
Fu Sheng smiled and said:
"The late King Zhuang Xiang was committed to unifying the Qin Dynasty. His thoughts were mostly on state affairs and less on family affairs. During his reign, the factions in the court were mixed."
"I was born in Xianyang and heard many rumors about Lord Chang'an. If Lord Chang'an is really what everyone wants, he will consolidate the power of the Qin State. He will handle the affairs of the state for his late father, and no one will be dissatisfied. Retrieve His Majesty the First Emperor, and solve the problem of the late King Zhuang Xiang. Give up the throne to his brother, and complete the work of his father. My father’s last wish is to unify the world.”
"State affairs, family affairs, big and small matters, all are handled by Lord Chang'an for my father. In terms of filial piety, there is no more filial person in the world than Lord Chang'an."
Ying Chengyu walked into Fu Sheng, scratched Fu Sheng's face, and carefully observed the skin color at the root.
"Are you really Fu Sheng? Aren't you Zhou Qingchen wearing a human skin mask?"
This flattery is really loud.
Ying Chengyu raised his arms, stretched out, covered his mouth and yawned.
"It seems that my husband and I have reached a consensus."
"To show filial piety to one's father and mother, one should do it during one's lifetime. Sitting there for three years after death is not to show one's filial piety to one's father and mother, but to show one's filial piety to those in power."
"The deceased has passed away, but the living is like this. This is what fathers and mothers want, and it is the filial piety in human nature."
"There are many of these in Confucian etiquette, but they are all abolished. The Taoists are in full swing building a new home, and a group of people here are observing filial piety in front of the tomb. How can they be compared to the Taoists?"
Fusheng, a great scholar who was obsessed with classics and did not care about worldly affairs, held his hands in front of him.
"only."
good.
He said in his heart.
