Monks generally appear to be ascetic people, but there are a few exceptions.
There are some monks who, although they have the appearance of monks, do not have the virtues of monks. Not only are they not bound by the precepts, they also often go to the land of romance. This is the flower monk. However, there is another type of monk who is neither an ascetic nor a flower monk. He looks a bit like an enlightened monk, but he often acts as willfully as a child.
Although they also practice hard in mountain temples, their lives are not lacking in color. On the contrary, their attitude towards life is even more optimistic than that of some ordinary people. They always face life with a smile, so we can also say that they are smiling monks.
Due to geographical reasons, Guanfo Temple is located on the top of a cliff, making it inconvenient to get up and down. Therefore, there are very few people who go up to worship Buddha, and the temple is very calm. Not only that, there are only two monks left in the temple, one old and one young, and it seems that they may stop serving as monks at any time. But the life of these two monks, an old one and a young one, in the temple is not boring, but also very interesting.
No one knew the origins of Master Wuchen, the abbot of Guanfo Temple. Even Ren Xiaoyao only knew a little bit about it. There were many things Wuchen didn't want to say more about, so he never asked. Although they are good friends, they are just acquaintances between gentlemen. Occasionally, Ren Xiaoyao would give some sesame oil money to Master Wuchen, but he would only receive one-tenth of the money. This was still out of friendship. If other rich squires came to give them as gifts, he would not accept them at all.
Originally, the incense at Guanfo Temple was not too bad, but because Wuchen was always eclectic and almost refused gifts from most of the worshipers, the incense at Guanfo Temple gradually declined. Because most people who have been to Guanfo Temple know that Wuchen, the old abbot here, doesn't like others giving money or gifts.
Nowadays, Guanfo Temple hardly receives any money for sesame oil, but there are still some devout believers who take the trouble to go up the mountain to pay homage. Ren Xiaoyao, the leader of Xiaoyao Sect, is one of them.
Perhaps, some people may think that by doing this, Master Wuchen is not looking at the real reason for the decline of the Buddhist temple? However, Master Wuchen has his own opinion. He believes that if the worshiper is not sincere and is just going through the motions, it is better not to worship. Therefore, he declined many pilgrims who only relied on money and materials but did not sincerely worship Buddha. If true believers and monks of the Red Buddha go to the mountain, they will definitely treat them with sincerity, treat them as honored guests, and become close friends.
As soon as Ren Xiaoyao, Tang Mugong and others got off the boat, they saw Liao Yuan, a disciple of Master Wuchen, waiting by the cliff.
The young monk received everyone, so he led the way and was the first to go up the mountain along the steep bluestone staircase. The bluestone path is not only extremely steep and dangerous, but also has many criss-crossing paths, making it extremely difficult to walk. But the little monk seemed to be walking on flat ground, looking very relaxed and without any feeling of difficulty.
Although Ren Xiaoyao, Tang Mugong and others are top experts in the world, Qing'er and the others are also weak women, so it is a bit difficult to climb the mountain.
Although the young monk's martial arts skills are not high, he walks on this mountain road several times almost every day. The road is relatively familiar and he has already become accustomed to it. In addition, he also has some martial arts skills, so going up the mountain is very easy.
After a lot of effort, everyone finally reached the top of the mountain, and when they looked down the mountain, they found that it was indeed a place of tranquility like a paradise, with green mountains and green water, birds singing and the fragrance of flowers, rugged rocks, and cliffs reaching into the clouds.
"Liao Yuan, what is your master doing?" Ren Xiaoyao asked.
"My master knows that all the donors are coming, and there is no wine in the temple, so he is making wine!" Liao Yuan replied.
"Your master can also cook wine?" Tang Mugong couldn't help but ask after hearing this.
"Of course! The master can make everything. The master doesn't like gifts from others. Almost everything that is used in the temple is made by the master himself. Except for some things that cannot be made because there is no material, he will go down the mountain to buy them.
"Then what things in your temple did you buy down the mountain?" Tang Mu asked casually, but he didn't take it seriously.
Unexpectedly, after hearing this, young monk Yuan thought seriously for a long time, pinched his fingers for a long time, and then finally said: "It seems that only the little golden Buddha worshiped by Master went to the foot of the mountain to ask someone to help beat it."
When everyone heard this, they were all stunned. Tang Muxian didn't believe it at all, and asked again: "Apart from the little golden Buddha, is there nothing else?"
Li Yuan thought about it seriously again, and then said seriously: "Since I can remember, there seems to be nothing else except the little golden Buddha! Oh! That's right! The little golden Buddha was originally the old donor Ren Ren a few years ago. Master was never willing to spend some gold bars given to Master. He originally wanted to make a golden Buddha himself. But Master calculated and felt that the gold was not enough and the resulting golden Buddha would be very small, so he went down the mountain. I exchanged the silver for some gold, and found a master to build the little golden Buddha."
When everyone heard this, they were even more stunned: "According to your opinion, if your master has enough gold to hit the Golden Buddha, he will hit it himself?" Tang Muhe couldn't help but ask.
"Of course, the weapons in our temple were all made by the master himself. Even the iron sand was mined and refined in the mountains by the master." Liao Yuan was very proud when he said this, as if he thought his master was great.
"It seems that your master knows quite a lot. He not only knows how to cook wine, but also forges iron." Qing'er also praised.
"Isn't that right! I told you that my master knows everything!" Liao Yuan said even more proudly.
"Master Wuchen really knows a lot of things. You will know when you meet him later." Ren Xiaoyao finally said something for the young monk.
"I don't believe it. There is nothing else in this mountain but you bought it." Qing'er seemed unconvinced and said angrily.
"No." The young monk didn't give in at all.
"You monk robes?"
"My master wove the linen himself, and he also picked the flax himself." The young monk replied.
"Could your master also make your bowls?"
"There is a large kiln on Lingyun Mountain, and our bowls are all burned in that kiln. If we burn too many bowls, we take them down the mountain to sell them," the young monk replied.
"Then your cigarettes, incense and candlelight, you can't do this yourself, right?" Qing'er asked again.
"It can be done. Whenever I have nothing to do, the master will ask me to go to the mountain to collect pine oil. After collecting it, the master will melt it, add some incense herbs, pour it into the prepared bamboo tube, and then put it on a A candle wick soaked in sesame oil is made after it solidifies. Such a good candle can not only provide lighting, but also repel mosquitoes." The little monk said it eloquently. He must have followed the master's example and did it himself. I can't help but make others disbelieve me.
