Preface | In memory of Ava Morgan - Jane Hurstard

In June of this year, Ms. Clifford told me that the book "The Autobiography of Ava Morgan" was basically in preparation. She asked me if I would like to write a recommendation preface for this book. I was very surprised and agreed immediately.

There is a wonderful coincidence here. I am seventy-two years old this year, and when I first met Ava when I was twenty, she was also seventy-two. I was going through the lowest point in my life at that time, and Ava was very generous in giving me some help. I can't imagine what my life would be like today if I hadn't met her at that moment. Just like what she told me back then, our destinies have always been closely linked. Over the years, this sentence often echoes in my mind. ear.

When the manuscript came in the mail, I was very surprised - I didn't expect the book to be so short, less than 80,000 words, but it really fit my impression of Ava. She rarely talked about specific things. In the past, if it hadn't been for Ms. Anna's repeated persuasion, this thin book probably wouldn't have survived.

Due to some well-known reasons, the Ava Morgan Award has been suspended for nearly thirty years. The foundation was reorganized last year, and I can finally see this beautiful tradition continuing again. I have been lucky enough to maintain a friendship with Ava for nearly ten years. Her tenacity, far-sighted vision, almost strict self-discipline and never-ending pursuit of the ideal world have deeply affected me.

For many young people today, the name Ava Morgan has been firmly associated with the old world. We hate the past so much that we don’t even want to let our eyes stay on those people and events soaked in blood and tears. I just want to move forward with enthusiasm. Last year, I saw the slogan “Let everyone’s happiness be as natural as breathing” in many places. I know we have achieved some success, but at the same time, I also sense some dangers. Some history has just passed, and some of us are already beginning to forget it. Once someone starts to reminisce about the past, there will immediately be voices saying that those past memories full of failures are not worth chewing on.

However, my opinion is completely opposite. If you don’t know that the happiness in your hands was obtained through repeated struggles by previous generations, then when this happiness is taken away, you will also not know how to defend it; no right is taken for granted. It should be like this. If anyone thinks so, then this is the beginning of her losing power again.

Happiness is as natural as breathing. I have no dissatisfaction with this slogan. On the contrary, I think it does point out what needs to be vigilant - we are breathing every moment, so we often forget this matter. However, things The seriousness of it is that even if we forget to breathe, our breathing will not stop. However, once we forget that the territory we have worked hard to develop under our feet needs to be defended at all times, then it is only a matter of time before we lose it completely.

As Ava said, no generation can rest. Now we are standing under the shade of trees planted by our predecessors, and the seeds planted today will also change the destiny of those who have not yet been born. Don’t forget that our destinies are always closely connected, and don’t forget how we got here. I believe that as long as there are still people among us who can inherit this belief, the world will have a bright future.
