It is said that every region has a monster specifically designed to scare children.
When I was a kid, every time we wanted to play and didn’t want to sleep at night, my grandma would tell us
"If you don't sleep, the giant monkey will jump in and snatch you away!"
Children in the Northeast, as soon as they hear the word "big horse monkey", they will immediately cover their heads with a quilt in fear.
The giant monkey in my grandma's mouth is covered with thick hair, and its sharp mouth and fangs are extremely scary. It also specializes in catching children. It will dig out the children's eyes, tear open the belly, and rip out your intestines and heart to eat.
If you ask me what my childhood shadow is, then I will definitely blurt out that it is the big horse monkey.
It’s not because adults always use it to scare disobedient children, but in my hometown, some strange things related to the giant monkey really happened, and I also saw this legendary man-eating beast with my own eyes.
The story begins eighteen years ago, when I was eight years old. During the winter vacation, because my parents were busy at work, I was sent to my grandparents’ house in the countryside.
It was a remote and poor mountain village, with only about twenty households in the whole village.
In the northeastern mountain villages of the 1990s, every household had a "cement house" built with loess and mud, and the two dirt roads in the village were also full of potholes.
Every time I go back, I resist. Firstly, there are not many children in the village, and there are not many children my age. Secondly, at night, especially in winter, the lights in the village are turned off early.
Once I showed that I didn't want to sleep, my grandma would bring out the big monkey to scare me, so that I didn't dare to open my eyes when I wanted to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, and I held it in until dawn.
That day, a guest came to my grandfather's house. I heard that he had left the village to work. By chance, a neighbor who had made a fortune came back. Since no one had lived in the house for several years, the women of the house stayed at home to clean. The father and son brought wine and food to my grandfather to reminisce about old times. .
Even though I grew up in the city, I have never seen so many delicious foods on the table. Roast duck, pork head, tenderloin and sausage, which you will never see before the Chinese New Year and major festivals. There are also several fruits that are only found in the south. I especially The first time I saw him, I was full of greed and curiosity around the table.
When I was young, in order to eat more delicious food, I kept playing tricks at the dinner table, which made the adults laugh and made my belly bulge unknowingly.
That night I woke up with a stomachache and rolled around on the bed. My grandma was woken up by my humming sound and hurriedly turned on the light and asked me what was wrong.
"Milk! My stomach hurts!" I cried, and my aunt immediately understood that she must have had a stomachache after eating too much for dinner.
"You little kid, if you don't listen to me, stop being greedy. Get up and go to the toilet!"
My grandma pulled me up and put a cotton jacket and trousers on me. At that time, the toilets in rural areas were dry toilets. There were a few wooden sticks in a circle, a few sacks put on them, and a hole was dug in it. Put two wooden boards on which to step on. If you are not careful, you can easily fall into the pit. It is as simple as possible.
I was terrified when I thought that the toilet was at the back of the house, but the pain in my stomach was unbearable. I gritted my teeth and put on my cotton shoes, took the old-fashioned flashlight at home and rushed to the toilet.
Behind the house are rolling mountains. The mountains are bare in winter, and the scattered branches of a few old trees add an inexplicable terrifying atmosphere to the mountains behind. Fortunately, there is a faint moonlight above my head, which allows me to barely see the location of the toilet. I was squatting on the latrine and exerting my strength when I suddenly heard the sound of chewing coming from the neighbor's yard not far away.
In the stillness of the cold night, this sound made me feel uncomfortable from the bottom of my heart, like someone scratching nails on a blackboard. My heart tightened, and I almost dropped my flashlight into a hole. I wiped my butt in a hurry and wanted to go back to the house.
When I walked to the door, I accidentally glanced at my neighbor's house. Unexpectedly, this glance almost scared me out of my mind!
Under the pale moonlight, a black figure squatted in the neighbor's yard, holding something in its hand and chewing it happily. I even heard the sound of it chewing bones. It looked up at the moon while chewing. At that moment, I saw clearly what that thing looked like.
Its face is as long as a horse, and its eyes are as round as copper bells. It keeps chewing things in its arms. Blood drips from the corners of its mouth. The black hair on its body glows coldly in the moonlight. Like an evil spirit coming out of hell.
When I saw this thing, a name came to my mind instantly: Damascus! !
What is it chewing in its mouth? Thinking of its legend, my heart almost flew out of my throat, and cold sweat suddenly broke out on my head. I subconsciously covered my mouth with force, took off my shoes gently, and stepped on the cold ground with my bare feet. Fortunately, I came out just now. He ran so fast that the door wasn't closed tightly. He pushed it open gently, climbed onto the kang with hands and feet and got into bed.
When my grandma saw me coming back, she touched my hands and found that my hands and feet were cold and shivering under the covers. I gritted my teeth as hard as I could to prevent them from chattering and softly told my grandma to go to sleep.
But I closed my eyes and heard the crunching sounds of monkeys chewing things in my ears. I thought about asking my parents to take me home at dawn. I don’t know how long I was tortured by fear before I fell asleep.
